Killings hit campus still reeling from 2007 massacre, recent beheading
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Two Virginia Tech University students were found slain Thursday at a Jefferson National Forest campground that is a popular hangout for students, authorities said.
The latest killings are hitting a campus still reeling from the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history and the beheading of a student earlier this year.
The bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest were found by a passerby, Montgomery County Sheriff Lt. Brian Wright said. Both appear to have been shot, he said. Wright said Metzler's body was found inside a car in the parking area of the Caldwell Fields campground and Childs was found outside the car. The campground is about 15 miles from Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg.

Another senseless act of violence. My daughter is now afraid to attend college and live away from home. It's a crying shame that so many humans are so demented.
Arent there alot of unsolved murders in this area around the Appalachian Trail,did they ever catch the person responsible?There was even a segment on AMW about campers being murdered up there.Scary stuff
When I was a teenager (25yrs ago) we used to hike and camp on the Appalacian Trail. I wouldn't in a million years allow anyone I care about to do it without being armed to the hilt. Our society is filled with way too many lunatics these days.
The 12 gauge should be under the sleeping bag, not in it, for quicker aim. The pistols should be in the bag with the safety on.. keep it away from where your hands are during sleep, but easily reachable. Do not hesitate; if someone is over you during sleep, shoot immediately. Any officer would have the decency to allow you to waken before approaching. Just be ready and do it.
why can't these Psycho freaks just shoot themselves....
