OCPD INVESTIGATING SEXUAL ABUSE ALLEGATIONS

During the spring of 2009, the Ocean City Police Department received a complaint of
sexual abuse of a minor. The alleged incidents were to have taken place in Ocean City, Maryland between 1977 and 1982 and involved a former priest. At the time of the alleged abuse, the victim, whose name is not being released, was a minor/child.

As a result of an on-going investigation, OCPD investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Michael Lowell Barnes, 64-years-old, of Haywood, North Carolina. Barnes has been charged with one count of Child Abuse, one Count of Sexual Abuse, Sexual Abuse Course of Conduct, four counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Offense and four counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Offense.

OCPD detectives, in cooperation with the Maggie Valley Police Department, North
Carolina, located and arrested Barnes. Barnes is being held in a North Carolina County Jail on $400,000 bond and is awaiting extradition to Worcester County, Maryland.

This is an ongoing investigation, in which no additional information is being released. The charging documents are available upon request from the District Court of Maryland, Ocean City.

I am in favor for limitations on charges like this. We hear all these charges 10, 20 and 30 years later. No proof, no evidence and no exame. The (victim) had WELL enought of time. When the (victim) got to the age of an adult, that is when the charges were set. This is complete BS. I am in favor for catching and destroying child molesters but, this sounds hanky. And the states att prosicuting should have told the OCPD that!

32 years later is ridiculous!I empathize with molestation victims but charges seem pretty suspect coming out so much later. If there was no possible finincial settlement would some of these claims dry up?Statute of limitations is a bit excessive here

Probably lying to try to get money out of the church. So he's finally dealing with it after 30 years? Yeah, right, it never happened. Damned scam artist!
