The “Bricks” Fiasco – What Happens When You Don’t Follow the Rules

What happens when you don’t follow the rules? If you’re the city of Salisbury you get a bill for $108,000. If you’re Mayor Jim Ireton you try to figure out how to pass the blame to council members Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen, and Tim Spies.
Ireton seems to think that he can play the part of the innocent while taxpayers have to shell out their hard earned cash to cover the folly of his administration and previous council President Louise Smith. If the Daily Times has its way, he may be right. Perhaps Salisbury voters are as ignorant as Ireton and the Daily Times believe.
Who actually put city taxpayers on the hook for this fiasco? That would be Ireton and Smith.
The city entered into a contract with Homes for America without council approval. Smith signed the contract and at least one change order.
How could they do that? They claimed that the city wasn’t on the hook for any money and that they could enter into a contract without council approval. Well, we know that this wasn’t true. We need only point to the $108,000 bill to prove that little lie.
It will be interesting to see how much lipstick Ireton and the DT try to put on this pig before a check is cut.

I agree with your statement 100%. So glad you are back to put your spin on the happenings in the county and city. You always think before you write and post.

Is this in litigation? If it is then the Mayor may be correct.

Send the bill to Wilber

Send the bill to Ireton & Smith who got us here in the first place.

If he pays this bill without a fight, there should be an investigation.

If the bill's not paid, will HFA "seize" The Bricks?
That'll teach the Salisbury taxpayers a lesson!

That would be one way to get this dinosaur off our backs, 2:03. Let the HFA have it. While the building does have historical significance, the cost to rehab for nine "low income" apartments is ridiculous. Maybe the building just should be razed.
