Conficker Worm Set to Spring to Life

By JORDAN ROBERTSON, AP

SAN FRANCISCO (March 30) - The fast-moving Conficker computer worm, a scourge of the Internet that has infected at least 3 million PCs, is set to spring to life in a new way on Wednesday — April Fools' Day.

That's when many of the poisoned machines will get more aggressive about "phoning home" to the worm's creators over the Internet. When that happens, the bad guys behind the worm will be able to trigger the program to send spam, spread more infections, clog networks with traffic, or try and bring down Web sites.

GO HERE to read more on how to Prevent Conficker Infection.

It's going to spam everyone's e-mail with an April Fool's message. I can't wait.

you know you have to wonder why someone would waste their time in making these "malware" "viruses". I think it is a little higher in the chain, maybe billy gates. to sell more computers that are faster and safer? maybe our own anti viruses? look a little farther into it. since i bought my computer i removed all Vista installed anti virus anti spyware anything that came on the computer to protect it. I put Zone Alarm in charge. It does WAY better of a job then any other program and it does it all. I trust them and wont be worrying about the conficker worm but if they do find the author they need to pay for every computer they harmed, all the hours spent trying to protect computers and some money for grief then they need to be treated to a nice big ole can of whooooop arse

4:33-Where and how do I install it?

www.microsoft.com/security

If you can't get to the site but can get everywhere else (google.com for example) chances are you already have the virus.

Many virus writers are the same people that work on and develop anti virus software, sort of a job security scheme. They need their fingers chopped off.

chriso12385 - give it a break.
MS says that "The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an affected system" and the patch is for that possible vulnerability. I'm really sure MS is behind this.

I went one step further than updating my anti virus program! I put that picture of the mayor in the red coat up as wall paper! Ain't NO virus gonna get past that!

hey anon 6:49 wise up think about it would you waste your time and create a program for free to crash peoples computers and cause problems? no someone is being payed to make these programs and i blame microsuck and CRapple. Its all so your computer in a few years will crash or start acting weird so you will have to buy their software or upgrade and pay money for their anti virus. Its all a bs money scheme except computers are a very valuable asset in our world today so pretty much everyone needs them. So please keep your blinders on its doing you a great justice.

it's been two days since the Conficker scare and thankfully it looks like most people have emerged unscathed (myself included)
