Education Awards & Recognitions Night

Congratulations to the Students, Teachers and Schools Honored at the April 21 Board of Education Awards & Recognitions Night

The spring Wicomico County Board of Education Awards & Recognitions Night was held April 21, 2009 at Salisbury Middle School.

The Board recognized teachers, students, community partners, schools and departments for the following achievements.

Recognition for Athletic Achievement

Coach Barbara McCool, Girls Head Basketball Coach at Mardela High School, outstanding career achievement of reaching the milestone of 600 Varsity wins in the state of Maryland. McCool was recently recognized by the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association as the “District VIII Athletic Director of the Year.” McCool received a Governor’s Citation and House Resolution in her honor.

2009-2010 Wicomico Teacher of the Year

Susan L. Cullen, 3rd grade teacher at Delmar Elementary School, announced March 19 as Wicomico Teacher of the Year. She will represent Wicomico at the Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala. Cullen received a Governor’s Citation and House Resolution in her honor.

Maryland Elementary School Counselor of the Year

Tana Ellis, school counselor at Prince Street Elementary School, recognized by the Maryland School Counselors Association as the Elementary School Counselor of the Year for the state of Maryland. Ellis received a Governor’s Citation and House Resolution in her honor.

2009 Maryland Music Teacher of the Year

James Gary Hammer, band director at Bennett Middle School, for receiving the prestigious Maryland Music Educators Association ‘Award for Excellence’ as the Outstanding Career Music Teacher for 2009. Hammer received a Governor’s Citation and House Resolution in his honor.
