NEWPORT NEWS — The T.R. is back in the water.
Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.'s Newport News shipyard moved the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier out of its dry dock to a shipyard pier over the weekend, ready for final testing and outfitting.
The Roosevelt, the fourth ship of the Nimitz class, arrived at the Newport News shipyard in August 2009 for its $2.43 billion midlife overhaul and nuclear refueling project.
During the project, now more than half complete, Huntington will refuel the ship's twin nuclear reactors and perform a complete restoration of the ship.

Wow! So glad to see this on SBYNEWS!
I spent 4 years stationed aboard the TR. During this time we went on 2 six month deployments to include Desert Storm, in which we dropped the most ordinance from any single unit in the war, to missions over Bosinia during the next long deployment.
I met 2 presidents while onboard, George H.W. Bush after the war, and Bill Clinton after Bosnia.
She truly is a wonderful ship and now she's fueled up for the next 25years.
If your ever lucky enough to visit one of these Nimitz class carriers, you'll see an amazing vessel and you'll be glad that you are an American because no other nation can match the might of the US Navy or the sailors who guide her thru the waters.
God Bless and God Speed!
