I wonder where the MSM was last night? Oh, that's right, it was Friday night and they had better things to do. Nevertheless, while they were having a good time, motorists were dealing with some pretty serious issues. You know, like a weekend of traveling and Rt. 13 gets shut down for flooding. Some fools were so stupid, they were driving right through the 3 feet deep water in compact cars thinking they could get away with it and the next thing they knew their vehicles were stalling out and not starting again. The Fire Department had to jump into the water and push these fools out of danger because the rednecks in their 4x4's would come racing through the high water throwing water everywhere.
While it may have been fun for some, the Police and Fire Department finally closed Rt. 13 and detoured people around this area. The storm was one of the heaviest I have seen in many years. It brought on heavy rain, heavy winds and even hail.
I'll provide other photos of Fitzwater Street being closed just outside Brew River with the same kind of problems as well as the Shorebirds Stadium getting shut down for horrible conditions as well. The outfield looked like a pond in just a matter of minutes.

A quick history lesson on why that area got flooded so quick. Mayor Ireton and George Chevalier are speaking on that issue this morning. One hundred years ago today that area was underwater. The downtown area and the zoo is basically built on wetlands and should not have been. Has anyone checked to see if any of the animals at the zoo drowned last night. The zoo is also built on ground that was once covered by water.

When I lived in Florida we'd get hit with tropical storms which left roads and highways looking like these pictures of Rt. 13. I can remember watching kids riding up and down the US 1 on jet skis and wave runners since it was closed to vehicles. I'd never seen roads/highways flood like that before. Now I've seen it again (thanks to your pics) right here at home. My road looked like a river flowing during the hardest part of the rain.

The only picture WBOC showed of the rain was outside of their studio. It was in the direction of the hotel next to them. I hope those who were still out of power earlier this morning get it back soon. It's going to be a hot one today.

Is the storm water pipe hooked up yet on Waverly? If so , what was coming out of that? If not, did the backyards of htose folks between Waverylk and the river flood? I hope not. Does anyone know?

I put the canopy,(cheap thing my wife bought) up for the birthday party for "Foxy Brown" yesterday and when the storm hit with those fifty m.p.h. winds its a good thing I over do everything and had the canopy anchored and tied down in so many ways it looked ridiculous because it needed it. The thing swayed and drupped and shook but held firm, just like our flag and our country have done so many times. I stood at the slider watching that stupid little canopy fight for all it was worth and these are thoughts that went through my head.
Hey, the road way would have not been flooded if the lazy idiots in public works would know how to keep the storm drains cleaned out. I see several drains when im on the road and they are usually full of trash, leaves, and dirt.
That area always floods after a heavy deluge. Same for parts of Eastern Shore Drive.
How many of those cars are going to have electrical problems in the next year?
Princeton Ave always floods when there is heavy rain. When I used to walk to grandmom's (Princeton) from school I'd end up swimming across the road. I was wondering how it was last night in that area.
There were times last night that I couldn't see across my little street!
Even with an eight foot overhang over my front porch I had rain coming threw the front door screen.

Public Works does not maintain Rt 13. We "lazy idiots" have mindless toads like you to thank for all the trash and leaves and dirt in storm drains. Where DO you people get the idea that because we are required to provide that service means you are not responsible for keeping your trash and yes YOUR leaves out of storm drains? Just because you pay taxes does not ENTITLE you to disregard your responsibilities as property owners. And guess what, we pay taxes too. Perhaps if people maintained their own properties Public Works would be able to do what we are supposed to do instead of spending a whole afternoon before a storm patrolling NEIGHBORHOODS cleaning out storm drains.
I know for a fact that the area of Hanover Street near Cynthia Place floods even if its just a normal downpour of rain. Given what I've seen of these photos, I can not even imagine what it was like there last night.

For all is concern this has been a problem every time we have a major storm. The system cannot handle the amount of water in a short period of time. I have lived here in Salisbury most of my life. It has nothing to do with city public works in fact state highway handles this one.

I don't know anyone in Public Works, but those nasty comments are unfair. That was a terrible, terrible storm. It could have blown trash and leaves from a mile away.
That Cynthia Hanover area floods because of all the development on Rt. 13. Are the Waverly pipes in yet? That was supposed to fix everything, right?

Rt. 13 might not be serviced by public works but the other city streets are. Guess 12:33 PM I am not a toad and I help pay your salary. You city employees are some to the laziest people I have ever come across. Get off your lazy ass and pick up the trash. You trash men and recycle people are to lazy to bend over and pick up trash you drop. By the way, get a real job.
That was just one helluva storm last night. That was the hardest rain and wind I have seen in a long time. I figured the twister was coming any minute.
I can not believe some of the comments about Public Works. Citizens of this City are so unappreciative..."get a real job"...if those people weren't doing that job your trash would not be picked up. I think the Public Works department does a great job - with little to no graditude.
So, are they rednecks because they were splashing through the water, or because they were driving a 4x4. I seem to be having an identity crisis because of this statement.
hey 12:33, either way, I still see, city, county, state employee's driving around and not doing their job. I also believe this is what YOU are supposed to do in YOUR career. I understand that YOUR career is to maintain, fix, and properly take care of OUR storm water management and road system. It is because WE the United States citizen, is paying YOUR paycheck through taxes, in which YOU are supposed to maintain the road system that WE pay for. It is also my understanding that the state, city, and county can and should cut back on funding for roads because YOU are not doing anything to properly to upkeep the road system and money is not going towards the roads and sewer, it is going to YOUR wallet, while YOU punch the time clock, ride around, punch it again, and get paid to waste gas, money, and time.

Did you know that the Old School Baptist Church on the corner of Baptist Street and Rt. 50 used to baptize their members behind the church? That's right the courthouse and the parking lot used to be underwater.
