No harm to the mother or babies, this photo was taken from a safe distance.

Baby birds are so ugly in the beginning. The phase "a face only a Mother could love" comes to mind. I'm glad they grow into pretty birds. Mallards are my favorite to watch change from ugly to fuzzy to beautiful. Thanks for the photos.
I'm having to keep a close eye on the local wild cats along with my dogs when they go out. A bird has built her nest in one of my low planters. I discovered it last week when I went to clean them out for upcoming planting. I guess that one will be left alone this year.
