The Daily Times - Liberal Media Pushes Liberal Agenda

How many editions have you read The Daily Times publish information where they have touted the following agenda:

  • Public in need of more public facilities - (i.e. - Tri County Council Bldg)

  • Not enough public tax money to fund education

  • Increased taxes needed to make-up revenue shortfall

  • Budget deficiencies hamper education

  • It's as if one can almost predict precisely what will be reported before the next days DT edition. What ever happened to the traditional American values - (sweat, motivation, work + sacrifice = reward) - concepts. Seldom does the DT mention about the disparity in incomes from Maryland's counties located across the bay in comparison to the eastern shore counties. How about lack of adequate representation - after all we only have 9 elected Maryland eastern shore Delegates as opposed to 179 from across the Bay.

Where was the liberal press in reporting the disparities in representation. Maryland's eastern shore county revenues and incomes will continue to be dwarfed until such time as the collective action of Queen Anne, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester have decided they have had enough - and secede. Maybe - then we can unshackle the 'ball and chain' that has historically restrained our economies.

County Councils & Elected Officials - I hope you are listening in!

    Beezer,

What MOST people on the Eastern Shore are NOT aware of is Norm Conway's lack of VOTES on ANY topic. Salisbury News will be exposing his actual voting pattern in the near future but every one should be aware, Norm Conway simply doesn't vote.

The FACT that this man is being PAID to represent the Eastern Shore, yet most of the time he simply sits there and never votes clearly says Norm Conway Must Go!

Just wait and see how bad it is. The Shore should be outraged!

Can you show a three year trend of his voting, even a simple yes or no on voting or not voting? Maybe his record of voting counter to the Eastern Shore values and in-line with the western shore? I LOVE Norm and would be very disappointed if this summary showed he did not represent US. Thanks!!

We're working on it. I too enjoy Norm but after discovering what he's actually been up to, I believe everyone will change their minds about his representing the Eastern Shore.

Most of Norm's power comes from his chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee...this power is very real but limited given the Governor's dominance in budget matters.

Joe - if you are adding up votes, be sure to exclude all of these "garbage" votes on amendments that had no chance of passing anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if Norm missed some of those as he was in budget negotiations

Beezer - how are these examples of a liberal press? Are they pro-institution - absolutely? But consider the opposite headlines:

    - More private property converted to public

    - Education costs too much versus public tax revenue

    - Increased cuts needed to make-up revenue shortfall

    - Overstated requests hamper education

Would you agree that these headlines would be acceptable substitutes, thus representing a conservative media bias?

    anonymous 1:20,

Dear Wet Pants Liberal, "garbage" votes, eh? Well, the way I see it is, Norm is PAID to do a job. Votes YES or NO period.

The eastern shore will never be allowed to secede because most votes would come from the DC and Baltimore metro areas and they would not want to give up the tax $$ from OC.

How can people not know this about Norm Conway. I've known this about him for quite some time and last time around I did not vote for him. No one listens. I think sometimes people just say, I recognize that name so I'll vote for him and don't bother to check past voting records. Wake up people. These guys are elected to represent us, not just sit there like a bump on a pickle.

I have been waiting to hear people ideas on what services they no longer want. It is easy to say cut. What would people like to do without is the question.

    To 2:51

'Better to have TRIED and FAILED than to have never tried at all'

I say let the residents of Queen Anne, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester County determine their own future as opposed to having the decisions effecting them come from jurisdictions outside their own territorial areas - (SELF-DETERMINATION).

Then - let's put the subject to a public referendum for the ones that are going to be effected - (eastern shore counties).

Secession? Still? Really? I am 37 years old, and when I was in 8th grade in the Western Half of Maryland, our Socia Studies class was talking then about the cries from the Eastern Shore to seceede from teh remainder of the State. The general consensus then was, "OK, let 'em. Let's see how that works out."

If you think anyone on the Western half of Maryland truly cares if you seceede or not, then you know nothing about them. On a practical stance, if you seceede the overall school test scores in Maryland will go up, teen pregnancy will go down, and mean household income will go up. The only real fight will come over who controls the reveneue/responsibility for the Bay Bridge (my guess is, the West wins, and they will charge you a heck of a lot more than $2.50 to drive across.)

You hate Maryland now? Just wait until you have an entire state of just you folks. Then who will you blame when everything still sucks?

lol "lack of adequate representation". Joe, you do realize it's based on population. Why should the shore have more representatives when they have such a small population?

I've heard that "secede" talk my whole life, and many of my family friends(older folks) have been talking about it for generations. Never going to happen. The Shore(as a state) couldn't finanacially support itself. Plain and simple. It's the same ol' shore talk we'll here 50, 100+ years from now. Know-nothings rattling dull sabres. That all being said, I agree that the Shore gets the short end of the stick, due to the heavily democrat MD mainland. But it's not changing anytime soon.

    Grand Plan for Shore Secession

    1. New formation of Counties - (Anne Arundel, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Worcester) - first and foremost - make it US Corporation formation structure capital of US - similar to Delaware & Nevada's corporate formation structuring. Provide online formation, registration, renewals - (generate millions overnight).

    2. Make Salisbury-Ocean City Airport, Easton Airport - tax free zones - (similar to Ross Perot's structure in Texas). Creates massive State employment and entices businesses instead of running them off.

    3. Make Salisbury-Ocean City Airport designated reliever maintenance facility for all major airlines. I actually proposed this once before in 1995. This would create thousands of high paying jobs almost immediately.

    4. Drill-Baby-Drill for new offshore supplies of US crude. Also provide port base in Somerset County for tanker depot. Hugh employment stimulus almost immediate.

I can go on if you like.

What we are lacking on the eastern shore is TRUE GRIT in leadership and 'Ball and Chain' restraint from the Western Shore politics.

Then you will have Upper Shore vs. Lower Shore, just like it is in Delaware. Upper DE has a majority over Lower DE due to the majority of the population living there. The same would eventually happen on the Eastern Shore of MD.

Beazer - where have you been. I have been looking for a leader like you a long long time.

Please let me know if you should ever decide to run for office as you'll have my vote.

I don't believe we will never have parity here on the easternshore as we have no voice in Annapolis. My general observation has been that the western shore legislators tend to band together and keep the distribution of wealth held to their own jurisdictions.

I have also felt frustrated for years and have often conveyed my feelings to our local elected officials. Everytime I bring this up to Norm - he always responds - we have to work with those guys from across the bay - end of subject. I think we need some new blood like the young GOPs in the Federal Teaparty establishment. Maybe then we will see change.

Sounds like Beezer has some great ideas. Looks like you need to get some money behind you! Anyone with it listening?

i've said it before and i'll say it again. the eastern shore needs to secede from the rest of maryland.

Dan do us all a favor and move back to the western shore.

i think we should learn from our fearless Golf leader; I mean President. How many States are there?

10:31, don't think I'm not planning on it. I'll be sure to send you a card.

This kind of apathy on behalf of the western shore Delegates makes my blood boil.

The region from the Chesapeake Bay - east - will never get a fair shake. I agree - a secession movement is long overdue. We might suffer a bit in the short run - but in the long haul - we should reap substantial benefits.
