WCDC Refuses To Take In Prisoner

The Salisbury Police Department arrested a gentleman this past weekend who had been trespassing. Once they got to the scene and arrested the individual they also learned that he was intoxicated.

Once they processed him and brought him to the WCDC, the Detention Center refused to accept the prisoner and told the SPD they had to take him back until he was sober.

It must be nice for the WCDC to pick and choose who they will or won't accept. I wonder if Filet Mignon is now on their dinner menu as well?

I don't see a problem with this. Put the person in a holding cell then take him to a more permanent residence.

Thats BS. So I can see it now. The drunken fights at the bars this summer. There will be plenty of arrested drunken college kids and I guess SPD will have to baby sit until they sober up. Just take them somewhere else.

What is going on with the now abandoned former DRILL Academy? Have you seen the DRILL Academy lately??? The lights are on all night, the grass has grown up. The place was built as a minimum security prison at a cost of $3M. Maybe the County can reopen the DRILL Academy and start housing miniumum security prisoners there.

This was probably soom idiotic rule that was set in place under the Devenyns administration. It might change now under new leadership if brough to the attention of the right people.

the old drill academy is now the work release for the detention center

Not anymore. It was for a short time, but hasn't been used to house work release for a long, long time. I drive to the County's transfer station once a week on Fooks Road and can't help but look over at the DRILL Academy just sitting there. A few weeks ago I detoured to the building just to take a look. There is absolutely nothing going on over there and looks like nothing has been going on for some time.

I can see it now, the next great grand idea from the admin at the jail will be that if someone who is arrested for a crime won't be accepted. So what if someone gets arrested for a fourth or fifth DWI and is legally intoxicated and the cop takes him to jail? What if Leggs would have been intoxicated? Isn't this just the jail's idea not to do there job some more? Dealing with prisoners and drunkards IS their job!!! Slackers!

Doesnt WCDC take in DUI offenders? What is the difference?

but they will accept a man who rapes & murders children. awesome.

This is ridiculous!

I would think that this is SOP. First of all, they would have to be sober to know what they are charged with. And if you have ever been to a local bar you would know that drunks cause problems.

So keep them in a holding cell until they can be properly charged and transported.

Let's worry about more important things shall we?

12:53-Ok, so the next time you have to call the cops and they don't respond immediately, remember that comment! The cops will be too busy babysitting a drunk for 6-12 hours. And then you can also pay his ot!

Only half ther facts..A person who is not "healthy enough" can be refused. Do not forget the inmate who died in Worchester County few years ago of alchol poisoning. I respect the judgement of the Officers in Booking.

There are not enough tax dollars to pay for enough CO's to babysit every drunk who gets arrested. It is a liability issue. The intoxicated inmate would need to be held in a solitary cell that they probably would not need if they were sober. The solitary cells serve a purpose and need to be utilized for that purpose, not for baysitting drunks.

SPD or other LE agency can sit them in a holding cell until they sober up for trasport. The desk jockey's can observe through direct visual or camera. problem solved unless everyone ones to cough up more taxes to allow for extra CO's to manage these folks.

3:20-That's not the Police's job-that's yours, now step up to the plate and actually do it. You stand and sit around enough, lazy ass

they took me in when i was drunk

God I am so tired of stupid people. Do you people even attempt to think before you start bitching? Someone will be in the police station whether or not a drunk is in it or not. They have video cameras to monitor areas in said station. Would you rather wdc 'babysit' the drunks? And what ot would be necessary genius? You should sue the school board. They have failed you.

Anonymous said...

5:23-actually contrary to what you think you know, other than dispatchers, there are no cops in the station. seems to me that you have a lawsuit against the school board yourself. And FYI, the jail has medical personel available and they ACTUALLY have C/O's for that job! Knitwit. THAT IS THEIR JOBS! TO BABYSIT drunkards, criminals etc...That is not the Police responsibility. BUT...just remember that when someone is assaulting you and no one responds immediately because they are jammed up watching (and doing the C/O's job) a prisoner.
You really should get a good attorney to sue the school board, dipshit.

The Sheriff should take that place over and put Deputies in there to supervise the criminal employees and then I bet they would go in.

Anonymous said...

just like i said, someone is in the station whether a drunk is in there or not. your lack of education, originality, and imagination is typical. You sound like a member of the spd trying to use this as an excuse for your lazy asses. now go do what you do best chicken little.

Anonymous said...

so you're saying that the dispatchers should watch the prisoners? I recommend you watch them, since you have the education of a five year old

Man,Otis would have been pissed if Andy refused to lodge him in Mayberrys drunk tank lol

The reason is the new Acting Warden,George Kaloroumakis. He is a very strict,by the book man,and is usually right in how he rules.I worked with Mr.Kaloroumakis a good while and he always used good judgement when he was Assistant Warden at E.C.I.He's much like Sherriff Mike Lewis, will back his men, and you can believe he was right or it would never have happened. Also I believe the Salisbury P.D.has holding cells.

Most local depts are very small, and have few people working the late shifts. These cops are ALL out patrolling at night, under normal circumstances. The only exceptions are the MSP, SPD and OCPD. The rest do not have enough people to answer calls, let alone be a guard also.

bullcrap

Anonymous said...

That must mean a 5 year old has more education than you then.

10:34-nice comeback. got anything better than that?

Anonymous said...

What will happen is officers knowing they have to baby sit intoxicated subjects until sober will stop making these type of arrests. If I was still a cop I would be considering this. If I know I have to sit around a whole shift waiting for some axxhole drunk to sober up while I could be out there making a better arrest then the drunk gets let go. We all know that if a few of these occur every shift and a major crime happens and some of the officers are baby sitting the first thing all will say is what were they doing, how come they are not on the streets. You can't leave an intoxicated subject alone so you will be holding up good cops from doing there jobs. Detention centers job is for babysitting and they should be doing it.

Hey 10:26, many time there are 4 Deputies total, including the supervisor working at the Sheriff's Department, along with 4 total Troopers working the entire county. MSP is required to have a supervisor sit at the desk, The Sheriff and other departments do not. Don't speak about what you no nothing about.
I am sorry that you don't like working as a gaurd, I wouldn't want to work at a jail either.

11:53 PM

yeah but he wouldn't post it

Anonymous said...

Hey 10:26,

back at ya.
you people must think they have to stand there and hold his hand or something. there are certain protocols to follow to accept custody. get over it

Anonymous said...

3:28-just another person not knowing crap about crap. until you do the job, shut your pie hole. or maybe I can do that for you lard ass.

This is just another example of what is wrong with our county. The cops and detention center personnel arguing over who does less. One group rides around in circles and stops to eat donuts and the other walks in circles in a hallway. Absolutely amazing!

Anonymous said...

Then you must be the one who spins in circles at your computer desk and writes about Officers. At least they use enough energy to eat a donut. Thats absolutly amazing.

The Wicomico County Central Booking refused to take a prisoner last week because he was high. The cops had to take him to PRMC and babysit him for six hours. If this is new policy, the new warden should explain his actions. If not, some Officers may need to be looked into.

This whole situation has nothing to do with the correctional officers at Central booking or the Police Officers-Deputies for that matter. It has to do with the upper management at WCDC and the fact that they are either clueless or they are in one of their constant power trips,"My house my rules" type stuff.
Most of WCDC Central Booking staff is perfectly capable to handle any inmate or situation, they have been doing it for years without direct supervision.
Some people at the top having to justify their overgross paychecks just walk around looking to discover problems that do not exist so they can come up with a "Solution".
