They used to say this about mail delivery: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
But it looks like the U.S. Postal Service wants to add "except on Saturdays" to that old saying.
On Monday the USPS will share its survival plan. Word is officials plan to ask Congress for permission to shorten its work week and to change its retiree health benefits.

if it means they will stop raising the cost of postage, i'm more than happy to not receive mail in saturdays. 1/2 the time it gets there after 12 noon anyway so by then its too late to take any checks you might get to the bank. Monday - Friday is fine.
Don't they have a fantastic business plan - raise rates to where competitors are more affordable and reduce services that are already spotty (how many of us picked up our DT from the box next to the mailbox to find the mail wouldn't be delivered after the snow)? Maybe a more competitive salary structure, better service and more consumer responsiveness could get better results.
The mailperson gets to my house (Parsonsburg) between 4pm - 6pm. In the winter by that time it's dark/dusk so she can't see if the flag is up.......so over half the time when the flag has been up, still up next morning. I end up grabbing it out of the box and putting in the mailbox at work!

If you have a mailbox at work, why don't you simply do that all the time?

The last time I had snow--I didn't have mail.
Truth is, the USPS is run horribly. That's why the Postmaster was able to grant himself a SIX figure salary increase(I believe in 2009). The main reasons businesses use other carriers(DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc) is those businesses run on sundays. Eliminating another day of service in this now 24 hour global world we live in is exactly the wrong thing to do.
