Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Press Releases

Incident: Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute
Date of Incident: 7 January 2010
Location: Lee Street, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Gregory D. Snead, 39, Fruitland, MD

Narrative: On 7 January 2010 at 9:13 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Gregory Snead of Fruitland MD. During the encounter, a WCSO drug K9 scanned Snead’s vehicle for the presence of the odor of illegal drugs. After the K9 alerted to that odor, a deputy began to search both Snead and his vehicle. During the search, a substantial sized baggie fell from inside Snead’s shorts. Inside the baggie was what the deputy recognized as marijuana. Based on the amount of marijuana seized, it appeared destined for distribution by Snead.

The deputy transported Snead to the Central Booking Unit post arrest where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Snead in the Detention Center in lieu of $60,000.00 bond.

Yep, Delmar boys could have had this bust if they had been the ones doing speed enforcement out on Rt. 13!
They complain they don't have any money but they don't patrol Rt. 13 much anymore at all.
Go slow down the traffic and make some money while you're at it boys!
No quotas needed - just the desire to save lives!

Is "substantial sized" the new buzzphrase?
If they find somebody with a tiny bag, are they going to call it "insubstantial sized"?

Everytime i see a police report like this, i wonder if the dogs really alerted of a smell. I question it because I've been in a situation where i was pulled over and the cop insisted that he could smell marijuana. Not possible i told him. But he insisted of a search and found nothing. It just stole 1 hour of my time. And the embarrassment i had to go through while everybody drove by looking at me. I guess thats norm for someone young.

Educate yourself on how accurate these dogs are. Their noses are like our eyes. As long as the handler, and department has good training, police dogs are on. They do not lie, and have no preconcieved notions about people in cars. In a lot of ways, they are better than people.

@12:45 so what you are saying, is that they couldnt train a dog to give a false alert. "they do not lie" wouldnt that depend on who and how they were trained to begin with.

I mean, if i was a cop. I would probably do the same. the whole "if you aint doing nothing wrong then you dont have nothing to worry about" would work becuase what do they got to lose if the car comes up empty?

How can you question what police are doing when they find evidence of a crime. If you are against the police and what they are doing you are criminal who has been caught or a criminal who will be caught.

Wonder if these cases will be nol prosse, PBJ or stet. It has to be one of those three.

@1145 same thing happened to me. Its all a crock. If they don't like the look of you they try and search you. Just remember when you step out your car to lock your doors. The dog can search around the exterior of the car, because its technically not a search. You leave your doors unlocked they will have the dog all throughout your car.

@4:15pm "How can you question what police are doing.." With what you just said, you've profiled me into a criminal. But by going through what you just wrote. I would say that you are one that believes every word that comes out of a cops mouth. See, the news only reports what the cops find. They don't report the things they don't. For example..look at my earlier post @11:45 and someone else's @6:08. Those experiences allow me to question! Shaaazam! i'm on a roll

You are both idiots, and couldn't be cops. Wouldn't make it.
You need integrity.
Of cours police dogs are trained to lie. That's how they certify, to look at somebody, and make stuff up about them. Common sense!

Once again, dogs don't care what you look like. They are looking for their target odor, only.
And 348, if cops were really crooked, they wouldn't need a dog at all. They would just pull you over, handcuff you, plant evidence, beat you, and take you to jail. Thank goodness this does not happen.
Stop supporting criminals. If want drugs to be legal, then work on changing the laws. Don't hate those who enforce them.

if you guys to time to read the comments...we arent talking about the dog caring about what we look like. We are talking about the cop, and how he decides to go about bringing the dog to the scene.

@11:21 obviously you believe that if someone were to speak up about the corruption going on around here, you simply feel that they must support drugs and criminals.

but you know....some day it might happen to you. And believe me, when it does...you feel like you cant trust nobody. Its a really helpless feeling. Because the word of a cop is valued in court higher than that of a regular citizen. And get this! you haven't done anything wrong! But nobody believes you...you strongly proven that on this comment forum.

Well ear to the streets if you dont put your ass in that position then you wont have to worry about the k9 dog alerting on the car.

If these bastards are out here running dope then they need to get whats coming to them.

I am a citizen and I have never had a police officer accuse me of anything. It just amazes me that people can make excuses for crime. Im not saying every police officer is right all of the time but if you have had this happen to you then you need to bring it to the thier bosses attention. But for you to bash every officer and say they search without a reason is just ignorant and criminal minded.

1159 why dont you tell your "story". Please we like to here it.

My Story. It was a Saturday night about 9:00pm. I was at a stop light by the hospital. I went to turn left onto rt13. As im driving, i noticed police lights behind me. I pulled over. The cop came to my window and asked for identification. He went to his car. He came back and started to ask why my car smelled like marijuana. I told him that, that wasn’t possible. He said i didn’t know what i was talking about. He called in for a second cop. I was asked to step out of the car. Im hand cuffed and placed to sit on the side of the road. He starts going through my car. By then, the 2nd cop shows with the dog. They circle the dog around my car. The dog started barking as he reached my passenger seat. The cop searched and found nothing. After the fustration of finding nothing, they began to do a search on me that involved patting my privates down. They found nothing. I told the cops that i dont smoke marijuana, which i dont. They didnt seem to happy and starting ripping my car apart. Well, after placing all my car paneling back and not finding anything. They uncuffed me and let me go. So, to let you all know, i'm a full time worker. I have a career, not a job. I am young, and i look even younger. I dont support criminals and or drugs. But to be honest, please tell me how i wasnt profiled in that situation. I bet 7/10 times they end up finding something doing that bullshit. But it isnt very fun when you are being harassed and havent done anything wrong. @8:46 just because it hasnt happened to you yet, doesnt mean it still cant.

So you guys are saying that you are ok with giving up your freedom. Some of the people on this site are so stupid and blind to what really goes on around here that its not even that funny anymore. Whats the word for these kind of people....oh its denial. And its very hard to reason with those type of people.

Last thing, I support removing the drug dealers and criminals off the streets. But there is a right way to go about it. They dont have to embarrass the innocent.

Bull*@$%* if an officer smells drugs they dont call for a dog they just search.
