Is City Politics Too Big For The Local Media To Handle?

With every single local MSM outlet downsizing there is less Staff to do ANY Investigative Reporting. All anyone has to do is look back into Salisbury's political history and you start to question just about everything.

The Old Mall TIF. Sassafras Meadows. The Bricks. The Waste Water Treatment Plant. The $14,000,000.00 Fire House. Then there's the old Station 16. A $900,000.00 Fire Boat. The list goes on and on.

Have you seen any progress on the Old Mall property? How's that "growth pays for growth" working at Sassafras Meadows? Since when does a municipality get into the renovation and rental business, especially in such a horrible economy with The Bricks project? Then there's the $84,000,000.00 Waste Water Treatment Plant with a $1,000,000.00 liability clause and now an additional $60,000,000.00 completion fee. A new Fire Station 16 was built for $14,000,000.00. A FIRE HOUSE. You know, a pole building/garage for Fire Equipment. Funny, it seems to me everyone else around us can't seem to spend more than $2,000,000.00 on their new Fire Stations. Now we have the old Fire Station 16 being sold for $100,000.00, you know that whole story. Then there's a $900,000.00 Fire Boat. Look at the agenda for tonight. Unless I am missing something, the only thing on there is the DNR grant acceptance for the fire boat, not the award of bid for the fire boat itself.  As I recall, council reached consensus not to accept the DNR grant until AFTER the bid for the boat was awarded because it doesn't make sense to accept a grant for something you haven't officially decided to get.

Is someone lining their pockets? Is it just me who believes there's some serious problems with those leading the City of Salisbury. I could sit here all day going over each one of the topics I've mentioned here and the questionable details in each one. However, what good will it do. Even with the track record some of these people have, you keep voting for them.

Perhaps the MSM simply knows not to waste their time.

There seems to be a common denominator for most of this out of control spending. Gordy. He is already back stabbing the new fire chief, promoted both the new firehouse and fire boat, charging high gasoline prices and now faces a major EEOC investigation. When will we figure out he is a big part of the problem?

His gas prices are the same as the other gas stations aren't they? This is big oil charging the gas prices not a local gas station owner.

Joe,

Just out of curriousity what would the city be doing if they decided to keep the old fire house? Would it not be what you are talking about in sentence two of paragraph 3 here?

Just playing a litle devils advocate, I still do not condone what is going on in this city but it seems to me that if they keep the fire house they would need to do just that (renovation and rental) to create a positive income? Just a thought.

To the commentor above, Gordy is what Gordy is and whats right is right and wrong is wrong but my friend the problems in this city run much deeper than him. Making personal attacks on his buiness will do you nor anyone else any good not to mention the fact that he has several very busy gas staions around town (don't nock it just becuase it's not you making that money). Those problems start with the people who elect these officials. How about we start electing sensible - conservative representaion for Salsibury rather than the liberal spending folks that have blinders on now. Has anyone ever heard of spending the money this city spent on the waste water plant for an UNPROVEN technology?!? I have some ocean front property in Ohio to sell you - by the way there are no pictures available... Right.

Why did they need a DNR grant, if hey got a homeland security grant. Something stinks about all of this and it's not the sewer plant.

Say what you want about Gordy back stabbing the new chief. The new chief isn't a real chief and he is to stupid to allow this to happen. He is just a token who wants to have a title so his little boy will think he is a big shot and to fulfill his ego.

You can blame this stupidity on the Mayor and the 5 members on the city council who hired this guy with minimal experience as fire chief. Even the 2 decent members of the city council could have vote no but they supported him!

The City would be lucky to have Mr Gordy as the Fire Chief. Then his decisions would be up front and formal. He is only trying to do what is right for the City and get us prepared for events which are unimaginable. Getting prepared for unanticipated events is the job of a real leader. Mr Gordy would and should be that leader.
