Female Teacher Gets Beat Up At WiHi By 9th Grader

Two students got into a fight at WiHi last Wednesday. The Teacher broke up the fight and then one of the students tackled the teacher to the ground and was repeatedly punching her in the stomach. She refused to go by ambulance to the Hospital but did eventually go to the Hospital. We are told she is on leave for two weeks.

How much longer will Fredericksen continue to sweep things like this under the rug? Hopefully this Teacher is OK and recovering.

He will sweep it under the rug as long as he is the superintendent. Give him four more years and then you'll see even more of this.

Whatever happened to the good 'ole reform school where teen age thugs were taught anger management????

Anonymous said...

People need to stop pampering these out of control kids. The teacher should have gone to the hospital to begin with instead of trying to play the hero. I'm sure this kid will get away with this.

So sad, that our youth have absolutely no respect for each other, or adults. These are the same so to be adults that will be our future. Disgusting isn't it?

It is this type of behavior that keeps popping up in the news that bothers me most about our school system. Will this child be punished? arrested? Will this incident be swept under the rug and forgotten?

I would love follow up on this.

Anonymous said...

Teachers need to break up NO fights. They are educators, not referees.

Anonymous said...

Are the two students suspended, expelled, or in jail. I'd like to know.

Anonymous said...

I always tried to stay out of the way when two students were fighting, particularly two females, who can be really vicious--scratching with long nails, pulling hair, etc. I know that, as a faculty member (now retired), I should try to break up a fight, but I wasn't about to put myself in jeopardy.

Anonymous said...

When will this end? Teachers can't defend themselves. Teachers can't defent other the kids. Teachers can't suspend the kids because they will lose control of their federal funding if the absentee rate on title 1 students gets too high. This has got to end. Good students are losing valuable educational opportunities and good teachers are being beaten up! Rome is burning BOE. Your Superintendent has proven to be absolutely useless and you stand by and let him fail the children by selling the system down the river for federal dollars. The Wicomico County School system is failing the students AND the teachers. If we get an elected school board you will all be out on your asses faster than you can blink. We need to bring the education of our kids back under the control of the local parents immediately. Screw the federal money. Accountability and an end to wasteful spending is what we need.

Anonymous said...

The student should be banned from all county schools and charged with assault as an adult.

Anonymous said...

Fredericksen needs to go. The sooner the better.

Anonymous said...

Help, please help. Wicomico, your children are in real trouble. They lack discipline, and are hurting really bad because of it.

Anonymous said...

This is horrible but doesn't surprise me, the hoodlums in all the schools have absolutely no respect for anyone or anything. I hate the thought of decent kids having to share air and space with this kind of trash.

Anonymous said...

Let me tell you one thing, i dont care if these little bastards are under 18, they swing on my girlfiend, who is a teacher, i will beat the F*&* out of him and wont hersitate doing time! free health care, free food, free housing! Im sure that this punk was arrested and turned over to their up standing tax paying parents!

Anonymous said...

This is awful My prayers go uout to the teacher. Just more of the good ol' boy network in action, don't speak of it and it will go away!! How much more is going on in our schools and athe BOE they don't want us to know about? was the student even charged with assault? Or was that just swept under the rug also? There must be one heck of a skeleton closet at the BOE building! Someone needs to open it up!!

Principals Cody and daws from Pittsville elementary /middle have been covering things up in their school for years.just this year my daughter was attacked by a kid sexually.she smacked his hand told him to stop.they both got suspended for a day only.they never called the school resource officer. I had to.kid comes back to school and beats up the kids that spoke to the principals.suspended for one day again.I had to call the states attorneys office and the b.o.e to get something done about this monster that has been three years terrorizing kids in the school.he's now out of school thank god .I don't know if the school pit him out Or what.point is this is common from the b.o.e and your school administrators!

Anonymous said...

You would all be absolutely amazed at what goes on on a daily basis in our schools, not only secondary but elementary. Despite having sheriff's deputies stationed at middle and high schools, the fights occur before the deputies can get to them. The one good thing: The deputies do have arresting powers and do arrest. As so many of you have said, it's too bad for the 90-plus percentage of kids who cause no trouble at all that the few "bad eggs" can hold schools hostage.

Anonymous said...

That Cody is clueless.everyone knows Ms. Daws runs the show there.as good as the school is its really all messed up behind the scenes.just ask any teacher there and or a parent with a kid there.those poor teachers beg for things ti be done about trouble kids and nothing ever happens.

My point to this Post is as follows.

How are we the taxpayers supposed to make an EDUCATED decision as to support or not support hundreds of millions of dollars in investments into schools when WE have no clue, (through the MSM) that activities like this are going on every day.

The Superintendent does NOT report to the public and instead keeps things like this quiet, as if ALL of the schools are running like fine tuned machines.

Think about that for a while.

Anonymous said...

Do you know the teachers name?

Anonymous said...

Why should a fight in a school where a teacher is hurt be front page news? I am sure the proper procedures were taken and the students were arrested and suspended.

You can't expel the students according to the state board of education. Will only happen for drug use or a weapon.

Bash the system all you want but their hands are tied in this case. 10 days of suspension is the max that the superintendent could give in this case.

She can do better.

Joe,

This is just unbelievable and I am outraged like many people are! I would love to know just how many incidents are occurring this year alone, but of course we will never get the full picture, and even if we did, how would we know if the numbers shared by the BOE are even truthful. I know that of late, there has been quite a bit of coverage involving BOE employees and the just plain obscene behavior coming out of Long Ave., but for a teacher to be subjected to this behavior, and then to be further insulted by a trivial consequence (1 day of suspension for assault) is just ridiculous. There has to be some way to expose this so that something constructive can be done, otherwise incidents like this will get worse than they already are. If anyone has any other ideas, put them out there and maybe we can all pull together to stop this before something worse happens.

Anonymous said...

You should get some of the cops in that video to work there. Bet nobody will dare hit a teacher then.

Or give the teachers Tasers.

The answer to your question Joe:

These types of events are an accepted practice for the liberals and democrats. They have stated that it's part of growing up. It's not a big deal to have an enormous amount of crime in the school system , giving the fact that many of the kids come from poor welfare families. This is expected and forgiven , after all , they haven't had the fortune like other kids.
So, we must build them new and better schools , provide them with free lunches and breakfast. Soon we will be clothing them with school system funds and on and on.
The BOE says ,just give us more money ! That will solve all the problems.
Just do some investigation at UMES,
It's like a city of crime from the professors to the so called students , 90% paid for by us.

Anonymous said...

I am not picking on 10:22, but here you mention - "Despite having sheriff's deputies stationed at middle and high schools, the fights occur before the deputies can get to them".
How blind are we? Now having police in our schools is the norm? Isn't that a sick statement on it's own? When I grew up we didnt have police in our schools and we didn't have to be scanned for weapons. What a sick society we have built that children can't be children and now have "armed guards" in the hallways protecting them from their classmates, and parents accept this as "normal".

Anonymous said...

Why is it Fredericksen's job to inform the public?

Anonymous said...

Not only does the Superintendent not answer questions, he resents being asked them. He does something wrong or manipulates the Board in some way, gets called on it and then says he's either being micro-managed or denies having done it.

Anonymous said...

You have seen the way the HR dept. treated their employees, we have heard many times about teachers getting abused by students. And still you wonder why teachers need and want an association?

Anonymous said...

Last year the male Vice Principal at SMS was hit and knocked to the cafeteria floor by a girl who had a record of previous assaults on students. For starting the huge cafeteria fight, beating up other kids and assaulting the vice principal she was given only 5 days. That should have been an automatic expulsion. When kids and teachers know the administrators can't protect them from the wild bunch, how are they to feel safe? For this year, guess which school the Board removed the deputy from until parents, the County Council and the sheriff worked to restore the position? SMS. Good news, though, this year the Board added a deputy (at time and a half) to protect themselves at Board meetings. Unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who sat at the BOE opening meeting can tell you that frederickson stood on stage and said behavior such as this would not be tolerated and he had zero tolerance for it. Yeah right. What a lie. Teachers and other students are assaulted on a daily basis in elementary schools as well as secondary. Teachers are made to feel guilty if they involve police and even encouraged not to in many cases. It is out of control way beyond what the public knows.

Anonymous said...

I say let these hoodlums continue to pound on each other until they do themselves in. Then, and only then, if one is still functioning expel them forever.

Anonymous said...

The trouble is today that the courts will side with the kids. That's why teachers are afraid to do anything because the troublemakers will be protected. Sad isn't it? Not much hope for the future.

Anonymous said...

In one school the deputy is too busy messing with the principal which is the reason that middle school has so much trouble. But when supervisors are aware this is happening and choose to do nothing it makes resolution seem impossible. Parents must speak out. Airing your concerns here make the community aware but the state department needs to know that education is being compromised due to lack of leadership across this county.

Anonymous said...

Parents need to file charges when their kids are attacked by thugs. Teachers need to do the same. Right now there's no penalty to the school system when innocent people who are crime victims remain silent. If a school knows certain students are violent and does not remove them, parents have a great case.

Anonymous said...

You all have NO idea how bad it has gotten in our school, There is just about a fight a day at a local middle school. But it all can not be reported as the system will loose money, and the goverment will want to take over. There are too many in our schools who do not want to be there, but have to by law. So they spend as much time as possible to keep those who want to learn from such.Sorry folks, but the culture has taken over and our schools will never get any better, no matter how much money you put into it. It is done.

Anonymous said...

Maybe if the Super would let the truth be know, more parents would become involved and demand more from their kids. I know for a fact the kids causing the trouble have parents that support the kids and dare the school to do anything or their public defender will sue the BOE! It is the teachers fault their kids do not learn, why they fight, why there is gangs. That is the mentality of these people. How can you change this, when you have this kind of thinking.

My nephew gets beat on ALL THE TIME at pinehurst...apparently, nothing can be done!

MY FOOT. Remove those perps(not alleged perps) from the school. They can't behave, they're out... & yes they're special needs... which means they need a special; school just for them if they can't behave.

Anonymous said...

Well the answer is NOT to build another school!

It makes me sick to have to send my civilized child to an uncivilized school.
The one who will suffer is my kid, He will lose out on a quality education.

Your facts are right, but expulsion for middle schoolers rarely happens no matter what they do or to whom they do it. Multiple times being assigned to Choices, the Alternative School for our county, aren't always successful either.

Anonymous said...

8:00 AM
Are you saying there is a deputy at Board meetings? I haven't been to any this year, but there wasn't one last year when I went. Is this a new expense when we have no money?

Anonymous said...

If a teacher does not interfere in a fight they can be charged with neglect, and if they do interfere and someone gets hurt they can be charged with child abuse. that is why I belong to the Education Association. I need the protection from the administration and the lawsuits that we are close to every single day. If you want to know what goes on in the schools all you need to do is show up unannounced any time and see for yourself. The school cannot stop you from visiting. The more parents that get involved the more eyes we have on what is going on. The real sad thing is that most of the students from this area are very fine, intelligent young people that want to learn and do good. Unfortunatley we have a handfull of thugs and criminals that do their very best to prevent it from happening. And the thugs and criminals continue to be allowed to operate in our schools.

Anonymous said...

Can someone quote us from a teacher's handbook or some publication the requirements for trying to break up a fight? I would think sending for help and trying to control and keep safe the kids who aren't fighting would be sufficient. Why would teachers be expected to know how to break up a fight without touching one or more students in a way that could later be called child abuse to the one who got pulled off the other one?

Anonymous said...

I've said it before here on this blog and I'll say it again. Move all the wanna be thugs to Bennett Middle School, make it a lockdown facility, do NOT air condition it, and leave the nice schools to the kids who want to learn. Take all the police and let them guard the thugs; there's no need to waste teacher talent on those who have no intention to learn. When one or more of them start behaving and showing responsibility and a willingness to behave and learn, they may return to the nice school... on probation!

Two problems solved at once, the way I see it! Nobody's out on the street, the school populations are just rearranged, and there's no need to spend a gazillion dollars on another Taj Mahal! Just a few extra pushbutton locks...

Anonymous said...

I've been told that in one middle school a student told the teacher to shut the f--- up in front of the entire class. The student was referred to the office, told not to do it again and was back in the class before it ended.

Anonymous said...

DDS needs to set up shop at Pinehurst. Kids are being abused as well as teachers! Administration is aware. They choose to cover it up.

Anonymous said...

The liberal practice of placing hood kids in good schools has to end, put the hood kids behind barbed wire where they belong with dogs ready to attack them if they act up, that is the only thing they understand.

Anonymous said...

Striking a teacher should be reason for expulsion period, and I mean expulsion for the rest of the year, not for a few days. They either respect the position of the teacher or they are out the door.

Anonymous said...

Striking ANYONE should be reason for expulsion!

Anonymous said...

And a teacher allowed students to stick their middle fingers up at one another. Actually, teacher joined the students in this act.

Anonymous said...

If the students are allowed assaultive behavior in school, what are they going to do as adults in the real world? The public school system is not the military. Teachers are not compelled to die in the line of duty.

Anonymous said...

I hope this teacher files workmans comp then collects unemployment
and realizes she needs to work somewhere else.
We are not doormats

Intergration, Intergration, Intergration. Thats the problem in our society especially in schools. 9 out of 10 times these incidents are caused by blacks against blacks. Wicomico County is in desparate need of a Reform School to take these individuals out of the main stream educational system. This is not my opinion its fact and on the job experience.

Anonymous said...

Turn Bennett Middle into a Reform School. Add bars on the windows, no air condtion, no tv, military rations for food. There is a small percentage of kids in school that make it miserable for the rest. I can only imagine what happens after they quit school and are in society.

Not politically correct. We will sacrifice all children, African-American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, and their teachers to allow thugs to continue their behavior. Believe me, whatever the thugs do they will not be held accountable. We won't expel them, we don't suspend them, what else is left but making the rest put up with them. Strangely quiet is the teachers' association. Wonder why.

Union is worthless

Anonymous said...

As a Pinehurst parent, I would like some elaboration on this... Do you have any specific examples of this alleged abuse?

Anonymous said...

If we can't control the hoodlums and keep the kids and teachers safe, let the state come in. Maybe they will fix it.

Anonymous said...

Students are being yelled at, ears pulled, barricaded between gym mats, carried down the halls unclothed, plans not being implemented, kids not taken to specials because teacher can only push one wheelchair

Anonymous said...

government schools are the "arm pit" of america. they have failed us for far too long. get rid of the "dept. of ed.", the unions and bring education back to the locals. don't take anymore federal money and limit your connection with the state. keep it local as much as possible.

how much longer are you; the teacher, going to put up with this. the only reason you haven't spoken out is because of your precious union contracts. useless! you should always be on the side of "right" not compromise in order to get along and not make waves.

get a backbone and say you've had enough. if more of you do this, maybe we have a chance. the parents should do the same. sadly, most of you won't do anything. just remain in you dirty stew and complain.

this is why we and many other parents like us chose to remove our children many years ago. we knew it was bad then and now look where we are. so sad...

Anonymous said...

In general teachers' associations stand to a superintendent who treat teachers like cattle. That doesn't apply to all such associations, sadly.

DSS has been contacted many times. For some reason, most reports are unfounded. GO FIGURE!

Charging a kid in MD's juvenile justice system is a waste. They are useless, overwhelmed, liberal MD.

Bring back spanking in schools. Ms Watford used to give us "milk shakes" in school. You didn't do whatever you did again.

Wico already has a reform school, it's called alternative school.

Fine the parents for the kids activity. Charge them for their kid being out of control, unless the kid is mentally ill. The parent chooses to be absent in the child's life, make them pay for us being more involved. Maybe they will pay attention to their mess more.

Interested in details about Pinehurst. My son has physical & mental disabilities and the school is beginning to talk about sending him there. However, my child is above average intelligence & scores super high on the standardized testing. I am concerned he will not be taught there????????

If he gets Jessie Brown, he will get over above what is required. She is amazing.

I don't know first hand about Pinehurst, but from what I have been told, prior to ever reading the blog, was that IEPs will not be fully implemented and the students fight and injure the teachers. So I am assuming the students would hurt the other students too....
I would suggest to not send your child there.
