Pretty straight forward and surprising the disparities aren't greater. The upper portions and private -compared to Germany- wealth numbers represent those whose incomes are derived from hard work, creativity, and willingness to take high risks. The 80% at the bottom is represented by those that feel they're entitled to the fruits of the labors -be it money or money equivalents (food stamps, "affordable" housing discounts, more benefits, "living wages", better working conditions, free meals, etc.)but are unable to, so far, extract more from the sweat of others. The 19% in the middle are those working one - or two - jobs, dedicated to their careers and those who provide them, and make intelligent decisions in home, car, and other big ticket purchases requiring financial assistance. They are not under water on their houses or upside down on their car and have income that meets or exceeds the cost of their particular life style - without handouts.
