WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- New details are emerging about the dramatic raid that ended Osama bin Laden's decade on the run. A team of CIA officers and Navy SEALS killed the mastermind of the September 11th attacks in a firefight near the Pakistani capital.
Bin Laden was long believed to be hiding out in a cave. But U.S. intelligence found him in a million dollar compound, in a town full of Pakistani soldiers.
On a moonless night, Blackhawk helicopters brought the Special Operations team from an air base in Afghanistan. When the Navy SEALS trained for this mission, they were NOT told who the target was. Precision was critical.
"This is why they practice and practice and practice and train and train and train, so they know exactly what to do instinctively," said Mike Barrett, a national security expert.
As a helicopter hovered over the compound, two dozen SEALS rappelled into action.
"You tend to just actually jump out. You have a rope, grab it very quickly," said Barrett.
As the 40 minute raid transpired, the tension was obvious in the White House situation room where President Obama and other high-ranking government officials monitored its progress.

Obama persecuted and threatened to court marshall Navy Seals that gave a terrorist a fat lip--and now he is taking credit for their actions in Pakistan that led to Osama kill. The intel that led them to this was obtained by waterboarding KSM--a practice that Obama and his leftists condemned--and yet Obama is taking all of the credit for a mission that Bush put into place. WTF???
The video that they had with this story is also unavailable.
Good point 10:04 I forgot about Obama and the Navy Seal Deal...
