DSP News Release: Troopers Probe Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Location: Westbound DE Rt. 273 (Ogletown Road) west of Old Ogletown Road, Newark, DE
Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, October 15, 2011 (exact time is unknown)
Operators and Vehicles:
-Operator: 33 year old Middletown, DE man
-Vehicle: 2006 Honda CBR600

Newark, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred overnight in Newark.
According to investigators, the crash occurred as a 33 year old Middletown, DE man was traveling eastbound on DE Rt. 273 west of Old Ogletown Road in Newark, DE on a 2006 Honda CBR600 motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the road causing him to travel into a grassy area where he then struck a road sign. The operator and the motorcycle continued traveling through the grass. He was then ejected from the bike at which time his body struck a telephone pole.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Wilmington where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation. The exact time of the crash is unknown at this time. The collision was discovered by a passing motorist at approximately 5:35 a.m. this morning.
