2010 Fruitland 11/12 Major League

Joe,

I had great day in Berlin today with a great bunch of kids. I’ve been coaching for 7 years now and it just keeps getting more enjoyable every game. I thought these kids from Fruitland deserved a little recognition and figured I’d give SbyNews a shout. They went into today’s tournament in Berlin seeded 4th and won their games in class fashion.

Congrats boys! This team mixed in their allstars while the other teams participated with their tournament players only.
West Salisbury also made a great showing in these tournaments...seeding #1 in this weekend's Berlin tournament. AND won first place in the recent Fruitland tournament and second place in the recent Delmar tournament.
It was a job well done by ALL teams!!

What's your point? What are you trying to say?

leave it to some parent from the west side to sour the story. coming from a team who comes stacked with 18 players on their roster, shows pitiful sportsmanship on the field and in the stands (not all, but many). there were all-stars on all teams. berlin had 2 teams and 1 was their 11A roster alone. all you had to do was look at 3 maybe 4 of the jerseys on the west team to know they were allstars too.... get your facts straight 8:26. quit belly aching and remember its all about the kids.

west had ONE allstar that barely played get YOUR facts straight. let's count your allstars in your own picture 4 maybe 5 and most that showed up for the SECOND day of play only and even had one participate in the homerun derby to win. it's about the kids? then let the kids that played on that team since the beginning of torunament play and not substitute with allstars when youre not doing so well. poor sportsmanship didnt get one of the west coaches thrown out of the game on saturday like the fruitland coach did for his poor behavior and attitude. and NO im not a west parent

Ouch! If 10:36 has his facts correct then 10:13 probably should have stayed quiet about the whole thing - except the part about it's all about the kids having fun.

Seems there is a little bit of facts mismanagement here on both ends. The team that is pictured is made up of A and B members. The only players that weren't there on Saturday were 2 B level players. The addition of these 2 players was approved by the tournament committee. What 10:36 has negated to include in their post was that the West Team won against this Fruitland team the day before. The Fruitland team on Saturday had 3 more superior players present that day. No one on the Fruitland team that is pictured, that played on any All-Star team, was not present Saturday. 10:36 makes it sound as if the Fruitland team brought in All Stars to win on Sunday. That is simply not the case, and would not be tolerated by Berlin Tournament officials.

Furthermore, the original comment above states that "the other teams participated with their tournament players only". That is simply not true either. The comment at 10:36 states different and admits to having atleast 1 allstar player on West. So which is it? It is also true that 1 of the Berlin teams was made entirely of 11A Allstars. Either way, West beat the same Fruitland team on Saturday, then lost to the same team plus 2 B level players, minus 2 A level players on Sunday.

Not sure why 8:26 has to attack the credibility of a group of kids who played extremely well together and overcame the odds to win.

I am from Berlin, and can attest to much truth in the context of 10:13's post.

Perhaps if 8:26 had taken the time to send Joe a picture of their winning team in previous tournaments from Delmar and Fruitland, those kids would have been given some recognition and he/she would not have felt the need to "sour the story" as 10:13 put it.

For some reason I don't believe this is true. Why would an "allstar" waste an entire weekend if he didn't get to play. Why would a parent/s allow their child to go out of town for an entire weekend just to sit on the bench?

I am a coach and a parent and I know this doesn't happen. Keep one thing in mind it is about the kids and not just your kid. Quit baffling us with BS!!
