Studies suggest demographic targeted by legislation isn’t paying attention
LOS ANGELES - Karen Cordova, a 17-year-old high school student and part-time supermarket cashier, admits she sometimes texts friends while driving home from work late at night, lonely and bored.
The Arizona teenager knows it's illegal in Phoenix and dangerous. She once almost drifted into oncoming traffic while looking at her phone.
But would a nationwide ban stop Cordova and her friends from texting in their cars? No way, she said.

Stupid laws should be ignored!

It is not a stupid law. What it doesn't do is go far enough. ALL cell phone usage while driving should be outlawed!
In fact, I am all for the person who comes up with a device that will kill ALL cell phone signals while the vehicle in in gear!
THAT is what needs to be done!
As far as those who wish to keep talking and texting while driving, you need to pray I'm not the one you hit!!
texting laws are silly. we already had laws on the books to deal with hazardous driving. why make more "specific" laws when we already have them.

I agree texting while driving is dangerous but it is a stupid law. There is no way for cops to enforce it.

You are blaming poor driving on texting.
If it weren't texting it would be changing radio stations, or choosing ipod selections, applying makeup, eating whatever.
This law is stupid, plain and simple!

i would say im probably an EXCELLENT driver. i do things like eat while driving. Not often tho. I talk on my cell phone. I can do that stuff while driving because even if im slightly distracted im still better then most drivers on the road. BUT texting is different. in order to text you have to take your eyes off the road quite a bit. it is dangerous. but the only way i see it being enforcable is if u actually get into an accident and they check your phone records. id like to see them prove in court i was texting. i could be checking the weather. i could be reading sbynews on my phone while driving.. all these things are not illegal. i could be reading a text. is that illegal? i still text but its even more dangerous cuz im looking behind me now for cops.
ok this can go both ways.i have seen people texting on the phone while driving and they are dangerous because they dont pay attention they run stop signs and red lights and rear end people.on the other hand i know a couple people who can text a whole paragraph without even looking at their phone.so the way i see it is if it causes that particular driver to have an accident or commit a moving violation then they should be ticketed for it.if you can text and drive at the same time without being distracted or endangering other motorists then you should be left alone.its the same way with seat belts thats a personal choice of mine if people dont want to wear them oh well theyre in their own vehicle and old enough to make their own decisions.
It's not really a tough issue. If you do it, you will die. Now I don't have a problem with that. You probably shouldn't be in the gene pool anyway. Besides, thats future business for me.
