WIcomico Judicial Nominations

Hey Joe, just thought you would like to know that the local judicial nominating committee, finished up their interviews yesterday and they are only submitting two names to the Govenor, when traditionaly there are three or more sent up.  Looks like the fix is in.  The names sent up are the current Circuit Ct. Master Leah Seaton and M.J. Caldwell.  Funny part is that Seaton is a Democrat and Caldwell is a Republican and we know how this will work out.  Looks like the panel wanted Seaton only, because the other two females and male were all Democrats and this way Seaton has no competition.  Typical politics

There's an executive order from January 2008 that says they are required to send three...should be interesting to see what happens.

God help us all if Leah Seaton is chosen.

Trust the governor on this one. I'll remind everyone that O'Malley appointed a republican (Judge Price) in somerset county over democrat SA (Kristy Hickman). The governor knew Hickman had baggage and he did the right thing in appointing the republican. He should do the same in this case. In reality, this should always be about qualifications, not politics.

It's always so funny to see judicial appointments of attorneys who have never stepped a foot in a court room for criminal or traffic cases. In this case Mr. Caldwell has.

So many of the current Judges had no court room experience at all. Maybe that's why Maryland's Court System is so liberal and ridden with problems. Just look at the Chief Judge for the entire state, Judge Bell. Appointed by Governor Glendenning because of his race and party affiliation.

Judge Bell is a fine legal scholar and a fine judge, regardless of party or race. Shame on you.

I don't know who Seaton is but I wish them the best of luck!!!!!!!!!!

Leah Seaton is currently a Master (a step below a judge) for family law matters. She doesn't know or follow court rules, and she doesn't even sit on the judge's bench like she is supposed to.

Caldwell may have a chance if O'Malley actually investigates the nominees.

Judge Bell may have all the legal knowledge in the world, but when he uses his position to legislate from the bench, then he is guilty of abuse of power and and should resign or retire. His extreme liberal views and policies are partly to blame for the rampant crime in our area.

The shame is all on you. If you think he is a fine judge, you are uninformed or a close friend or maybe looking to be appointed ?

how is seaton gonna handle adult offenders when she cant control a juvenile court?

With regards,to qualifications, O'malley would be a fool to appoint Caldwell over Seaton. Seaton's qualifications far exceed those of Caldwell.

With regards to politics he did right be appointing judge Price as she was the most qualified. If one assumes that the commission's purpose for only sending these two applicants to O'Malley is because they want Seaton appointed, one should acknowledge that this speaks volumes to the respect that they have for her ability.

11:37 FYI Kristy Hickman did not even get past the committee nominations and so therefore was never in the running!! She was pretty upset about it, too!! The committee made the best choices and Paula Price was definitely the best choice for Judge.
