This week, Montgomery County approved a 5-cent levy on paper and plastic bags, becoming the first Maryland jurisdiction to institute a "bag tax." But it likely won't be the last. Already state lawmakers are laying the groundwork to expand the tax statewide.

Bag tax?
If you have more than 15 items tax?
If you talk on the cell phone while in line tax?
Just coming into the grocery store tax?
Stamp of the Devil 666 on your forehead tax?
I think they (the stores) should go back to using paper bags.
I've always hated the plastic bags, simply because of the pollution factor.
I have my own reusable bags I use when shopping to keep from using their plastic bags.
I have one that is lined on the inside specifically to be used for meats so there's no cross contamination from using my bags.
The lined one gets disenfected after each use.
There are times, however, I forget to take my bags in. This poses a problem since all stores don't have the paper bags. I've even at times gone and looked for a box to put my items in if they only have plastic bags.
those plastic bags make great trash bags for small cans
are they gonna tax plastic trash bags next? or make you reuse them too?
I am waiting for the "drive on the street tax"... I can't wait for the economy to crash more than it has just to prove to the idiots in the govt who come up with these stupid ideas, that they don't work and are that stupid lol... Come on your telling me that instead of cutting spending like the country ask, you rather keep borrowing and make up silly taxes... when people can't drive because they can't pay to ride on the street, what will be taxed next to make up for it?
God I am getting sick of this bogus bull crap... I already don't make squat as an income and can barley get to work on the gas I have, now I have to pay a tax to ride on the road...
Hey wait a minute.
Remember years ago you could take Soda Bottles back and get 2 cents to 5 cents each?
Why not plastic and paper bags?
5 cents for each bag you bring to the grocery store.
1150-There has been rumbling about a "tax per mile", in order to squeeze out more $$ from taxpayers. I believe Joe has posted a couple articles about it, but living here in DC I've heard about it often.
I live in the DC area, my local Giant offers a .05 discount for every bag you bring in and use. My other main grocer Aldi's, has a policy where they charge you for bags, but are welcome to bring in your own. The vast majority of people bring in their own bags. It's a policy I'd rather see done person by person, rather then enforced by the gov't. I do it, but I'm not forced to.
wait, i hear tax per mile for cars.
ive heard of that
lets make it tax per minute. those people sitting in traffic emit just as much stuff as me zipping down the road
How about a liars tax on politicians? All our financial problems would be solved in 6 months.
