West Side Collector – Much Ado About Nothing

Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt Today’s Daily Times op-ed chastising Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt for delaying the opening of the new West Side Collector Road is truly much ado about nothing.  As someone who seldom hesitates to criticize Pollitt, I believe that running an editorial on this issue is little more than a waste of ink.  The guy tried to do the right thing AND the public isn’t really being harmed by his action (or inaction).

The road is in Prettyman’s district.  She worked hard for its construction.  Pollitt thought that it would be appropriate for Prettyman to be present at its official opening.

Wicomico County Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman Yes, it would be nice to have the road open.  Yes, councilwoman Stevie Prettyman (R-2) never requested that Pollitt delay the opening because she was out of town.  Yes, Pollitt should probably open the road for use and wait for Prettyman to return for the “official” opening.

However, opening the road from US 50 to Brick Kiln Road isn’t going to relieve much congestion from Nanticoke Road.  If it was actually going to provide some relief, both Levin Dashiell and Brick Kiln Roads would be saddled with far more traffic than either road was intended to carry.

I am confident that Wicomico citizens living down Nanticoke Road will be pleased with the COMPLETION of the West Side Collector.  However, to criticize Pollitt (or Prettyman) on this matter simply does not pass muster.

They need to just open it so people can zoom down that new road to dead end at Brick Kiln. They'll find out soon enough they are going around their ass to get to their elbow. At least until the road is completed.

I think Mr. Pollitt was trying to do the right thing by including Prettyman. That's just the kind of guy he is.

What I don't get is all the fuss about it. Why the Times felt they had to do an "opinion" on this is beyond my common sense. Was it to make Pollitt look bad? Was it to make Prettyman look bad? The only thing it accomplished was the Daily Times looks bad.

Not the correct thread here folks, but looks like the IRS will be hiring soon since under the Gigantic Gistapo Bill they have been mandated to become the New Health care enforcers, Yippy!!!!

I think just the first phase is complete. The road was originally intended to tie into Crooked Oak at its end. As far as I know this is still the long term goal.

Do you realize that everything the Daily Times does, you think is a waste of ink. Are you buying their ink for them? Their editor page is their opinion, just as this blog is your opinion. So we get it now and have for the past few years that the DT is a thorn in your side. You complaining daily about the Daily Times is little more than a waste of your time.

That editorial is no worse that the article in today's Daily Slime about the criticism (by Comegys and Smith, mainly) of the City's snow removal action -- especially going after some owners who did not clear the sidewalk after ample warning.

The Bassett bunch avoids real journalism because it takes time and talent that they lack, so instead rely on anonymous comments ("grapevine") and bombast about matters that are minor or often trivial.

Grow up, please!

When the Daily Times folds, who will publish its obituary?

Am I crazy, or did someone once tell me that she was Stevie Michaels the DJ on 100KHI years ago?

The Daily Slime sucks. Sorry. That is the worst exscuse for a news paper I have ever seen. The paper the kids at Parkside puts out is better and more informative. Maybe the D/Ts lol that funny D/Ts. Try being a real news source instead of a political puppets for losing candidates.

The road to nowhere

Big deal ! A new road to the dump.
The county dosen't own the land to
go the rest of the way. ASK RICK
what thats going to cost?

They have already begun cutting the road in, thru to Levin Dashiell Road which is Phase 2. Last I heard they had not purchased the property from Levin Dashiell to Crooked Oak to complete Phase 3. That may have changed since I last spoke to anyone at the county level about it.

if you guy's definition of "hot" is how Stevie looks in person, then you are dumber in reality than you sound on this blogsite.

Hey Anonymous 12:43... Jesus, man.

Hey, did anyone but me notice Pollitt's tie? It's the same yellow tie that Chief Webster used to wear (all the time). Do you think the Mayor put these on eBay after the chief left like what happened with the ex Baltimore Mayor?

6:59pm...hot or not. It doesn't matter to me what Stevie looks like.
She has common sense when it comes to representing us on the council. I like her. And, by the way...I have seen her in person and she is cute.

the daliy times is out of touch with the current times.

joe if you got you classifieds up to date I think you would make the daliy times obsolete

Boy that Stevie is one hot babe for her age!

you got to be kidding me. Yes the road should be open. Stevie is in Fla on vacation and everyone should suffer because a council woman is on vacation. Thanks Daily Times for showing how ridiculous this is. Open the road and then have your dog and pony show when she comes back from her fun in the sun...give me a break!
