Delaware Roads

We hear the Maryland roads are not as clear as the Delaware roads.
Lower taxes, better conditions. Go Figure!

Just a thought on rating highway clean-ups in the lower 3 counties of MD. Over the many years the following rating as I experience is Worchester County is number 1,Somerset County #2,and u guessed it Wicomico is last.

I love my state!!!

This doesnt surprise me in the slightest. More of the same ol low standard for public services here.

11:05 I agree with your cleanup opinion as well from my business traveling. I would add that one and two are very close but the difference between number two and number three is large

That is why delaware is the first state.

Driving around today I was telling my wife I look for wicomico schools to be delayed or cancelled due to the roads. Bennet hasnt even started cleaning their lots yet

Thats pretty much how things work around here Reconciled. I'm from the midwest where a snowstorm like this would be cleared an hour or so after it stopped snowing, secondary roads included. One of the most populated counties on the shore and we still have the standard of services from 50 years ago. My workplace functions the same way as the county. They'll wait till someone falls and then spread salt and plow the snow covered walkways. I'm sorry but this area is pretty backwards.

Will not be any delays schools out for the holidays.

I'm home in St Marys county right now where we got a good 2 feet of snow. The main roads are clear for the most part , and very drivable. Neighborhoods can be driven in and out of if you have a truck or SUV, but they are not as good as the main roads.

Around here, the county puts the local farmers on contract to clear side streets. And inevitably, someone in each neighborhood has a tractor with a plow, so we aren't all terribly snowed in, despite the deluge of snow we got

I found it interesting to see a county snow plow last night sitting a field in my neighborhood, not salting or plowing. Seems like a waste to drive those big vehicles around for nothing.

Wicomico County has already closed school on Monday. No official word on Tuesday yet.

Wrong 256PM! Schools are scheduled to be open Monday and Tuesday here in Wicomico County and yes, I look for some sort of delay. The back roads in our county are horrific. Looks like not a speck of salt was ever put down!

Wicomico kids are in school tomorrow and Tuesday. They are not already out for the holidays.

the roads in wicomico county were horrible ,but as soon as i got south of fruitland into somerset county the roads were clear and safe!

I would love to see a salt truck in my neighborhood. I have a very suspicious feeling that Mr. Pollitt told the salt trucks to stay off the back roads. And when we go to complain, he'll claim it's because of the revenue cap, and I'm sure they'll be some dummies out there that will agree.

WRONG 4:48 Schools are closed Monday.

Does the county even use salt on the roads? In the 20 years we have been here I dont recall them ever using any salt. The state roads get salt but I thought the county only used sand in some places.

WICOMICO schools were SCHEDULED to be open both Monday and Tuesday. (May be different elsewhere.)

Monday is NOW canceled.

Tuesday remains to be seen.

Wednesday is the first day of break.

Hope that clears up the argument.

Why do public services suck so bad here? Not once did I see a single salt/snow plow down my road and I live on a backroad to Ocean City. Just like I've said before 2 inches shuts this place down. We got just that and everything is closing early and the roads still suck tonight. If this was anywhere else someones job would be on the line. Gotta love the accountability on the shore.

I'm starting to realize that the MD side of the shore is a pathetic sh*thole.

Maryland roads are just fine.

WCBOE just want a day off.

Wicomico County Roads keep salt on inventory....So yes....they do have salt.

6:18 roads south of Fruitland are clear because there wasn't nearly as much snow as Fruitland northwards. I work in Ocean city and live in Fruitland, and the roads in OC were just fine Friday and mostly passable on Saturday night. But I stayed in OC last night (I work at a Hotel) because I knew inland and north got worse snowfall than OC. it has little to do with worcester or Somerset having better roads crews and more to do with the lighter snowfall.

Ha ha, that's funny 11:15pm: you know Wicomico County Landfill had tires and diesel fuel on inventory...So no...didn't mean they had tires and diesel fuel!!

Well...it's Monday morning adn I have yet to see a Wicomico County plow or salt truck. The mailman did come through on Saturday...of course he brought bills.

Does DELDOT salt and plow all DE roads or just main roads and their counties are responsible for the rest.

The problem with MD is that the State does the state roads, the counties plow their back roads, and the cities are responsible for their own.

There's been a lot of bad-mouthing the MD roads and the snow plow truck drivers, but from what I've seen, the STATE has done it's job - it's the individual counties that haven't stepped up to do theirs.

10:10 - you're just now realizing that?

Maybe you should all realize that the state kept all the money that usually goes to to county for these types of things. What should they do? Spend money they dont have? If you all are so concerned with this, maybe you should contact your local state representative and ask the the counties be given back their portion of money so that we can have these things. I did see a couple of county salt trucks out Saturday and Sunday, but they were only plowing and salting the main roads. The one in front of my house (airport rd) was clear by Sunday afternoon.
