If you live or travel through Delmar and have to go over the Railroad Tracks, you're taking your vehicles life into your own hands just trying to get over the Railroad Tracks!
Well here's the good news Folks. If everything goes as planned, July 20th and July 21st they'll be removing the old tracks and replacing them, finally ending the horror of traveling over those nasty tracks!
My hat is tipped to the Town Council of Delmar Maryland and Delaware for finally pulling off what seemed to be an impossible task. I guess we have to thank the R/R Company but what the heck, screw them! They have delayed this for far too many years and put hundreds of thousands of vehicles through hell for far too long. It's about time they got off their A$$ and fixed this serious problem. I would think everyone who has traveled that route, (Rt. 54) would agree with me.

This is GREAT news!
I can tell you though that the town council has been trying for YEARS to get this fixed and were told by the RR that it was not "bad enough" and was not a priority on their list!
So kudos to WHOEVER got this task accomplished!

Thank the lord. I have to creep over those tracks, its pretty sad when you can't drive over something (which is intended to be driven over) at 25 mph without fearing for your car.
Now, what about the crossover at Connelly Mill Road? At least we are getting the sides of Connelly Mill fixed by the trailer park!!! They were out there today working on it.
To the best of my knowledge- it is the responsibility of the RR to maintain ALL grade crossings & bridges including those which passover the right-of-way .... OR pay for upkeep/replacement .... I can recall when Mayors of certain towns threatened to block the tracks with municipal trucks if the RR did not respond in a timely manner & ameliorate the situation.... finely the Feds stepped in & compelled them to do so ....

That crossing has always been a rough one. It was fixed about 15-20 years ago and it didn't last long. It will continue to be a problem unless they elevate the tracks so there is drainage.
Good for Delmar! The crossing on North Division Street in Salisbury is the worst! It's not far from the Mayor's house.

The maintenance responsibility of grade crossings actually is not always the responibility of the railroad, so don't necessarily blast the railroad in this case. Normally (and I am admittedly not sure in this case) the newer of the two routes (road or rail) has to pay to maintain the crossing. That stretch of railroad came through in 1860 I believe, so if the road was built after that, it would be the state's responsibility. I completely agree that the crossing has been neglected too long, but I don't know who is to blame.
This one in Delmar is the RR's responsibilty. I know this as fact because I was part of the group fighting several years ago to get the damn thing fixed.
I also already posted what the RR's response to the crossing was at the time.
Hope it doesn't take as long as that sidewalk in front of Black Belt World did. They are still working on it and have been for months. Its only a couple hundred feet.
Yes! Great news. I do have to ask also what about the Connelly Mill Road crossing it is horrible also. Fixing both crossing would make sense.
I think Connelly Mill is to be repaired this summer, too.
