Hey Joe,
I was driving on Rt.13 at the Rt. 50 overpass at about 10:30 am today, there was a funeral procession with approx. 8 police cars (State,County & Salisbury)with lights flashing and police cars with lights flashing blocking traffic. Do you or your readers know who passed on?

So, at the time of the previous request for $150K, why didn't Comegys say that it was IN ADDITION to the overtime money already budgeted. Was it because he didn't know about the existing money? Because he didn't read his script carefully enough or ask questions when it was handed to him?

Good show, Joe. I'd like to give the Mayor's crime prevention plan a shot. I would hope that the new coordinator's plans include utilizing county and state assets more, at least until the new police chief gets it together AND the SPD manning problems are overcome.

anonymous 11:21, I respectfully disagree. You see, Mr. Ireton is about bigger government. I would prefer he hire a PROFESSIONAL, especially one who is prepared to step in and curb crime. The bonus package for the new Chief would be several years ahead of him/her to relax and enjoy their job after they achieve curbing the crime.

Hiring others out there to direct the new Chief as to what to do is a joke. I can assure you that if they got someone in there like Mike Lewis he'd tell them where to blow it up their.............

Besides, Jim wants to well more than douoble this person's salary. Jim is reminding me of Rick Pollitt and all the shadows he needs to do his job.

Joe, it's my understanding that Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance has issued a ruling that says all exterior painting can wait until 15 April 2010.
You're right about the rain, and NSCC is aware.

As for your loose windows, rope caulk can help.

JT, grow up and realize not one of your childish comments will get posted here.

The difference in "doubling" this guy's salary is, he'll be doubling his work. I don't think you understand the job. I understand it's to tell police what to do. I think it's to take non-critical police tasks and put it in a civilian's hands so those officers can go bust heads.

People get all panty twisted over a $20,000 part-time job while Comegys shot the police raises and additional officers on shiny fire engines that sit decorating the Fire Palace.

joe not only does salisbury need more police officers, they need to keep the officers they already have. Continuing to pay inadequately, will keep the revolving door of Salisbury Police Department turning

I liked the show today. I think eventually it would be nice if you did a daily newscast that was only 5-10minutes long. Just like national politics, so much goes on that I'm not aware of until you bring it up.

People don't remember how much the Tilghman administration spent on legal fees and how many times they raised the attorney's budget.
The old mall's fees, which include the city attorney writing the zoning regs TWICE and unsuccessfully trying to support the first writing in court, and the TIF funding legal stuff was well over $300,000. The legal fees for the WWTP even before the new system was found to be a loser were more than they'd ever been. The lawsuit with Chief Dykes, which was Barrie's first big law expense was something like $70,000.
Need I go on?

You're right. Ireton inherited these problems, and it shouldn't be forgotten, not for one instant while he's mayor.

anonymous 11:37, OK, let's talk about your point for a second.

I personally believe there needs to be a stepping stone for Police Officers to GRADUATE to.

What I mean by this is, I do NOT believe 21 year old Cops belong making unbelievable salaries that compare to the VETERANS on the MSP & WCSO. That's what Salisbury now has, a bunch of young and inexperienced Police Officers.

When they can prove themselves and openings become available elsewhere, let them apply and move up. However, for now, things should stay just as they are and those of you who disagree should use your real name to PROVE you are not one of these Officers currently on the SPD attempting to make it LOOK as if the Citizens should believe they want their taxes going up even more to provide those salaries.

Being a Police Officer is kind of like being a Zookeeper. Now stick with me for a minute and allow me to explain that. Police Officers, (lie Zoookeepers) do their job because it's something they LOVE to do. They're NOT in it for the money. Eventually, (if they're good at it) that will come in time. However, this is a very specialty job and in order to be really good at it and be rewarded, it shouldn't happen right up front. They need to prove and then earn that income. Much of that also has to do with leadership and that's something I have been fighting in Salisbury for many years. I felt Jim Rapp was a horrible leader, as well as Chief Webster. You don't hire young people/friends just because you can control them and that's what I felt Webster and Rapp were doing.

Let's see what Mayor Ireton does this week as far as hiring a new Chief and see where things head at that point. In the mean time, (again, this is just my personal opinion)the salaries are just fine as they are.

I watched for 15 mins today and received more informative local REAL news than I have from WBOC in the last 6 months. Why cant WBOC report local news? All I hear about is weather, and all the bad stuff everywhere else but here. Crime is high here and no one in the news media is reporting the real situation like Joe. Just like we need in the local govt, outsiders who genuinely care. The local govt ran good ol boys have been in office for years and this is the outcome. Crime, no jobs, drugs, poverty and gangs. Great job locals!!!

Loved your show today! If Code and Compliance can FORCE you to paint, how far can they legally go with it? Paint the windows pink and purple! At least you painted them! Can they go so far as to pick the colors? Then, when the weather is better, you can do it properly.

I think we need to put as you said Joe, "good money, after good money".
Allow the county to step in, or Lewis should just step in anyway if Webster says no....

Joe, don't worry about JT. Once the government is finally bankrupted, he won't be getting his welfare check from the gov't to pay for the electricity to run his computer. Imagine him at the homeless shelter begging them to let him blog on the church computer.

Well put , an easy way to look at this is simple. If I need help , I will ask my neighbor . If he needs help he will ask me. That's the American way. If webster needed help , which he does , he should ask for help. Look at the resources he hasn't used , all the surounding area police depts. Amen

Great show. I like the fact that, like that you devote as much time as is needed to get the facts out. I have a problem with the way news is delivered on tv in 20 seconds without any depth. Instead of increasing my interest in a news story, it reduces it to zero. Too many days come and go with bull stories from the tv news that are just filler -- I don't care if twenty people got injured in a bus crash in Boise. I do care what's going on in my own community and want to know how or if I can be involved in making it better. Your news is closer to what I'm looking for than anything else around.

we are also county and state taxpayers and if the citizens want more help from the state police and sheriff's department, so be it

The show was good and is getting better with each passing week. Now if you could only get the I, my, me out of your thinking the show would be a blockbuster.
