Yesterday, 5/17, while at North Walmart in Salisbury, my wife was approached by a young woman while she was entering stating that her car was broke down, she had 2 small children, no money to get car fixed and needed a ride to Princess Anne. My wife was aware of the "scam" thanks to your blog. She explained that because of her husband(me) and our kids were waiting for her so couldn't help. She immediately found the manager and security but security wasn't able to find her. She then called me to let me know what happened. I want to thank you for always keeping us up to speed on things like this happening. Knowing my wife, in the past she would have
tried to help and I don't know what would have happened. She said she immediately remembered something had been posted about this in the past...
Thanks from a grateful husband. Who knows if it was a ploy to get her out to her car to rob her or worse. I'm just glad we didn't find out.

Your intuition that this was a ploy is probably correct, since this "tale of woe" that the lady told is a very familiar one. It's too bad that this type of scam happens, especially since the lady could very well have been on the "up and up." Since your wife had no way of knowing, she handled it right.
A few months ago, a young man approached a lady on the Fruitland Wal-Mart parking lot to say that he needed a ride to WaWa (next to Goodwill). The lady referred him to me(a male) since she was by herself. Without thinking, I agreed to take him. This story, fortunately, ended happily, as that was really all he wanted. I felt sorry for him because it was very cold. Still, later I thought about all that COULD have happened because I wanted to do a good turn for someone.

I just got my wife a small caliber handgun for self defense. We have talked about it and we understand that it is against the law to carry a handgun in your purse, etc. We have come to the conclusion that it is better to be tried by twelve than to be carried by six. The kind of scam someone just tried to pull on your wife is just one of many things going on right now that will leave law abiding citizens as innocent victims. We've made a conscious decision not to become victims without putting up a fight. I'm happy things worked out good for your family and I hope nothing like this ever happens again to you. What happens if you are at a family gathering and your purse and coat are in a bedroom and a small kid finds the gun and the worst happens?

What if the person who approaches, with a tale of woe, really and truly needs help and is just reaching out for some assistance? And we, as a society on edge - toting handguns, mistake this person for a criminal? You can probably imagine the rest of the story. It will be a panel of 12 trying you or your loved one for murder.
I imagine there would be even more "panel of 12" around SBY.

Here is some knowledge you may need to learn. It's against the law to carry a gun. Teach the law first!
Two wrongs don't make a right. If you are out in public just start screaming at the tops of your lungs. Plus if I don't feel safe, I go in with a group and exit with a group or security guard. It's nice to know that you will be risking my life as well. If you want to do this correctly, take a gun course and get a permit to tote the gun. If you get busted with that in your purse, you will be in more trouble than you think. You are just as nuts as the scam artist.

Look at all the innocent victims of violent crimes who wouldn't have been victims if their right to keep and bear arms hadn't been infringed upon.
All you need to do in just this type of situation is say "I will be happy to call law enforcement to come and assist you with your vechile." Take out your cell...call 911. That should take care of things quite nicely. In the meantime, keep moving toward the store and other people.

Anon. 9:31-Her hair was like a rusty dark color. The kind you get when you try to dye your hair at home and fail. She was plump and had a tattoo on her ankle. My wife said the woman wouldn't look at her in the eyes when she was talking to her. Had scabs on her lips. No tears though...
Sounds like a crackhead or a meth fiend. They frequently have mouth scabs from sucking on hot glass pipes.
