Prediction

I'd count on the Daily Times completely ragging on Jim Ireton tomorrow. They're scared to death that he might get elected so they're probably going to do everything they can to bash him to no end on their busiest day of the week. Let's see what happens. Keep your chin up Jim, not many read that rag any more. More importantly, no one trusts them any more either.

That will be interesting to see, since typically, Monday's paper contains mostly leftover drivel from the weekend fluff stories with just a couple new items, since nobody usually works weekends there.

Well lets see if the volume of the Daily Disappointment can influence enough city voters to make a difference.

If it were not for the multiple pages of car ads from Sherwood the "DD" would already be bankrupt.

Lets hope for the good of the City that enough voters see through the
lack of intellect of the "DD" and its staff.

The "Bassett Man" and his shallow editorial staff are on their last legs.

I guess a new press cannot fix stupid.

Sounds familiar.

I cant believe people actually pay .75 for a paper so worthless!

Joe,
I had a chance to drive around the city today and look around. It has been a while and wanted to see the condition of some of the neighborhoods that I have not been in a while. The Bubba signs I saw were mainly in front of rentals. I'm not guessing on this, I know for 100% the houses are rentals. It is ashame that Comegy's can't find people that own property to support him.
I also want to put a caution out to everyone. Cast one vote on Tuesday, because if everyone votes for a second, it may put that second ahead of the first. So vote who you want and if you think they do not have a chance then vote a second.
This city needs to turn its direction soon or we will be past the point of no return. We are so close to it now.

I was thinking the same earlier today. I wonder what kind of inflamatory article the paper will come out with tomorrow about Ireton. Of course they may wait until the Sunday before the general election.

The Daily Slime is a politically one-sided propaganda pot for Fatboy Fireboat Bubba and der Barrie (Heil Barrie).

It's a freakin' shame that Salisbury can't have a paper that delivers political coverage in a non partisan manner. Its staff doesn't care about the fact that their political views are not news.

I've been trying since Fatboy announced his candidacy to get a single factual (negative) comment about him published in the Grapevine. Hasn't happened. Ain't gonna happen. I've noted at least two negative comments against Mrs. Campbell published in the Grapevine since she announced her candidacy, and have tried unsuccessfully to publish an opposing view in letters the editor as well as Grapevine. Hasn't happened. Ain't gonna happen.

May this rag soon end up down the toilet bowl of bankruptcy. It isn't even worth the trouble to flush.

Joe you get at best how many hits a day, what is thier distribution? I dont read the SBY Times, but I think your wrong to act as if no-one does.... any comment?

If Gary Tilghman/Barrie Comegys didn't have the daily times they wouldn't have a campaign.

Wouldn't it really be funny if the election goes 100% to the Dirty Dozen and nobody, the mayor or council will give them the time of day. They'll have to figure out a new scheme to fabricate news.

They dug their own grave.

Joe,

I woke up this morning, Sunday morning March 1, 2009 at 6:30 am to my radio alarm clock. On WICO 1320 am I was grossed out by what came on. It was Monday Morning with the Mayor and it was oviously taped because she was talking about tomorrow morning being election day. Guess who she was interviewing for Candidate for Mayor. You got it, Bubba Comagees. It was nothing but a free plug to get her boy bubba in office. It was full of lies and every other word was uh and um. She is setting him up for nothing more than a fluff piece for the election. It is extremely disgusting and a waste of air time. If you turn it on now you may get to hear some of it. He is now blasting the other candidates saying they don't have the insite or experience like he does. You may be able to catch some of it now if you turn it on.

I'm starting to notice a trend here...

It's comforting to see that you and many of your readers have so much respect for people who aren't fortunate enough to own the property in which they live. Maybe we should go back to a simpler time when voting was restricted to property owners. Is that what you guys want?

Well, the paper is out and I think the DT exercised restraint (at least, I haven't seen anything yet). Comegys, of course, has a letter where he attacks Ireton for leaving the city for 7 years. That is such an odd line of attack--do you think that never leaving Salisbury is a pre-requisite for hte job? If so, we better put it in the election laws. I think leaving, getting a master's degree, and then foregoing other high-paying jobs to come back to your home town to engage in the honorable position of teacher ought to be commended, not criticized! Anyway, I hope the newspaper continues to leave the nasty stuff out of the election.

Way to stay neutral during the election... I knew that was a lie!

All publicly traded newspaper company's in the USA lost an average of 83% of their stock value in 2008. All newspaper companies are struggling and this is not simply a local problem indicating mismanagement on the part of the local paper or their parent company.

11:00 News articles, specifically articles on politics, in the Times are written in a non-partisan way. Editorials by their nature, however, are not. An editorial in a newspaper is, be definition, the opinion of the publishers or editors. So if you see anything on the editorial page of a paper or other periodical, it's opinion, not fact.

8:46 - you evidently missed some of the election coverage in 2007. A bunch of lies quoted from Barrie a few days before the election, not investigated by the Times for their veracity (like a real newspaper should do) cost one candidate a bunch of votes. And not having that candidate voted in cost the city and taxpayers millions.
Same s**t, different year.

8:46 A.M. Fine, but I guess you have no problem with the fact that the editors won't publish any opposing views voiced by their readers? I mean, would it really kill the editors to put a few sentences in Grapevine every now and again from someone who doesn't hate Debbie Campbell? Or to publish a letter from someone who wants to mention a positive point about Mrs. Campbell instead of damning her?

Oh silly me.... I forGOT that's not how it's supposed to work. Just ask Joeseph Gobbels. He wouldn't have published any opinions on the editorial page in favor of people like Campbell or Cohen, either.

Once again, Heil Barrie! The Daily Slime is going to go the way of the swastika - as is der Barrie and der Bubba sooner or later.

Who wrote that crappy "voters' guide" today?

They really shafted Tim Chaney. Gave others much more space. Fawned over Polk, which comes off suspicious.

They also used Comegys' professional shot, Caldwell's and Polk's, too. But Ireton got the "under the crappy lights" shot.

No level playing field. Crap like that is what gives Salisbury its hick reputation.
