Tomorrow, Monday the 7th of December is an important day. It marks a premier opportunity given by the Salisbury City government for open discourse on crime between government and taxpayers, discourse without the frequent sound of a gavel or the Great Disappearing Legal Pads of the Tilghman administration, where citizen complaints and suggestions were recorded and most often never again saw the light of day.
Citizens and interested parties are invited to meet at the GOB steps (125 North Division Street) for a 5:00 rally, then by Mayor Ireton at 5:30 to the 3rd floor of the GOB to air their concerns, and give their suggestions and comments.
Please, let's make this a great turnout and a constructive event!

That sure doesnt help create any jobs. We need construction to come back as well as some manufacturing jobs to return to the area.
Good places mean good people come to live there, businesses open, jobs are created, tax base widens, municipal services increase. Tilghman and crew wanted all of those things to happen, but left the "good" part out, denying that the city crumbling around them had any problems whatsoever. It didn't work. Now's the time to tell ourselves and the world what a rat's nest we have here and try to clean it up. No more secrets.

To create jobs, industry has to be encouraged to come here. They look at the available job force (needs of which for them might be of varying educations, experience, etc.), the housing availability, the schools, the infrastructure (sewers, water, roads, etc.), the tax base, and the crime rate.
If we don't fess up to the fact that many of our indicators are in the toilet and then do something about it, we're NEVER going to get any decent industry to invest in its future here or in us as a city.
Moving a major manufacturer here is a big deal and all of the indicators have to be right or they'll go somewhere where they are.Construction will come back once the economy's moving. In Salisbury's case, the economy isn't going anywhere until more and better jobs are created. Better place, more industry; more industry, more jobs; more jobs, more people; more people, more construction; more construction, more jobs; more jobs, more money; more money, more taxes; more taxes, better services; better services, better chances for more industry.
So, what are we going to do? Whine or tackle a problem?
Maybe if Rev. James Bailey worked more in his community the crime level would drop !

To tell you truth, there are times when I really dont think I care anymore. Then I think about the fact that Ive been here my entire life and dont think I will ever leave. I think about my kids and grand kids and how it affects their lives, and then I realize that I still care. The crime has got to be dealt with, thats a given. That has to happen first I think. We have a governing body that is a joke, nothing and I mean nothing is going to get better until that changes. Fix those two things and I quess were on our way back. Its a heck of a start anyway.
None of the bad cities or counties are on the website. Prince Georges...I am sure it is worst than Salisbury.
I'm signed up to ring the bell at that time frame tomorrow, but if someone could bring up a talking point tomorrow for me I would appreciate it.
My point is that the WBI is probably way more than 5 years old, and Chief Webster has purposely left the City of Salisbury without that resource. This is I think one of the loudest statements he could make as to how he doesn't care about our crime rate.
Fire him for that.

Salisbury deserves another chance, it has earned the right to be what it once was. Sometimes the care I feel for my home consumes me, sometimes.

Frankly. I'm tired of all the talk about the crime in this area. All police departments need to put their heads together and start arresting these law breakers. Forget the "C". There's plenty of snitches out there. Use them and do your job. Otherwise, "The People" know how to protect themselves, family and property.
why should the police do there job when the courts are going to let criminal be back out on the street before the officer gets done the paper work. need courts to actually punish to max for the crime. no good time. no other head games to reduce sentenses. need to get back to street justice but that only works in PG county. cameras and law suits have destroyed the cops ablity to be effective.

Forget all those statistics quoted above. Take a look at Table 8 of the FBI's 2008 UCR data.
In short, Salisbury is ONLY behind Baltimore in violent crime. All other cities in Maryland, no matter what their population, have a lower crime rate than we do.
Where does Ocean City appear on the lists?
There are two basic reasons that crime is so bad in Wicomico. The Dept of Juvenile Service is first. There is absolutely no justice there. They even took the word "Justice" out of there title because they did not want to seem too harsh on those poor kids. The kid who robs you, is a victim in their eyes. He does not need to be punished. He should be let go to his parent, and a letter will be placed in his file. Wow, what a deterrent! It is OK to punish bad kids.
The other reason sits in District Court every day. Police are put on trial there every day, and criminals are set free. You ever wonder why so many cases are dropped in the paper each week? The cops, states attorney, and defense attorneys know this well. There is no justice in that room, unless the judge is in a bad mood. Judges need term limits now.
