Dr. Laura Schlessinger Ending Radio Show

'I want to regain my First Amendment rights,' she tells Larry King

Dr. Laura Schlessinger says she's shutting down her 30-year-old syndicated radio program at the end of the year so she can get her "First Amendment rights" back.

Her announcement on "Larry King Live" comes just a week after she repeatedly used the N-word while taking a call on the air from a black woman who wanted to discuss her interracial marriage.

She told King, "My contract is up for my radio show at the end of the year and I've made the decision not to do radio anymore."

"The reason is I want to regain my First Amendment rights," she told King, according to E! Online. "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that."

Isnt that the truth?

If she attacked white people would anything have been said, NO!

I am so sick of us baby sitting a bunch of lazy give me everything I deserve it people.

We as a country have lowered our standards for a few people in everything.

Want to know why school system is failing, cause we lower our standards to kids who either cant learn, dont want ot learn and yes "Should be left behind" cause they dont want to be there.

Years ago, if you did not pass, you did not pass. If you did not go you did not pass. Now its you will pass it does not matter how dumb we make schools all we are doing is making dumb kids.

Other countries are psasing us in education, cause you either pass or work at McDonalds.

I HATE LIBERALS...

she wants to speak and think without offending someone? this entire world would be quiet if that were the case. you will offend someone at any time for any reason. it happens, people are fickle and generally stupid. best solution to this situation is ALWAYS say what you mean and allow others to do the same. dont like it, dont talk to that person anymore.

White people don't have freedom of speech .

10:06 I don't think that she meant that she wanted to speak and think and not offend anyone....she says THAT by not being on the radio she will be able to do just exactly that - and not have to worry about sponsors, etc.

Typical of Dr. Laura, she did not answer the caller's question. Instead she used the caller's dilemma to spew her own (troubling) views. She does not care about people, only herself. Her "professional" advice? Don't be so sensitive, because "Black guys say it all the time." As a Jewish woman, would she accept anti-semitic slurs from gentile in-laws??

I can't believe that someone in broadcasting does not understand "free speech." The First Amendment prohibits GOVERNMENT from censoring speech; it does mean you won't get criticized or suffer the consequences of what you say.

As for her blame game--For someone who is always preaching "personal responsibility," she should take responsibility for her own actions.

She vented her frustration and the hypocrisy that surrounds the word . The guilt trip is about over !

don imus got fired, radio station lost sponsers for using a slur.
they can call each other the "N" word but God forebid if someone else uses it.
oh by the way....i am a cracker...

What an hiliarious and self serving excuse. She did not lose her first amendment rights. In fact, for thirty years she practiced those rights to the hilt. She said exactly what she felt and there were consequences to her comments. The first amendment does not say you can spout out any comment you want and people will just shake there heads yes. Please. What she wants to do is take away everyone else's first amendment rights so they cannot argue against her comments.

If these are your views of black people, I would say you are more racist than Dr. Laura ever was.

As I've previously stated to others, those white people who regularly use the N-word do so with nothing but hate, malice, and fear (don't think this was the case with Dr. Laura). This is clearly not the context of its use among blacks. So cut the naive act.

The other key question is, do you WANT to call a black person the N-word? You probably have regular meetings with 10:13 by the burning cross.

oh come on, ive listened to her show, the day in question and pretty much every day on my was home from work. i heard the infamous call on the day it happened and i agree that she was rude and callous and abrasive. HOWEVER, she is rude, callous and abrasive to everyone she talks to. so in my opinion, she is annoying and a pain but the callers surely listen to her program and should have a pretty good idea how she is going to behave. and if they ask her opinion they should expect her to give it.

im no fan of dr. laura however, she did not refer to the caller or anyone else as being "the n word", she just used the word, period.

The bottom line is black people are weak if they are bothered by this sort of thing !

2:50,

If you think that black people are at all "weak" for standing up for their right to not be victims of hateful rhetoric, then I feel sorry for you.

4:38,
Your the one allowing yourself to become a victim it's a state of mind .

Strong people don't bitch and complain over words they just ignore it because it doesn't have meaning unless you give it meaning by reacting to it.

You guys ranted against AG Holder for saying we're "a nation of cowards" for not having an open discussion on race. Now you rush to defend this woman who repeatedly used the n-word strictly to prove her point that we are afraid to have an open discussion on race.

8:19 What position are you taking you seem confused .

9:24 Just want to point out how so many of the conservatives are FOS. As far as Laura, I don't think there was anything racist in her comments at all but keep in mind I also made the 12:26 comment
