A Comment Worthy Of Attention And A Post

"Jeez, you people are really impatient! Jim has been mayor for 2 full days, and you already want proclamations? The fact that the budget is online 24 hours after he became mayor is huge--give the guy credit! I want to draw attention again to the fact that Mayor Tighlman has cut health insurance for Debbie Campbell's family, and Terry Cohen's family--they have kids and to cut their health insurance while putting an $8,000 raise for Lore Chambers is outrageous, to say the least! The citizens need to speak up about this. It is vindictive and is very revealing of the former mayor's low class. The council must restore this money, or it will be on THEIR heads if one of the kids gets sick and cannot get proper care."

This is true. Under the Mayor's proposed Budget she wants to cut out Health Insurance, (out of spite) from Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen. While I don't believe this is legal through the Charter, Barrie did it anyway. I told you she's a bully in the playground. Hopefully Mr. Ireton can stop this.

I believe the council has to alter the former mayor's budget, so it is up to Comegys, Smith, and Shields to do the right thing here. I will promise you this--if they do not restore the health insurance, I will get a recall vote. I know it is difficult, but I will do it. I have not participated in one before, but I will not rest until it happens. Do the right thing, city council.

I agree with this post. I wasn't expecting to see his budget so soon. As for what the Former Mistake of Salisbury did to Debbie and Terry is so wrong. If you cut two, you should cut all. Instead she had to make sure she had the last slap. I hope Mayor Ireton can correct this quickly. We've all seen how little Brooke Mulford went from being a healthy little girl to one fighting a big battle. We can't allow this insurance cut to happen.

I'm patiently sitting back waiting to see what Mayor Ireton does about the SPD and SFD chief positions. I was happy to hear he was planning to meet with those from the Salisbury Urban Society. I think this group is important for the future of Downtown.

There's one thing I wish could be changed but it may be to late. The commercial advertising the Salisbury Festival is still running with the Former Mistake proudly introducing herself as the Mayor. This commercial should of been made with Mayor-Elect Ireton with another commercial made at the same time which should of started two days ago as Mayor Ireton.

Mayor Ireton, your on the right track. Don't pay attention to those who didn't vote for you who are wanting things NOW. Those same people are the ones who are guiding those three on the city council who will try blocking you every step of the way. Not to worry, they don't have promised positions in two years.

You want the tax payers to pay for this? By what reasoning? Is it a full time job? I thought you were the one who was against unnecessary and frivolous spending? Or is that only when it doesn't go into the pockets of people who you like???

As long as the rule is consistently applied to all, then I see nothing wrong with saving the money.

Point being if Bubba, Louise or Shanie had any dependent children mare exit stage left would never have made the cut. It's an act of vengence like the election. You don't give someone a job without making them aware of pay and benefits. End of story.

Anon 8:52 Frivolous spending is giving Lore Chambers yet another increase in salary. Purchasing yet another piece of equipment for the SFD while they don't have enough people to man the equipment they already have. Paying 32k for banners to fly around the city. Bottled water. The Crossroads Chronicle. Soundproofing Barrie's office. Purchasing a roadbed that was to be donated to the city. All of the unused studies that have been done throughout the city. These are a few examples of the frivolous spending by the Tilghman administration approved by her flying monkeys.

As with any job, health insurance is a benefit included in a compensation package. Barrie Tilghman has no legal leg to cut compensation to anyone.

8:52,

It is NOT consistently applied to all! It was speciafically done to target her two critics. Youa re ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

8:52, it's applied to all council members, and Shanie Shields has it but Bubba and Louise are sucking off the taxpayers at the state and national levels. Rumor has it Shanie is going to "get taken care of" some other way.

Health insurance is a benefit extended to ALL employees, council members included. That "frivolous spending" is being cut just for two employees Mayor Tilghman hates.

Excuse me. That's EX-mayor Tilghman!

This isn't just wrong. It's sick.

Sounds like you have A LOT of faith.. LOL

All:

And what about spending to compete in the ALL-American City contest.
That's really outrageous!

The marina fund was doubled, why?

Salisbury could win the All American City Crime Award at least it would be earned honestly.

Best place to raise kids award? Why? Name one thing or place kids can do or go here safely, besides play little league ball.

This is wrong on SO many levels and makes me IRATE! Why were Terry and Debbie the only ones being cut??? Hummmmm, I wonder.

This is unacceptable and disgusts me!!! Rest assured that this will be looked into.

Jim, I mean Mayor Ireton :) can not make these changes overnight. It's going to take time to un do all of the crap that the EX mayor has flung all over Salisbury. Be patient, it will happen.

When I questioned bottled water, the city told me the mayor paid for it all, got it in writing. Darn Jim how can you afford to buy bottled water for all city employees on that salary?

Get back with me on that, OK? : )

A raise for public works? hmmm

Let's see, terrible roads and sidewalks, regular sewage spills and told to expect more? Poor maintainence on city vehicles, every project needs change orders for more money.

The WTTP built on time and under budget? That's a load of crap right there. You want a raise? NOT!

Anonymous said...

The first cut in the budget should be the administrative assistant, Chamberpot man hands has got to go. We don't need a greenhorn administrator, with the problems we are facing we need a seasoned veteran for that job and it's a fact Chambers is not that experienced.

Anonymous said...

Anyone in public works should be thankful they have jobs and benefits. Many of us are working two jobs trying to raise kids and have health insurance. When you have earn your money with two jobs there's no such thing as overtime and time and a half or benefits so give me a break.

The ex-mare is probably got a bug up her butt because her boy Bubba didn't git him raise awww Po Ole Bubba.

Will someone explain why Elected Officials are on Health Insurance to begin with?

Anonymous said...

Somebody needs to tell Commy, Luweasel and Shamie that they have no legal right to deny an employee health insurance benefits that are offered to all other employees. State law says it SHALL be offered. The Mayor deliberately left it out. It is up to the City Council to put it back in to avoid a lawsuit and a LAWSUIT is what they will get if they do not.

anonymous 11:14, Even though I'm just too busy to respond to your comment, this one deserves the proper attention.

The reason why they deserve it is because they get paid peanuts for doing all of the work they're handed. You clearly have no idea what goes on behind the scenes.

I for one have been calling Council Members day and night for years trying to get information and the ones I have called have always taken my call, including Gary Comegys.

I say, ANY perk you can give them is well deserved. That includes the Mayor, County Council and so forth and so on.

The City isn't paying them for gas when they run all over the place doing Grand Openings, meetings, you name it.

I think your questioning this perk makes you an American I'd rather never shake hands with, seriously.

The question was raised about health insurance for council members when Day was on council. It was determined that council members qualified to elect coverage paid for by the city. Case closed. It would be interesting to see who has availed themselves of this legitimate benefit over the years. Fact is, if an employee elects the benefit the city is responsible to pay for the coverage (the employee, including a council member) is responsible for paying the additiional expense of adding family members. Removing the funding to pay for the benefit was irresponsible and probably illegal. If, Heaven forbid, Comegys had become our Mayor and his replacement had elected coverage that would have been a legitimate expense as well. The service that we get from a council member who takes their responsibility to us seriously is definately worth the small salary and the cost of benefits. This was just done in an attempt to embarass Campbell and Cohen. It is shameful.

It is truly a disgrace. Council, it is time to step up. You say you want to be decent, you say you want to be fair, you say you want to work together. Do the right thing and restore health insurance for these families.

To the City of Salisbury's Council..This is a new beginning and a time for you all to start fresh. Here is the chance to change the way the city thinks of you. Show us that you will work for the City now and not Tilghman. Your free and she can't get you now my little pretties!

Astonesthrow said...

In regards to 12:59's comment and a few others.
You are correct, this is a new beginning and the mayor needs ALL of our support.

Make sure you go to the council meeting on Monday and express your feelings there.

I for one will be there to support Urban Salisbury's and the Public Works dept. They need us all to speak out and show support. Again, if we all work together we can make a difference.

Anonymous said...

I will be there in support of Urban Salisbury and health care for council members.

Show up, citizens, if you want change!

Anonymous said...

And why are we paying very expensive benefits for part time employees. If they don't have a full time job where they can get insurance through their employer they should pay for it like the rest of us do. Doesn't Shannie have a full time job that offers benefits. This is rediculous cut all benefits for these part time people. They say they serve the public out desire to bring change and leadership. I say their lucky they get paid.

Anonymous said...

Name one Company that provides full Medical Benefits to Part Time Employees?

Anonymous said...

SHA is one, well the employees claimed to be working full time but that was an out and out scam! Huh Bubba?

Don't lie, you and Donnie are still under investigation!

Anonymous said...

The irony is, Debbie and Terry often put in full time hours in their part-time council job.

Cut Bubba's travel and meal expenses. I'd much rather pay for the health insurance of two hard-working true public servants than pay for the face stuffing of a guy who sold us a bill of goods on the WWTP. He aughta get recalled just for that.

I wish I ahd read this when it was fresh, but things got in the way. To those who feel Campbell and Cohen are only part-time employees and don't deserve benefits, try following these two around for a week, especially around budget time. They both take the time to read EVERYTHING line by line, as opposed to others on the Council who shall remain nameless. They have even been CRITICIZED for taking the job seriously and doing their homework! I think they only make about $10,000/yr, and even at a 20 hr work week, double for full time 40 hours, would you take the crap they do for $20,000/yr, especially with no benefits? Yeah, sure you would. Wish I could afford to pay their health insurance out of my own pocket, but I've been taxed to death like everyone else for Marey/Barrie's projects.
