Let's get real here Folks. The USPS is talking about ways to cut back and save money. IMHO, I couldn't care less about a Saturday delivery. In fact, IMHO, if they only delivered the mail ONCE A WEEK I'd be happy!
If I NEEDED my mail, well, I'd have to go directly to my Post Office and get it myself if it was that important to me, what do you think of that?
Our ridiculous Government Employees just can't use their heads and that's the problem. Hell, they have a monopoly on the residential postal service, so its not like they have to worry how they run their business.
Anyhow, what do YOU think. Should they eliminate Saturday home deliveries? Do you like my other idea about home delivery once a week and if you want daily service you can stop by the Post Office and collect your mail? Think of the cutbacks they could provide right there.

If the government can't run the post office, then how do you think they will run health care? Everything they touch gets messed up.
2-3 times a week would be fine with me, but why should we tell a monopoly how to run a monopoly? Open the market up to private business (UPS and FedEx) and close the post office. Just because the Constitution gives Congress the power "to establish post offices and post roads" doesn't mean they have to run them.
I wouldn't miss them altogether. Give me Fed-Ex & the Big Brown truck. I truly believe everything that is government run is a waist and can be much better in the private sector.
For myself, not having Saturday delivery wouldn't bother me. Usually if it's important mail (ex. bills) they are delivered on Monday thru Thursday. I rarely get anything except junk mail on Friday and Saturday.
Is there a way to get rid of snail junk mail? If so, please share.
All the "Junk Mail" comes on Thurday here in Delmar. In fact, I HATE getting that crap and I instantly walk right to the trash can and dump it in the outside trash. I can only recall ONE time I ever received a bill along with the junk mail since I've lived here for the past 6 years. So Thursday delivery is a complete waste.
The problem with this idea is the people who are collecting unemployment, child support, and welfare would be complaining their checks came late because of the reduced hours.
70yo grump here!!
How about every other day. The small quantity of mail I receive in a week indicates "everyday" is a waste. If business or private party needs 24 hour, let them pay for next day.
I am no fan of BIG GOV but the USPS is well established and does a pretty good job.Cutting delivery in half would elimate almost half of their fleet and several unionized (there is another problem)jobs.
They can deliver mail whenever they want. Now they can't even deliver it to the address on the envelope - they drop wherever they feel like it and expect you to find the rightful owner. I switched to electronic delivery of all important things like bills and statements, and ask most others to send stuff UPS or FedEx. Even still have 2 39 cent stamps left.
Amazon.com slipped up and sent a package by mail on day, and a back-order by UPS the next - both from the same warehouse. Got the UPS package 3 days before the USPS one.
Eliminating Saturday delivery would not be a service reduction because there is no service.
Another way to cut back -- get rid of the old, grouchy postal workers who act like it's a problem to come to the desk because they're holding a personal conversation on the telephone.
We live in Mardela and EVERY SINGLE time I go to the desk, I have to ring a stupid bell just to hear an old lady yell out, "I'll be with you in a minute." Then she meanders around the corner talking the whole time about something going on with a neighbor to someone on the other end of the phone. IMO, she's getting paid to sit and chat on the phone. She even gives you and attitude if you have a question. Weed out the ones that aren't really working!
They have many other options to reduce costs without eliminating Saturday delivery. Contracting out there maintenance and cleaning is one good way. They now have postal employees at every PO that do nothing but sweep floors and polish brass. They are PO employees and get PO wages and benefits. Contrators would be much more cost effective and is what private companys utilize. Have you ever seen a bank teller sweeping or polishing the door knobs? I didn't think so. Contractors come in at night and weekends and do that type of work.
Here are three ideas:
Bid out the delivery of mail to private contractors. You get 10 years, rates MUST stay the same. It's up to you to clean up the beurocracy and legacy of benefits owed. You get a lease of all USPS assets during that period to do your job, and at the end of the period all assets must be in good condition to be turned back to the US government. Whomever pays the most, to be applied towards our national debt only, gets the award.
Cut out Saturday deliveries. Nothing good comes, anyway.
Junk mail is HEAVILY subsidized. Each time they want to raise stamp rates, make them increase the cost of junk mail. We don't want it, anyway!
I am a fan of reduced residential delivery, and increasing the variety of items offered at post offices

AS LONG AS it actually produces measurable $$$ results. Not knowing how the postal system truly operates it is hard for me to say if this saves money. I have learned that making cuts that look visible don;t always save money, as the behind the scenes operations might need to run continuously anyway.
So we are willing to give them a raise even though the job they do gets worse and worse?
This is what it amounts to really, A RAISE. Didn't they just get A RAISE when the price of stamps went up AGAIN???
OMG, what would the people do in Ocean Pines? They are at the cluster boxes every single day at the same time waiting for our postal employee to deliver the mail. They will expire if they have one less day to do that. Guess it will just give them something else to complain about.
Yes, I agree with no Saturday delivery. About all we get anyway, besides some bills, is "junk mail" and I can do without that, plus some store or business catalogs, which I can do without. Is there some way we can get them to stop delivering "junk mail"? I'd be all for that!
Do some research and find out what is going on in your local Post Offices! You may be surprised!
Would I miss it? No
