11:22 - That is so disrespectful!!! Joe Paterno is a man of dignity. He told the higher ups and they did NOTHING about it! Also, Where were the parents?
RIP JOE PA!!!!!!! YOU ARE PENN STATE!!!

btw 11:22, Did you know that just last week Joe and his wife still donated 100,000 to the school?!
He also died much sooner, due to a broken heart about what happened at the school he loved so much!!!

I wonder what part the whole "Penn State situation" played in hastening the coach's death. I've always felt that he got a bum rap, that he was one of the scapegoats in this whole sordid affair. Coach Paterno deserves our thanks and accolades for all the years he gave to the PSU football program; I hope that, whenever his name is mentioned, his contributions to the athletic program come to our minds first.

11:22 you're an idiot. Paterno had nothing to do with what happened at PSU. Should he have done more....yes, and he recently said so but your comment was ignorant and out of line.

He donated money because he knew his estate was going to get sued.

SO???

Sergeant Barbara Ester was stabbed to death by an inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Brickeys, Arkansas.

She had observed an inmate in possession of contraband pair of sneakers and entered the open barracks to confiscate them. As she approached the inmate he suddenly stabbed her twice in the stomach with a shank.

Sergeant Ester was flown to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where she succumbed to her wounds.

The inmate, who had was serving a life sentence for murder, was immediately taken into custody and transferred to the maximum security wing of the prison.

Sergeant Ester had served with the Arkansas Department of Correction for 12 years. She is survived by her husband, who also serves as an officer at the same facility.

Nothing about this death.

Paterno did NOT resign. He was fired as a scapegoat by a bunch of cowardly trustees. 12:10, you are an idiot. Yeah, he died so he didn't have to take the stand. What a moron. They wanted him gone because he was too old and they seized the first opportunity to get rid of him. He was a great man who deserved much better than this. RIP, Joe Paterno

2:17 you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about!!! Over the years the Paterno's have donated nearly 4 million dollars to the PSU library and it started LONG before any of the Sandusky actions took place. If you honestly think Joe donated the money because his estate was going to get sued you have no idea what Joe Paterno was about or what he stood for.

1. JP told his boss what he was told about the alleged abuse. That's what he should have done.
2. JP's greatest contributions were not monetary, but in his leadership and teaching PSU football teams for many years.
3. Of course, we cannot discount his generous monetary donations to the school.
4. The man got a bum rap, in my opinion. And being fired after 46 years, by telephone no less, is just plain disrespectful and ignorant.

I don't care what anyone else says, the Paterno family should not be subjected to any of the nasty comments I've seen and heard. Let them lay to rest a great man, father, husband and coach in peace and privacy. Keep your unkind remarks to yourselves. His illness and passing have nothing to do with the Sandusky mess.
