Troopers Investigate Crash Involving Bicyclist

Location: SR 9 (Lewes-Georgetown Highway) at Minos Conaway Road, Lewes, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:20 p.m.

Operators and Vehicles:

-Operator: Jerry L. Crouse, 51, Millsboro, DE
-Vehicle: 2006 International 7400 Truck

-Bicyclist: Frederick M. Starr, 63, Rehoboth, DE

Resume:
Lewes, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle crash in which a bicyclist was struck that occurred this afternoon in Lewes, DE.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. this afternoon as Frederick M. Starr, 63, was riding a bicycle on southbound Minos Conaway Road approaching the intersection of the Lewes-Georgetown Highway. As Starr reached the intersection, he attempted to cross the east bound lanes of lanes of SR 9 where he was struck by a 2006 International truck that was being operated by Larry L. Crouse, 51.

Starr was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. Jerry Crouse was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation at this time.

Vehicles are not allowed on bicycle paths. so why are bicycles allowed on vehicle paths?
