Why So Many Empty Seats At At JMB Graduation?

Because the roof was caving in, that's why! Last night at the JMB Graduation at the Wicomico County Youth & Civic Center, someone left the hatch open on the roof and when the heavy downpour hit Salisbury, ceiling tiles were falling from the extremely high ceilings and down onto the crowd below!
The crowd was immediately relocated to higher ground, (into the stands) and they proceeded with the Graduation only allowing the Seniors on the ground floor away from the area that was getting soaked and partially out of danger.
Congratulations JMB Seniors!

Didn't anyone working at the Civic Center notice the reports early in the day that the whole shore was under a thunderstorm watch? Seems they would of just been on the cautious side of things especially knowing they had a graduation that evening.

Congrats to ALL of the Wicomico County seniors. There were two students I know who graduated this week. I'm very proud of both of you.

Want another Civic Center? Condenm the old Mall through eminent domain and build there. They confiscate the property of ordinary Citizens or try to dictate what they do with their property, ie farmers and their land, so why not this property? With the right management they could draw big name events / concerts, means more money. Then the present Civic Center could be remodeled and usedfor meetings, graduations and other smaller events. Again the key to the solution is the right management, then both could be very profitable to the County and the Wicomico Tax Payers.

I went to Bennett- The students should have been used to this. Sounds like a typical rainy day in the cafeteria. Good thing they are building a new one. Leaks and falling tiles were a normal occurrence. The only thing missing was the sloppy joes last night.

Maybe the high winds blew the hatch open? Sounds more resonable doesn't it? Pony up some money and let's get a new civic center and this kind of stuff would not happen.

Now Gary Mackes will want another $1 Million to fix up that dump of a building. Those costs should come out of his pockets.

Knock that frickin' thing down for Buddha's sake and leave it as a skatepark BBQ/dog park/walking trailo. What are you guys around here....dumb or just so darn dumb you can't work a bloody grilled cheese sandwich?!! I don't want to hear another fudgin thing about YOUTH THIS and NO ALCOHOL THAT. Poo or get off the pot...I went out in this tumbleweed town last night to spread money, commerce and good cheer with friends from a 'real city'..and was just unbelievably embarassed at a LOCAL restaurant-NOT A CHAIN-my group wished they were back in Utah where at least the bars stayed open and you got some form of quality food/service until at least 9:45 p.m..........I get so frickin tired of these lame headlines-this city has nobody to blame for it's terminal diseases than itself......quite frankly...you need a smack!!

We can only make a statement at this time; please no questions right now.

Earlier today, frequent commenter, Reese Bobby, became so overwhelmed by feelings of eternal, county apathy/hopelessness/boneheaded-ness that he has simply run amok through the streets of the town. Local law enforcement authorities contacted us, and we were able to put three rhino sedative darts into him; however, he only started singing "Fire On The Mountain" and then he took all three barrels under the boat.

He is presumed 'at large' tonight seeking a competant waitress {Florence Jean Castleberry of "Alice" kiss-my-grits fame would seem a 4-Star improvement at this point}, that doesn't have a bug up her butt; and a sandwich that doesn't taste like it was made from some form of 'meat' from a Preakness underachiever!!!!!!!!!

Having worked there procedure before a show is to turn the AC on to chill the room before everyone gets there and having the roof hatch open helps that process....guess someone forgot to close it, lmao

Gary Mackes has the biggest empire in the county and he talks like they do no wrong. That incident may have caused quite a lot of problems at tax payers expense. Gary Mackes is a liability and the county needs to get rid of him.

The real kicker is they charge the Wicomico County Schools to use a County building for proms & graduations. The price is out of this world as well.
JMB is always getting the kick in the pants.. Here is the final kick of a wet graduation.
Congrats class 2009. Maybe one of you will some day be the person in charge at the Civic Center and change things.

I really doubt anything was "left open" we who rent the C.C. have been told for about 6 years now they need a new roof. GET THE ROOF!!!
