Pedestrian Dies In Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating an early morning fatal motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian died in Wilmington.
 
The incident occurred as Philip Arkoh was operating a DART bus on a maintenance run on southbound S. Market Street at approximately 2:05 a.m. this morning. As the bus approached the area of Rogers Road, a male pedestrian, later identified as a 29 year old New Castle man, ran in front of the bus in an eastbound direction from the parking lot of the Gold Club. The left front of the bus struck the victim, knocking him to the ground. The victim was then run over by the bus which stopped with the victim still underneath of it. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the medical examiners office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Philip Arkoh, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was not injured. Alcohol was not considered a factor on the part of Philip Arkoh. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor on the part of the victim. The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
