Salisbury Mourns The Loss Of A Young Marine

Joe,

Yesterday sometime early afternoon, my Wife's Sister's younger son had been visiting the family for the past 10 days on leave from the Marine Corps in NC. His unit had been deployed to Afghanistan for a tour of duty for a period of time.

While home last week they celebrated Christmas, his 21st. birthday and bought a new pick-up. At a family get together everyone was having a great time even though all of us knew that when he went back he was going to Iraq for his next duty.

However Shaun Mitchell [21] knew the risks involved and wanted to go to support his buddies and the Marine Core. Yesterday he left Salisbury to return and he was involved in a auto accident somewhere on South 13 near Westover in Somerset County. He left the roadway and hit a tree head on. He died instantly from massive head injuries.

Just thought I would drop you a note on this young person that had a future and life is so short. There were no drugs involved or alcohol.

God Bless the Military.

Earl

Editors Note: One of our Son's is in his final weeks at Parris Island in Basic Training for the Marine Corps. We feel your pain Brother, God Speed. Joe

My daughter went to school with Sean. He could always bring a smile to your face. He went through some rough patches--but he came through it a better man. It is so sad that his life ended so early. You will be missed. God bless your family!

Sean was such an inspiration. He went through some really rough times trying to get himself together during high school and finally saw what everyone wanted for him. He turned out to be a great person and an asset to the military. He is a story of how someone can be heading down the wrong path and see the change the world needed him to be. He will be greatly missed by all! RIP Sean

His brother Chris is an employee of mine. I had been fishing with the 2 of them twice. Smart, bright young guy. Having just spent a great weekend with 2 of my brothers I just can't imagine something like this. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the entire family.

I saw this accident happen.I was about 15 cars behind him. I dont know if he fell asleep or was just unattentive for a moment (wich we all can be while driving.)
He left the road all the sudden to the left glansed of one tree and then head on to another very large tree and the truck disintigrated around him. I and others stopped , ran down to help but there was nothing to be done.
Very sorry for your loss. Wish there where more we at the seen could have done for him.
He is with God and is at peace. Sleep well knowing this.
