The State Of Maryland Is Broke

I just received word that a State Employee has been asked to pay out of their own pocket for a required Training Course the State would normally pay for. Mind you, they stated the State would reimburse this Employee for his expenses once the new Budget is passed but in the mean time State Employees will have to front the money. This is not a good sign Folks.

The fiscal year starts on july 1. Only two months away. About normal that some programs run out of $ this close. Not much to worry about.

The positive perspective would be that maybe Maryland is cutting corners on things that are not essential.

how does this prove anything. in the private sector, employees often pay for things like training and travel, and then expense it.

What are you thinking???!!!! Yes it is something to worry about if you are a new employee working in a department that takes an average of 2 months just to get you the first paycheck. Also the key is "State of Md required course" but is unable to pay for. Even the concept of this is morally wrong. Someone (maybe 9:43) did not plan for this training when they were spending budgeted funds.

Look at the bright side. The O'Malley administration is a complete failure. They increased our taxes and we are in the worse financial shape ever. Wake up people and voted the Dems out. What is it that they don't understand about "when you raise taxes, you collect less money in the long haul"? Look at all of the millions that they spent on worthless marshland in the last year, it's just rediculous.

This is scary...That means that not one person within the State System can TEACH this mandatory program!

Suck it up and pay for it. My employer doesn't pay for my courses!
I take them and pay for them to better myself!
Just consider it a deduction from your pension, which most of us don't have.

If it is a required course the state should pay, voluntary course pay yourself or don't attend

what state agency? is it a new employee?

as a new state employee i have been told that our agency can not put out any funds for training, no comp no travel no overtime. How ever i have found training for free or close to free that has been approved. I have found lodging on my own. and yes these are required trainings. any training not needed for the job has been turned down. if an empoyee wants to become someone in an agency they will find a way to get the training

Governor O'Money has stuck a fork in Maryland, it's done. Time to put a "For Sale" sign up in the front yard. It seems that the state, county and city just want to stick it to the citizens. It's time to pull out.

Sometimes state employees want to go to unnecessary trainings and expect the state to pay for overnight travel when they can just as easily get up a little early and drive...just a thought!
