Salisbury Police News

Hello,

I thought you might be interested in an incident that occurred earlier this evening. Six friends and I were just walking back from a friend's house and we stopped by at Dunkin Donuts to use the bathroom. One of our friends went around the back to see if any donuts were in the dumpster, and I went inside because I didn't want to get a fine for dumpster diving! Well, I come back out and there is a HUGE
fight going on - looked like it was gang related - a big group of people maybe in their early/mid twenties beating up two guys (looked like college kids)...they're all screaming and making a big fuss.

We continue walking, and one of my friends is carrying a box of donuts that he found (I admit that was stupid...I didn't eat any!) Well, two cops roll up to the parking lot from one entrance as two cars of the "gang" were leaving from another entrance. The first car was full of people, who hesitated before they pulled out to route 13, and we heard the guys in the car behind them yell "GO BITCH GO!" (obviously they were trying to escape).

So the cops surround us, and one of the officers JUMPS OUT OF THE CAR and YELLS AT MY FRIEND WITH THE BOX OF DONUTS "YOU! STOP!!!" My friend replies "Me???" The officer gets up in his face, and another 3-4 officers come out and continue questioning him about his box. My friend keeps telling them that there was just a huge assault and that the people just drove off, that the cops could still catch up with them. Instead, ANOTHER cop car rolls up and continues the investigation of my friend with the box of stale donuts. After taking his information, scolding him for "acting strange" and making sure that Dunkin Donuts wasn't interested in getting their old donuts back they let us leave (took about 10 minutes, just enough time for the crazies to get away..)

Just ridiculous, makes me so mad that they're spending their time on dumpster diving (yes, I know it's illegal but it's not an assault!!) when people are getting the s*** beat out of them - at the same time and place! They were probably just trying to get their donut fix....write me back for any questions.

Hope this interests or helps you.

Joe, something is not right with this story. He said "as we continued walking" seems like they walked a good distance with that statement when the entrances are no more than 100 feet from the front door. Maybe SPD had a call from DD about the dumpster diving and had no knowlege of a (fight). With that, Why didn't they get the tag and vehicle info and description? but no they didn't. These college kids were prob loud, drunk and obnoxious that night as always.

That is because it is easier to go after the college kids, than fight real crime. The Mayor has the Salisbury Police chasing college kids to keep her friends in the Camden neighborhood happy, while the rest of the city goes down the crapper. I think that college students living off campus should register their houses with the Salisbury police and SU police. If there is a problem with noise or underage drinking, let the SU police come out and handle it. That would free the Salisbury Police to pursue the real crime plauging this city. Just an idea, not sure if it is feasable.

I'm not sure what time this occured last night, but I was out about 1:30 or so and there was a large crowd at Taco Bell and I believe then carried over to Dunkin Donuts, At that time I didn't see any cops but wouldn't be surprised if this wasnt' part of it. Then I went to WAWA and yet another large crowd. Considing the time of night I'm thinking it could have been a large crowd of college kids coming out to the warmer night time weather.

Dumpster divin for food is just stupid. The cops aren't at fault if they got there after the fight took place and went after the most suspicious acting individuals. Do most of the college students only use their brain on campus, then go out of their way to act stupid any other time? I went to SU and didn't act like that, but heard alot of dumb stories, like the guys who only had one small car to get about 10 people to brew river, so they fit about 3 of their buddies in the trunk. It's just a matter of time before some of these drunk kids get killed for being stupid, - and stop blaming the cops. If you act stupid, stupid things will happen to you.

10:30, Sounds like a good idea to me. I think the Campus Cops should have concurrent jurisdiction with the City Police. It's the college kids who are the problem, so let the college cops deal with them.

I would want to know a lot more about this case before I made any comment.

So this SU student walks by the 2 people getting beat up by a gang, doesn't try to help or at least call the police that this student is blatantly trying to run down.

anybody that "dumpster dives" should get a life!

I WORK AT TACO BELL AND THAT IS NOT HOW IT WENT DOWN. THE COPS SHOWED UP AFTER THE FIGHT WAS OVER AND ALL SUBJECTS WERE GONE. ONE OF THE OFFICERS WAS SPEAKING WITH ME WHILE THE OTHERS MET WITH THESE KIDS. IT WAS LEARNED THAT THEY STOLE THE DONUTS FROM THE REAR OUTSIDE FREEZER. GET BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY BEFORE YOU PRINT SOMETHING. THANK YOU TO THE OFFICERS WHO CAME TO THE STORE.

wow. go city police....

seriously...what a bunch of idiot cops. Who runs this city? Obviously the gangs.

There was a report of a fight at the Taco Bell with several people involved. SPD had alot of officers throughout the Salisbury Area because all you college students enjoyed the warm weather and wanted to fight every five minutes. There had to have been 5 large fights going on throughout the city at the same time. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time and unfortunatly the fighters were gone when SPD got there. Plus your friend still committed a crime. Get over it....

Wouldn't mind myself if the college left...

5:38,
They FREEZE donuts????? I thought the whole idea of going to the store where donuts are made is to get FRESH donuts; which are then thrown out if they don't sell within so many hours.

Now, freezing donuts... THAT'S donut abuse!!! They should arrest the store manager!

Jack Richards, always remember when referencing the Salisbury Police Chief there's always a "y" after "f" too. That would be, CHIEFY.
