NAACP TO HOLD 12TH ANNUAL BLACK HERITAGE CELEBRATION
Salisbury …. Wicomico County Branch #7028 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host its 12th Annual Black Heritage Celebration at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the Chipman Cultural Center, 325 Broad St., Salisbury.
In observance of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Dr. Clara L. Small, Salisbury University History Professor, will speak to the theme “NAACP: HONORING OUR PAST, CELEBRATING OUR
LEGACY.”
Voices United, a community choir, under the direction of Dr. Faye Wilson and Linda Mitchell, will sing from a repertoire, including traditional and gospelized spirituals along with contemporary church music. Youth members of Zeal of Zion, the liturgical dance ministry of Mr. Zion United Methodist Church, Quantico, will be featured, dancing to Nicole Smullen’s song “Freedom.”
Among courses taught by Dr. Small, are Racism and Discrimination, Civil Rights in
American Society, Minority Groups, African-American History, U.S. History and Oral History. The author of articles and books, she is currently researching the history of African-Americans on the Eastern Shore and serves on the Governor’s Task Force on Slavery. Dr. Small is the recipient of numerous awards, including the University System of Maryland Regents’ Award for Public Service, The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s Frank H. Morris Humanitarian Award and the Faithful Service Award from Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society for the Social Sciences.

What is the date for the next meeting of the National Association for the Advancement of White People?
I always wondered, if the term "colored" is deemed offensive by blacks, or excuse me "African Americans" (never understood that one either, not all blacks are from Africa) why would the very organization that is supposed to be protecting their civil rights use the term "colored" in their title.
I'm sure this would offend/piss off some people, and be considered un-pc, but what ISN'T true in it?

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Hispanic History Month.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Asian History Month.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.
You have Yom Hashoah.
You have Kawanza.
You have the NAACP.
And you have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television)
...We'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day
...You would call us racists.
If we had White History Month
...We'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships

There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US, yet if there were "White-only Colleges"
...THAT would be a racist college.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?
Every NAACP member screams racism, well tell me something, why did it take one day to get 2 million blacks into D.C, and it was freezing outside, but they couldn't get out 200,000 of New Orleans with four days notice and it was sunny and warm outside?
That's been there name for 100 years. Just 60 years ago there were still places that had signs, "White's Only" and water foruntains for "Whites" and one for "Colored." Why change the name? It's a reminder.
They are not bad people, they know of their problems with fatherless homes and babies having babies. They know it's not white people murdering them it's a black on black problem. Get over the color isssue.
You might say the National Association of White people is the NRA. The ACLU and many other groups do cross the lines of color. Their are many Jewish people that are NAACP members.
We should look at it as groups that we need to make contact, and come together to make for a better world.

there were not 2 million "Blacks".
there was no storm surge in dc. there are no levees broken there. there are more than a couple of routes into DC.
DC's weather was not prohibitive.
there were no floods during the inauguration.
try posting a valid argument.

Have times really changed?
If there were things back then for whites only or white/black specific things such as a water fountain, what in the hell is different today when you have,
"For blacks only though"
NAACP for blacks
college funds for blacks
beauty pageants for blacks
prisons with mostly blacks and that our faught too! huh?
etc....

The NAACP is not limited to assisting blacks only. They offer assistance to all people of color. I know, I've spoken with them with concerns of a small group of american indian people. The Baltimore office was more than happy to help us.

I am White. Do I get assistance from the NAACP? Or is reserved for People of Color? How bad of a sunburn do I need to get their help too???
Anon 10:39 I am half white and they helped us. We went to Baltimore because no one at the local office would ever answer the phone or return a call. The best thing I can tell you is, call and ask them, the worse they can say is no. We did, and they helped us get our issue resolved.

If its not just for black people then why does it say," NAACP TO HOLD 12TH ANNUAL BLACK HERITAGE CELEBRATION" It doesnt say Indian celebration, human celebration, no, black celebration. Even if it didnt specifically say Black i still wouldnt go, just wanted to point that out.

just so you know....8:31, 8:43 and 10:39 are one in the same...and I have a distinct feeling I know who a few of the supporters are. YOU KNOW WHO I AM. the shame of it is, i must hide behind the alias of anonymous due to all the racial backlash for speaking my opinion. racism unfortunately is alive and well in America and travels along a 2-way street. whenever someone brings up racism to me I tell them a story.
"If I asked you to deliver a package to my back porch and inside my fence and there was a little cocker spaniel there on the deck, 9 times out of ten there would be a package there when I returned home.
Now, same scenario, except there is a 200lb rottweiler. In this case the package would be on the outside of the fence or thrown across the fence with the contents broken. Now, considering you have never been bitten by either breed of dog, does this make you prejudice? Most definitely. A racist? Not hardly. You're just practicing self preservation.
I always thought the term "colored" was kind of vulgar,becaue of its past.
I say let them have a huge gathering..with all of them in one place, crime rate will go down for that day.
