The arrogance is mind boggling. I quess the irony is that these men probably could have afforded it with their own money. Thats the problem with goverment and goverment agencies, they think it is their money. They also think that they are untouchable. Everybody is touchable...

Anonymous said...

Sure glad I don't live in the city with all of my tax money being exploited...Oh wait, I live in the county. Never mind my money is also wasted. on a different note however, those were some of the strangest looking Dolphins I've ever seen:)

Anonymous said...

They willnever ever get another donation from me. With the economy as it is they sure did throw it in our faces that they could go do something nice like this with our money. Maybe my donation could of paid for a night out for myself. I thought the donation I sent in would honestly help them get something they wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Thanks for teaching me a lesson.

Im so god darn furious I don't even know what to say. If this is not criminal, then I don't know what the hell is!!!

Gordy has plenty money....he'd just rather spend yours! That was just a select few guys huh.....theres no way that little trip cost 5thou....perhaps the entered the contest on your dime too? and the rest of the day and night on the town also?

Glad you enjoyed yourselves, guys! You deserved it and much more!

its actually a mahi-mahi which is a different type of dolphin, not like the normal flipper ones you are used to, those are mammals, these are not.

They are dolphin fish aka mahi mahi not dolphins like Flipper.

Thanks for that update Chief See.

When they buy that fireboat that can take it out instead, and save that $3700. every year!

i don't understand...as far as i am concerned, this video shows a few guys from the fire dept on a fishing trip, why has the conclusion been drawn it was paid for by the city?

Anonymous said...

10:57 Your wrong the fire boat is not rated 4 sea duty ,Really i thought you woulda of known that

joealbero said...

MIKK, the roads in Salisbury aren't made for their new Ladder Truck either, but that doesn't stop them.

Sorry I missed earlier post Joe what am I watching. I understand it is a chartered fishing trip. How do we know who paid for. If it was infact paid for by the F.D. I would think an investigation would be soon to come. Enlighten me oh investgative one ??????

joealbero said...

You have to go back to last nights Post here, http://sbynews.blogspot.com/2009/08/salisbury-fire-department-at-it-again.html

That tells you the entire story and how Mayor Ireton responded clarifying the finds didn't come from the taxpayers general fund, it came from the volunteer funds. See quote below.

"Dept fishing trip not paid for with taxpayer money, volunteer funds."

While the Volunteers hold fundraisers to provide much needed equipment and supplies to relieve such burdons from the taxpayers, See & Gordy have been known to tap into these funds for additional feel good things like the former Chief See's Retirement Party and then they have the ba((s to CHARGE the Volunteers to attend! AMAZING!

Then there's this Fishing Trip and Lord Knows whatever else they've spend donated money on. Hope that helps get you up to speed.

Pat Davis is a volunteer fireman that was promoted to volunteer lieutenant by Bill Gordy, Richard Hoppes and David See even though he didn't meet the qualifications for the position. He was given 18 months to meet the qualifications even though there were other volunteers more qualified. Eighteen months? So he was basically told that he was guaranteed a lieutenants spot for almost 2 years. WOW!

Pat Davis is the same guy that was feeding information to Jonathan Taylor, Salisbury Grinch and Outraged Richard accusing Mayoral Candidate Ireton about being "Gay" and his brush with the law in Rehoboth Beach.

Pat Davis, Bill Gordy and Richard Hoppes worked hard slinging mud against Ireton during the campaign so that their pawn Bubba Comegys could get elected. That's right he used the SalisburyFD.com email address that was assigned to him. This guy is trash and needs to be removed from his position along with Gordy and Hoppes.

This post is about misappropriated(spl) funds, perhaps that is for a seperate post.

Anonymous said...

Let me preface my remarks by saying, I do not support the expenditure any monies illegally. However, volunteers are an essential part of our fire system and provide their service, as I understand it for free. If this expenditure was approved through a formal and legal process, subject to audit, then I do not have a problem with it.

To have the services of the volunteers in our system, thus keeping overall salary and benefit costs down, hence less taxes, is well worth the $5,000 investment in a recreatonal activity; that is clean, fun, rewarding and also contributed to the economy of our local community is a win win. In, addition, it should serve as a morale booster and a recruiting mechanism to attract new volunteers. As long as this type of expenditure is disclosed as a part of the solicitation of funds, it can be included in the overall volunteer budget.

If this is truly the case, then I hereby extend my support and gratitude to all our volunteers for their service, and what few benefits such as this they receive and participate in; I say that is fine with me, and I will continue to contribute to the fund raising of the vounteers.

Anonymous said...

This is misappropriation of fund and malfeasance. These characters involved in these "criminal" acts should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Instead of taking sides and engaging in blog wars,Salisbury residents should be questioning why donations are being earmarked for "buddy outings".
and I wouldnt trade places with Pat Davis today for all the tea in China...

Jeremey Gordy, what a damn joke.
You thought daddy would have invested some money into this trip since he likes ripping everybody else off at the Gordy TigerMarts. He is the reason I shop at WaWa, it's cheaper, cleaner, friendlier, and I know then my money is not going in the hands of Jeremey Gordy.
But this is wonderful. I know now that I will never ever support the Salisbury Fire Department ever again. NEVER EVER.
Also, for those of you requiring EMS transport, feel free to call, you honestly don't even have to pay, they won't persue it, so don't pay, save your money.

Joe I hope that your house doesn't catch on fire or that you'll need Salisbury's fire Dept.'s help one day. Why must everyone bash the fire dept? Some of you have no idea what these men and women have been through. And most of them are volunteers. So when your sleeping sound in your bed at 3 in the morning. When the pager goes off your not the one responding. Your not the one out in the cold or the heat for hours. Just so that when you finally get home you have an hour before you have to go to work.

Anonymous said...

12:25 The purpose of a "Volunteer" is just that. They volunteer their time and energy to the department because they want to. It's not to go out on fishing trips. Do you think one person would have said one word about it if they had perhaps taken out some children that would never have an opportunity like this? Hell no. This is a blatent, flat-out bunch of men who wanted something for nothing and broke the law. It infuriates me that the SFD continues to waste tax payer dollars on garbage. No one ever holds them accountable either. We just keep giving more and more to them. For what? A truck that can't fit down our streets and a fishing trip for volunteers. In economic times such as these, you hold onto your money and cut costs. Hope they enjoyed it. You've screwed us the last time.

Anonymous said...

I've seen the fire dept. in action.
You get paid to put out fires. It's
a job. You didn't have anything to do with 911 and the world trade center. You are not heros . If anything , you are way over rated and overpaid. What you have done is steal from the public for personal gain. You are a very lazy
bunch that lacks responsibilty.
In short , I don't think Salisbury
Fire Dept , volunteer or paid is
should receive any funds from citizens or government . You are thieves and criminals.

Anonymous said...

12:59 PM why do you morons keep threatening Joe with "I hope you don't need the fire department one day" comments. You idiots really think the majority of firefighters are going to say well it's only Joe Albero let's let his house burn down. Some of you volunteers are just plain idiots and need to be weeded out of the fire service because you obviously joined for the wrong reasons.

Anonymous said...

These guys are way under payed for their liability they face each day for me and you. I think its healthy for them even if we payed for it. Should be looking in other areas of waste... Too many to list

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the deep sea fishing link,Joe! Gone fishing!

anonymous 2:15, at least you're retired now and you'd have to pay for it on your own dime. Enjoy your fishing trip. LOL

Anonymous said...

If Wicomico had a decent States Attorney, he would be all over this case immediately. Why no public statement from Davis Ruark about this obvious criminal behavior by public employees.

Anonymous said...

It has been tossed out that this so called funding came from the Lacey Fund which is handled by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore located on Belmont Avenue in Salisbury. If this is the case this money was left in a will to the Salisbury Fire Department. I am sure this person that willed this money to the fire department thought the money would be used responsibly and not on landish chartered fishing trips.

Why were only a select few allowed to attend this fishing trip? If it was a "reward" for such hard work the volunteers do than why was David See on the boat? David See hated the volunteers and dropped the F bomb on them every chance he got.

Now looking at the city charter as prescribed below it appears that the "Fire Chief" is in violation of the city code and this does need to be addressed by the Mayor and City Council.

http://www.ci.salisbury.md.us/Portals/0/CityCodes/MD%20Salisbury%20T02.pdf

Title 2

ADMINISTRATION AND PERSONNEL

2.16 Fire Department

F. Duties and Responsibilities of the Fire Chief. The fire chief shall have general command, control and supervision of all emergency services. Without limiting the scope of the foregoing sentence, the fire chief shall:

5. Ensure that no fire department resources are used for the personal gain of individuals, or public or private corporations or other entities;

No matter what the "funding" source I betting this is a violation of fire department resources. This is definitely a scandal and thank you Mr. Albero for bringing it to the attention of the tax paying citizens.

This is definitely corruption in the fire department and someone needs to be held accountable.

Mayor Ireton I know you read this blog so please do your job.

Anonymous said...

These guys are better than the rest of us. Hoppes, See, and Gordy take care of their own. In
gordys case, literally.

Anonymous said...

It may not be illegal, but some heads should roll.

I appreciate the volunteers. Each year, they have some sort of banquet for saying that. Retirement parties, okay in my book.

But a fishing trip for a select few? No, No and NOOOO!

The volunteers are supposed to be a non-profit group. How many of you would be happy if the Heart Association dumped $5,000 for a lavish dinner just for 10 people?

Pollitt, Ireton...get to the bottom of this and CLEAN HOUSE!

Anonymous said...

Gordo is the problem. See worked for him. Hoppes works for him. a bunch of people work for him.

He just keeps getting worse and worse.

Anonymous said...

Everyone is forgetting the important information.. when and where if the fish fry?? LoL I'm glad I have better things to do than sit here and bash people.. I mean as fun as that sounds.. Get a life. Every fire dept post goes back to the same thing.. Hoppes this and Gordy that and See and so on and so on.. if you don't like it.. don't donate.. if that isn't enough then move away.. Complaining gets you no where

Anonymous said...

Complaining gets you no where

4:26 PM

Really? In the case of the Salisbury Fire Department and our new mayor you might be right about this one.

Anonymous said...

One thing that was omitted in the 2:56 PM post was the fact that the Lacey Fund ran by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore is worth well over a Million Dollars and the 3 volunteer stations divvy up the interest with oversight from the fire chief and the volunteer board. Apparently the board has been dissolved and the oversight is in the hand of the fire chief and/or the volunteer deputy chief which happens to be Hoppes and Gordy.

If the Salisbury Fire Department is worth over a Million Dollars then why are the city and county taxpayers paying for all this new equipment and toys as Bubba puts it?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Gordo is the problem. See worked for him. Hoppes works for him. a bunch of people work for him.

He just keeps getting worse and worse.

3:58 PM

No Jim Ireton is the problem. Jim Ireton was sworn in as Mayor on April 20, 2009 and he has had ample time to resolve that problem in the Salisbury Fire Department. Instead he appointed Hoppes Acting Fire Chief and kept Gordy as the Volunteer Deputy Chief and gave him a brand new car. If the right person was appointed the city would have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in 4 months. That's right Jim Ireton has been in office for almost 4 month's and hasn't done anything he promised he would do. Can you say RECALL!

Anonymous said...

The trip was a retirement gift for the outgoing chief. Quit picking on them

Anonymous said...

6:30
Perhaps our Mayor does not possess the power to fix the problem. Perhaps the power lies in the people who are spending the money. Where does their power come from?

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:30 Gordy's car was bought with Barrie Tilghmans budget and the council majority's blessing, not Jim Ireton's.

Anonymous said...

Chuck, I mean 7:51 PM no one mentioned BPT's budget. Ireton "gave" that car to him by allowing him to stay in that powerful position. This could have been avoided if Ireton did what he promised he would do if he was elected. Ireton is nothing more than a liberal bag of hot air!

Anonymous said...

There is one thing that is constant here. SPENDING YOUR MONEY. Gordy has blown through millions of the fire departments and City's money since he came on board. This fishing trip is just the tip of the iceberg and they will get away with it despite this wonderful video evidence. Little Gordy is untouchable no metter what. He can curse officers, steal, get drunk and disobey PRMC Police and just about anything he wants. Dont bitch about it if your not going to take action. Throw'em out and give the SFD peace again. We're tired of Gordy's antics.

Anonymous said...

Jim Ireton do you hear 9:34 PM and the others on here. The good members of the Salisbury Fire Department are fed up with you allowing the Gordy's to keep bringing a once fine fire department down. There are nearly 200 members both volunteer and career that make up the Salisbury Fire Department with many friends and family. This group can band together and it might make a difference in getting you re-elected. You need to wake up and smell the coffee and prove that you are not a liar as many now believe you are with your false campaign promises.

Anonymous said...

I'm just surprised this group doesn't know someone with a boat.

Anonymous said...

They volunteer because none of you other idiots have the ****s to do so. All you do is blah blah blah wahh wahh wahh. SALISBURY GROW THE ***k UP. YOU ARE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF BABBIES. I mean for crape sake is this all you people have the ability of doing in your so-called beloved city. If it is then it's a wonder it's still standing.

Ya know why it is, probably because there are a select few who do stand up for their community and do the right thing. Point being....
"If you don’t have anything to do to better your community then don’t complain about the ones who are trying to do something for there’s"

Signed.” Not my money not my problem"

I think its funny some felt the need to state that Pat Davis works in the family business. LIke that had any berring on the fishing trip scandal. I'm sure he makes more working for the family business than for the city...

4:17pm I doubt that very seriously, there is not much money in food delivery. Good try though.

Oh, by the way I bought my last meal from that sub shop.

Joe,

I have a great idea for all of us who have donated to the SFD in the past and do not plan to in the future. I was at the Lower Shore Red Cross for a CPR class. While there our instructor informed us that our local chapter had the highest number of volunteers in the entire United States! (based on regional population demographics) That in it's self amazed me! Then he started talking about the economy and how a large portion of their funding comes from donations and the rest comes from sponsors such as the Untied Way contribute approximately 15% of their budget.

SO, I think we should all donate what we would have given to SFD to the Lower Shore Red Cross Chapter. I bet our "donations will be used wisely and help save lives" will NOT be "underestimated" and will definitely be "truely appredciated" and will not be just a bunch of meaningless quotes.

I would much rather my "neighbor" get a clean dry place to sleep after a home fire or natural disaster than see a bunch of spoiled "boys" get a free fishing trip.

Anonymous said...

I forgot to add that the volunteers were for Hurricane Katrina Relief....Sorry!

Anonymous said...

I agree with 10:50 PM that we all should start making our contributions to the Lower Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross. Check out their website http://www.redcrosslowershore.org/

Another thing to consider is why should we donate to the Salisbury Fire Department when they are getting millions upon millions of dollars from the Mayor and City Council. A $10 million dollar palace in a ghetto, 5 new fire trucks, an $800,000 fire boat, a $200,000 Haz Mat truck and trailer. All of these things were not needed and waisted much needed tax dollars. When was the last time Salisbury had a boat fire on the river? When was the last time Salisbury had a Haz Mat incident? You can't tell us can you. Yes many of these things were initiated and done under the previous mayor but Jim Ireton had the perfect opportunity put a stop to the new fire trucks, refurbishing the two new trucks, the fire boat and haz mat truck and trailer. Jim Ireton is quoted as saying he supported the "grant" money for these because we may never get it again. Bad move Mr. Ireton.

Davis is a volunteer or career firefighter? If he is a volunteer then why are the career chiefs promoting him. I wouldn't volunteer in a department where the career call the shots for the volunteers. Sure sounds like that department is messed up.
