City Of Fruitland Newsletter

CITY HALL

Two Ordinance Revisions are under Consideration: Both the Sign Ordinance (#164) and the Dog Ordinance (#186) are currently under review and revisions are likely to be presented at the next City Council meeting.

FEMA Reimbursement: The City has applied for reimbursement of over $12,000 worth of expenses for the February Snow Storm.

Business Outreach Plan Update: I have begun and will continue to meet with business owners and managers informally to promote the City and create a sense of involvement in the business community from our local government. In addition, I will be available to speak to any Fruitland organization about City operations. Please contact Linda Powell at 410-548-2809 to check on scheduling an appearance.

Technology Upgrades Being Studied: The City is looking for new ways to effectively service our citizens and we are meeting in the next few weeks with vendors to look at installing a Credit/Debit Card system at City Hall and possibly on the internet. We hope to have this in place by the fall.

Fruitland Chamber of Commerce: The next meeting of the Board will be Wednesday, August 4, 2010. The meeting will be held at the Lucky Stars restaurant, starting at 12:00 noon.

POLICE

The Department is continuing preparation for the “National Night Out” block party scheduled for Tuesday, August 3.    For any questions about the event or to inquire about volunteering contact OFC Nick McLeod.

PUBLIC UTILITIES

Staff have had a busy week repairing defective water services at 617 S. Camden Avenue, 205 N. Fruitland Boulevard, 410 Clyde Avenue and 168 Emily Drive.

Several new water meters were installed within the Cedar Commons subdivision on N. Brown Street.

The Fruitland Community Center Summer Camp (children, staff and volunteers) went on a field trip this week which consisted of a tour of our Wastewater Treatment Plant. A copy of the Fruitland Community Center’s newsletter will accompany this week’s city correspondence.

OTHER

Sincere condolences are extended to the family and friends of longtime Fruitland resident Florence Pusey Pruitt-Allen who passed away earlier this week at the Genesis Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Pruitt-Allen worked for many years with the United States Postal Service in Fruitland, eventually attaining the position of Postmaster until her retirement. She also served on the Fruitland City Council from 1968 to 1972. Florence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Due to a “Heat Advisory”, St. John's United Methodist Church Carnival, scheduled for Saturday, July 24, has been canceled. Information pertaining to the rescheduling of this event will be forwarded at a later date.

On This Day In History

On July 23, 1996, at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, the U.S. women’s gymnastics team wins its first-ever team gold. The 1996 U.S. women’s team, nicknamed the "Mag 7" or "magnificent seven," was made up of seven immensely talented teenaged girls: Amanda Borden, Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Jaycie Phelps and Kerri Strug.

The city's had the equipment to take credit card payments for three years now, but it's never been hooked up and used, in spite of numerous complaints from taxpayers. Why not? And now you're wasting more time and money to do it again? Is the old, never-used stuff obsolete now?
Public Utilities was working, but what was Public Works doing? Riding around in their trucks all day?

Public Utilities in Fruitland--means everyone has to pay and pay and pay

the City is raising the rates for water once again

many individuals have rentals to people on fixed incomes ..how can that be passed on to them..when they have so little to begin with?

seems like..water in Fruitland costs nearly what Pepsi products cost off the shelf only thing is Pepsi has better water

I noticed this evening my water pressure in my kitchen is low. Does this mean they will subtract this from my bill? As for trying to pay over the phone, ha! I've asked several times about this. It sure would make things easier and faster. Oh wait, this if Fruitland.

RIP Ms. Florence. I will always miss seeing you at the post office.
