Driver # 1/ Veh. #1: Shannon Malone age 28 of Hebron, Md
2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer
Minor Injuries
Driver 2/ Veh. #2 Stephen Collier age 45 of Salisbury, Md
2002 International dump truck
Owned by the State of Maryland Department of Transportation
LOCATION: E/B Salisbury Bypass between Naylor Mill Road and Northwood Drive Salisbury, Wicomico Co. MD.
BRIEF RESUME:
On the above date and time, Troopers from the Salisbury Barrack were dispatched to the Salisbury Bypass prior to Northwood Drive for a two vehicle collision. Investigation revealed that a Maryland State Highway Administration Dump truck was stopped in lane 1 of the Salisbury Bypass, with emergency lights activated as well as a towed arrow board activated. The dump truck was stopped there to close the lane for impending roadway work. The driver of vehicle one stated that she saw the dump truck, however she thought it was moving. The driver then collided with the dump truck, disabling it and rupturing its fuel tanks. Vehicle one then spun out of control and struck the guard rail before coming to rest in the roadway. The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours while Salisbury Fire Department Haz-Mat crews cleaned up the spilled diesel fuel and removed the disabled vehicles. Traffic on the east bound Salisbury Bypass was re-directed onto Rt. 50 business prior to the entrance of the bypass. Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department assisted with road closures and traffic control.

I drive the by-pass everyday, I bet she was on the cell phone.
They had a reason to take the haz-mat truck out for a spin this time.
probably texting- check her phone
hey- ladder truck was there too...
This is a good friend of mine- don't make assumptions about people until you have the entire story-It makes you look very un-educated.
bet her twitter account looked a lil something like this -
getting in my car - 10:49am
waiting for this damn light! - 10:53am
just got news that bob from american idol is going to be voted off! - 10:57am

i imagine it continues...but well leave it at that
Oh good grief people...stop making assumptions about what someone was doing before they crashed. Really, I wish I was as perfect as you are. Then I could stand in my glass house and judge all the people around me. AHHHHHH get over yourselves!! Getting off my soapbox now..thankyou!
How the heck can you not tell a big dump truck is stopped? I mean if you start to come up on it, wouldn't you slow down instead of ramming right into it? Besides, common sense tells you that if a truck has emergency lights on (no matter if they're red/ blue fire/police/EMT or yellow for road crews, etc) you need to slow down. I agree, check her cell phone!
Guess you have nothing better to do than make accusations!
I agree! Well said...
What if it wasn't a cell phone? What if she took her eyes off the road for a second to change the radio station? Haven't we all done that?
She is a friend of mine too..I am glad to hear that everyone involved is ok! like annon 1:29 said guess you have nothing better to do than make accusations!
Like I said I dive it everyday the speed limt and 8 out of 10 that speed pass me are fooling around with phones that not an accusation.
Maybe it was a Toyota.
2 words = female driver
People don't slow down for road crews. That is why their jobs are ranked higher on the list of jobs with serious injury or fatalities than that of even police officers. This fact is not recognized enough. Please slow down for road crews, they have family to return home to also.
Do tell then! What, exactly, was she doing just before her judgment was so grossly impaired?
Thank you 1:26!!!
To 1:02 & 1:13 - Doesn't matter what she was doing, she admitted she saw the truck. There is NO WAY you can be coming up on a vehicle and not tell that they are not moving as fast as you are!!
No, no one is perfect, but come on!
And the big flashing arrow, means move into the other lane!!! Good thing she probably hit the crash cushion, or more than likely you wouldn't be hearing her excuses for hitting the truck!
I won't make assumptions, but cheers to 4:08 pm for bringing up the number of road workers who get creamed. It's real sad.
I won't make assumptions either, but check her cell phone!
I'm not "assuming" she was on the phone, I'm "betting" she was!
Just yesterday on my way home from work driving up through the north end of town on Rt. 13, there was a young girl (20's) not only on the phone but she was holding the phone up at the top of the steering wheel with both hands and doing what appeared to be texting! She was only doing 30 mph and holding up traffic but more importantly she was putting EVERYONE's lives including hers in danger!
Get off the damn phones! Your call and your text is NOT that important! You do not need to be THAT accessible at ALL times.
Some people, and from what I see on the roads, MOST people have gotten just plain STUPID with their driving and cell phones!
HANG UP AND DRIVE!!! or go home and talk on the phone, take your pick!
I think the state truck stopped on purpose , so they could finally justify that haz-mat truck.
At anon 9:43...I love how people who complain and bicker such as you did saying you would bet she was on her phone happen to have another experience with the same situation later on in the day to use as an example. Such a coincidence that you would see someone like the girl on your way home to prove your point here.
I love how everyone knows what happened, and not one of these comments are from people who were in the moving vehicle with passengers that she avoided, or in her vehicle.
get a life, and stop judging others. Maybe it is time to look in the mirror.
