Lawmaker Says Race Played Role In GOP's 2010 Wins

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia is saying his party's November election losses were partly due to voter antagonism toward a black president.

Moran, a 20-year House veteran, made the remarks Tuesday to the Arab television network Alhurra (ahl-HUR'-ruh) after President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

Referring to widespread Republican wins in congressional and state contests, Moran said "a lot of people in this country, I believe, don't want to be governed by an African-American." He said that was particularly true of a liberal president
.
As some groups criticized the remarks, Moran's spokeswoman Anne Hughes issued a statement defending him, saying it's no secret the U.S. "continues to struggle with racial equality." She says Moran thinks it's better to discuss than to ignore such issues.

"racial equality" please, that crap went out the window years ago if it existed at all. Wight Black Green or Purple going back to the days that Christ walked the earth, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THOSE THAT HAVE AGAINST THOSE THAT DON'T HAVE. Ask Al Sharpten, without this social misbehavior people like him and the Dukes of the world would not have the monies they have. Get over it Moron, oops Moran, Moran said "a lot of people in this country, I believe, don't want to be governed by an African-American." we (evil whites)voted Obama in as our President. Stop being a hater Moran.

I believe race did play an issue, but not like this states. Instead, race played a role because the millions of blacks that voted for Obama did not vote at all in any of the elections since the Presidential election.

Ron is right but blacks are not the only ones that voted for Obama because of his skin color. A 30 year old white female that works in the mental health/addictions field for the state of MD told me she voted for Obama just to be a part of making history, wow.

It shows how weak his political draw is in terms of effecting the larger democratic party. Had he been able to parlay the black vote into one that turned out in the mid-term elections then the dems would be much stronger.

This probably means that whites running as republicans for elections in 2016 with large black districts had better be able to get their message across to those blacks (and others) that will turn out just to vote for Obama and/or history.
