LOCAL BOOK ISSUES

I would like for everyone to be aware of the local book. My husband went to talk to someone about posting an ad in the book and they told him all he had to do was sign this paper and they would give him a rough draft then he can say if he wants it or not. Well we got the pic and were not happy with it so we called and told them that we didn't want it. They informed us that we signed a contract for that space in the book which we were never told that's how the contract was set up. WE now have a ad going in the book that WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH NOR DID WE AGREE TO. On top of that it is going to cost 3,000. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this matter would hate to see someone else get mis information from this company.......

Lesson #1. Read what you sign.

If you do not understand, do not sign.

When this book first came out I was called and when I ask if they were the Verizon Yellow Pages, where I had my add I was told yes. When the salesperson arrived low and behold it was the Local Book. I showed them the door!

I have been dealing with the Local Book since they started here. Have never had a problem with two business that I do the advertising for. If you want to talk about big advertising problems try verizon yellow pages, they never get an ad right! cj

the local book screwed me also then the local rep came in and had no authority to fix the issue. I also refuse to advertise in that rag!!! They got me for $8,000. The verizon book is the only real book period!

We have done advertising with both Verizion(aka Idearc Media) & Local book. We have currently stopped advertising w/ Verizon. We have never had a problem with the local book and have found them to be great to work with. Our ads have turned out exactly how we wanted, but we also do not waste our money on the big ads..we try to keep it under $1,500.00.

Do people still use phonebooks?

I use the internet yellow/white pages or a free 411 on my cell phone. It takes too many books just to cover the shore, let alone other states.

I also had issues with Yellow Book running my business number for two years after I told them to stop. I know they are padding the book with bad numbers.

I have been advertising in all three of the local books(Verizon, Yellowbook,Local book) since 2005 and have not had any issues at all.

Mr. Albero, Why do you allow your site to be used by disgruntled folks who usually are at fault for their own problems. It really cheapens your good articles.

Report them to the Better Business Bureau

anonymous 11:18,

This is a Blog, not a Newspaper. While this individual could have just as easily put this in the Grapevine and or a letter to the editor at the Daily Times, they chose to gain a larger audience.

Now, you, (and others) have every opportunity to agree and or disagree, this allows people to make up their own mind and expose their experiences.

That goes for each and every article we put up.

Word of mouth is still the best advertising you can get and its free. All you have to do is to a good job for your customers.

I like the Local Book simply because I can see it better. The Verizon Phone Book's print is so small I have to use a magnifying glass to see it. Useless as far as I'm concerned. I don't own a business and I don't advertise, but if I did, I'd use the Local Book.

I can understand your problem, but unfortunately, you signed something. Has the book gone to print? I'd be curious to know if I called them today, would I be able to get an ad in their publication, to my liking? In other words, how come it's too late to change your ad?

Anon 11:18, it good that these types of problems are made public. It's a lesson on life kind of thing. It reminds us all to read everything and anything before we put our signature on it. Or to even take it home and sleep on it. I don't understand though, why they want to cancel the whole thing if it was only a mistake in the ad. Isn't there time to fix it?

I think the new local book comes out in Aug..

The Local Book has tried to screw us over for years as well and I would suggest before signing on with them you read the document you are signing. Their people are rude and cannot take no for an answer so they will try to pull anything over on you just to get you to sign on.

yellow books a joke, why do I here in SBY want to be in an ad right next to the guy in cape charles. I'm only in local book now. was in 5 of them, now only the SBY and OC books. never had a problem, even with multiple changes on the proofs given.
here now,
let me find some wood to knock !

I have advertised for several years and never had a problem with the Local Book. In fact, I find them much easier to deal with than the Idearc book and a better value.
