NEWARK, Del. — Trailing by double-digits in most polls, Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell went on the offensive Wednesday, attacking Democrat Chris Coons as a career politician with Marxist views who would raise taxes and rubber-stamp Democratic policies.
Coons, meanwhile, during a nationally televised debate portrayed O'Donnell as an extremist more interested in clever sound bites than offering solutions to the problems confronting the nation.
O'Donnell, a tea party favorite, has drawn attention for her comments years ago that she dabbled in witchcraft as a teenager and opposed masturbation in a crusade against premarital sex. She frequently sought Wednesday to distance herself from her past views, softening her rhetoric on issues such as homosexuality and evolution.
"We're moving past that; were talking about the issues," O'Donnell said when asked by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer why she had opened a recent television ad by declaring "I'm not a witch."

I watched part of this debate and I thought O'Donnell did well. Coons kept getting on my nerves when he would say "There's too much to get into about that". I found it irritating. I thought Blitzer was rude to her by cutting her off more often than Coons and not letting her finish more frequently. Coons skirted around the tax increase issue too. Overall I think she edged Coons out.
Vote O'Donnell
Christine O'Donnell got the job done...She will get the votes from our house...You go girl!!!
10:09, not a huge Coons fan but he said that because ALOT of what she spouted was garbage when she went on attack. It's the same playbook that many politicians use; throw out so much crap that the opponent gets mired down in factchecking and never actually gets to explain their platform.
I was on the fence now I'm strongly for O'donnell!
Delaware needs a man to lead us ! Coons !
O'Donnell is another Palin. Hypes up a crowd but doesn't have an ounce of substance. No wonder she runs away from everyone except Fox News reporters.
This "debate" was anything but. Coons at least had specifics about his positions. O'Donnell had little to offer of substance. Every Delawarean who wants a joke for a Senator should vote O'Donnell. At least they will get air time on SNL.
I would like to know where they get their poll information from. I have asked every person that I have come into contact with in Delaware if they have been polled(and my family is huge spreading from Dover on down) and noone has polled them or anyone they know. Could it be that U of D is being polled? You have nothing but a bunch of highly educated democrats there with no real hands on life skills. Everyone I come into contact with except for three people I have been in contact with says as far as they are concerned O'Donnell is in. I think the democrats are painting false poll numbers through the democrat media.
Coons is the winner. Even O'Donnell knows that.
Delaware voters might just be ignorant. They have no understanding of chairmanships or senate commitee appointments, nor do they understand the gravity of the election. To make a point, they have taken power from those of us that will not tolerate the drift toward socialism. Good job, Teeeeee party idiots.
Coons was made to look like a buffoon..O'Donnell had to fend off a 3 against 1 constant attack and did so I thought very well and won me over.
Delaware, I thought you were smarter than this. You're going to let the press and the establishment convince you to elect a tax & spend socialist instead of a common-sense "every-woman". Our government is supposed to be by the people, not by the politicians.
