Even if Comegys were not running for mayor, the misrepresentation and cover-up of the latest debacle at the waste water treatment plant that he and Barrie Tilghman perpetrated for many months – until it was exposed this week – is unethical if not also unlawful. And now there’s yet another effort to scam the voters in the upcoming City election.
In Barrie’s hasty attempt to do damage control on the WWTP in another of her absurd media events, she very predictably blamed this blog for publishing “privileged” material that was “leaked” by Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen [Ms. Cohen was not involved in any activity of the kind]. When it was pointed out that the material was not designated confidential, she attempted to claim that the City Attorney had advised the Council members that it was privileged. But that charade died in birth – Paul Wilber, who knows that lying to support a client can jeopardize a lawyer’s license, remained mute when asked to confirm Barrie’s fabrication. For once let’s commend him for doing the right thing.
What makes Barrie’s antics in her one-ring circus truly asinine is her statement that she was going to reveal the entire situation at the WWTP “in the first week in April,” the suggestion being that this would have happened before the election to be held on April 7. But, if (as Barrie has said) disclosing the information could harm the City’s claim for damages reimbursement, why would Barrie do so? The answer, of course, is that it is not potentially harmful in that regard. The documents that were “leaked” contain nothing that the parties involved in the design and construction of the WWTP do not already know or would learn in the course of litigation or arbitration proceedings.
It’s also obvious that Barrie and Gary had no intention of making any disclosure whatsoever before the upcoming general election. On the day before the recent primary election, in a “public affairs” program that ran on WICO, they touted the WWTP upgrade as a major accomplishment. Ten days later, in her State of the City speech, Barrie boasted that “the upgrade and expansion of the Waste Water Treatment Plant was substantially completed in 2008.” In neither instance did they mention that it still cannot be operated as intended or that the City has “suspended” the project engineer (O’Brien & Gere) and has retained a special consultant to remedy the non-functional system that has cost some $80 Million to design and build.
That Gary Comegys is once again complicit with Barrie in scamming Salisbury is further proof that, if elected on April 7th, his tenure as mayor would be more of the same.

The students should look at Comegys' record as a 6 year incumbent city council vice president and they would see that under his terms the city has polluted the Wicomico River more than at any time in our history. Since 2005 our city has discharged a 1,000,000 gallons of raw sewage into the river and there are many hidden pipes that comes from who knows where because they've been there forever! Most so-called environmental groups around here are nothing but political lobbists because if they were really concerned about the environment they would be at city council meetings squeeling like a pig. I'd like to see the University become "our" independent environmental trust and work with we citizens to have a true picture of water and soil sampling. They already have the tools and education at their fingertips. Let's work together. GOO Jim Ireton
Bubba is relying on the SSU Students to not care about the WWTP and vote for him anyhow. I give these students far more credit than that. I hope that they can see through his smokescreen and do the right thing an vote for the BEST candidate if they are eligible to vote in Salisbury.
I'm really sick of all the media, blogs included, that continue to say the information was leaked. NOTHING was leaked. Bill Reddish asked Debbie Campbell a question on his morning show and she answered it. As host of a talk show it is Bill's job to ask questions.
Gary Comegys should be held responsible for putting the focus on the WWTP with all of his bragging about the WWTP and the spending of $80 million + that he is most proud. Anything he, Barrie, or Louweasel say or do is suspect, they are all known and have been proven to lie.
Bill Reddish, being a member of the media asked the question and knew if he asked Debbie Campbell or Terry Cohen he would get a straight answer. Debbie happened to be his guest that morning. She answered the question. How is asking and answering a question that is not confidential or privileged information considered a leak? To continue to say the information was leaked puts Debbie Campbell in a bad light. STOP IT! Nothing was leaked. A question was asked and answered.
Debbie and Terry also had this information on their jointly owned blog to which Terry Cohen said she posted the info. It's not like they haven't posted information on their blog in the past the city didn't want posted.
11:21, well said! The FACT is the information was not confidential, council members were never TOLD it was confidential, it wasn't MARKED confidential, and it WASN'T confidential.
Our Mayor, the dishonorable Barrie Tilghman, is notorious for blaming everyone but herself when things blow up in her face. She's even more notorious in her hatred for Campbell. Obviously this farce of a press conference she had when PooGate hit the fan was used her by her to simultaneously try to lie to us while smearing Campbell's name as a whistle blower.
NEWS FLASH MAYOR: As with everything else you've touched, it failed. We ain't buying this pack of lies. We know- and you know- Campbell did nothing illegal, unethical, or even questionable. The pressure's on, Tilghman, and it's just where it should be: You and your puppet, Mr. Comegys.
Tilghman, you know as well as everyone on this blog knows that Campbell will still be serving Salisbury long after you and Comegys are history. You know, HISTORY ....like Watergate.
