Salisbury Fire Department To Celebrate National EMS Week

The Salisbury Fire Department announces that the week of May 16-22, 2010 is EMS Week, and this year’s national theme is “Anytime. Anywhere. We’ll Be There.” Members of the department will be conducting several events during EMS Week 2010, with the highlight being an Open House and presentation of the Department’s EMS Provider of the Year Award on Wednesday, May 19th. The ceremony will begin at 10am, at Station 16 at 325 Cypress Street, Salisbury. The open house will also include blood pressure screanings, equipment displays, and station tours; it is free and open to the public.

Members of the Salisbury Fire Department work diligently, year round, to provide the highest quality care and services available to our citizens. In 2009, the Salisbury Fire Department responded to a total of 11,303 calls for service, with 8,452 of those responses requesting emergency medical services. Currently, the Salisbury Fire Department staffs three Advanced Life Support (ALS Paramedic) Ambulances and an ALS Paramedic Engine 24 hours a day. Two additional ambulances can supplement this when needed. So when you see the “Fire Engine” at a neighbor’s home, it may not be for just a fire emergency anymore. Our Firefighter/Paramedics are highly trained in multiple disciplines, maintaining 72 hours of continuing education every two years. Our Firefighter/EMT-Bs are the finest and most competent BLS providers you’ll meet, particularly due in part to our ever increasing call volume and their commitment to training.

The Salisbury Fire Department will be scheduling talks throughout the week at local schools, churches, organizations and assisted living facilities. We will wrap up EMS Week on Saturday with two free CPR classes being offered to the public. Pre-registration for the free, layperson CPR classes is required; to sign-up, please contact Lt. Rob Frampton at 410-548-3120.

Acting Salisbury Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes invites the public and media to our events for EMS Week 2010. If you have any questions regarding EMS Week, please contact FF/NREMT-P Melissa Brown at 410-548-3120.

A Tradition of Excellence in Public Safety

If Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes was so concerned about the citizens that pay his salary then why wasn't he at the city council meeting to accept the proclamation?

If Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes was so concerned about the citizens that pay his salary then why didn't he send someone involved in EMS to accept the proclamation?

If Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes was so concerned about the citizens that pay his salary then why didn't he send more than 1 person to accept the invitation?

If Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes was so concerned about the citizens that pay his salary then why did he send someone who hates EMS to accept the proclamation?

Currently they staff 3 ambulances but with personel being fired (3) positons not being filled and Fire Chief Ireton wanting to cut 100000 from the extra time budget and furloughs they may have to go back to 2 ambulances staffed and call in the county volley ambulances to aid the city.

I agree, this is all a result of poor leadership in the fire department and now a weak Mare!!

One of these days you will call 911 for a heart attack and you won't have an ambulance available. Never fear though you will get a brand new fire truck in Salisbury. Thanks Hoppes and Gordo!!

Mr. Hammer said...

Fact - Gordy broke Salisbury Fire Department no other person or the poor economy just Mr. Gordy and still spending. When its gone it gone just remember we been telling you.

How long have comments been put on here about Bill Gordy? Has one thing been done about it? Will anything ever be done about it? I seriously doubt it in my life time. One day when every last penny is gone Gordy will leave maybe.

I know for a fact that there are not 3 ambulances staffed 24/7 with a paramedic on board! And neither is the "ALS Engine"!! This is against the city charter and needs to be looked into. There have been numerous cases in which there has only been EMT-B's on board 1 of those 3 ambulances that are supposed to be staffed with a paramedic and EMT-B. The city charter will show that this is violating the charter. There needs to be an investigation done on this.

1126 is stirring stuff because Jimmy has always supported ems. He was a good medic when he rode the ambiance and he often didn't make friends with some of the dinosaur ffers who were there because he stood up for Jerry's Kids and said the ffers should better themselves instead of bashing the paramedics. Whoever you are, you don't know Jimmy. The chief should've gone himself.

Another Happy-O-Gram from SFD.

BFD.

Nothing against the rank n file.

Wasn't this one of the positions, a public info officer, put in for a raise?

What a dumb moron!! There is nothing in the charter that says the City of Salisbury has to provide a paramedic on any of it's fire trucks or ambulances.

Another dumb comment by a know it all FARMIN!!

Hey Anon 5:46 if Jimmy really supported EMS then why did he give up his CRT? Why didn't he become a paramedic?

WTF is Jerry's Kids?

Hoppes'fat a$$ should have gone himself!

Why would they fire anyone when they are alredy short people and gettung cut extra time money? Who got fired? Who got arrested?

Gladwell gave up his CRT only after Brezler came along and said people were either EMTBs or EMTPs. Brezler wouldn't recognize CRTs and when the fire dpt came up short on staffing, they tried to make him ride as the ALS provider. He told them that was wrong and told Brezler to shove it. If you knew anything about him you would know that. He just got done telling the city council that the department needed to recognize that level and that it would benefit the city. So if your going to question, get all your facts. I've worked for Jimmy and his heart is in the right place. He has often said he hated making that decision but right was right and wrong was wrong.

LMFAO

Told Chief Brezler to "SHOVE IT?" Get real. Motor Mouth wouldn't have a job today if he told Chief Brezler to shove it. You people are all talk.

Sorry Anon 1:40 PM, I have to agree with 11:47 PM. If Mr. Jimmy really cared about the people and his "heart was in it" then he wouldn't have given up his CRT. You get in that profession for the people and not the money so go blow your smoke up someone elses arse!!

Hoppes and Bragg just allowed a firefighter to go back to work on light duty after surgery on his neck. He was put in maintenance and suppy along with another fire officer. He complains about being bored and plays games on the computer all day when he is not out back smoking cigaretttes with Dru Bragg. He is going to be on light duty for 6 months to a year. This was not a work related injury and he should not be given light duty for 6 months to a year. This is a waste of good money paying this guy to just show up. He should just use his sick time. Oh wait, that can't happen, he doesn't have any sick time because he abused all of it.
