Virginia Tax Revenue on Rise

In one of the year's biggest months for tax collections, Virginia revenues in April continued showing growth, a sign the state is slowly pulling out of its record fiscal slump.
April general fund collections last month were up by 1.5 percent over April 2010. That's the 13th month in the past 14 that revenues have shown month-over-month growth.
It also brightens prospects that state government will end the fiscal year on June 30 with a small cash cushion and not be forced into another round of budget cuts.
Taxes withheld from salaries and paychecks, which account for nearly two-thirds of all general revenues, increased 6.5 percent over last April, and taxes paid by the self-employed and investors increased about 11 percent.
