Homeless In Somerset County

The cold rain falls upon me as I’m laying here in this field under a tree the only shelter I have found since been here. I shiver a tad and wonder how my life has turned out to be this way. I spend my days wandering up and down this stretch of road in search of a bite to eat. I greet the cars as they pass by and even occasionally chase one or two. Some people I guess are amazed that I can still run given I’m missing a leg. Occasionally the people in the white truck stop by to chase me. I know they want to hurt me so I run far away from them.

Do they really think I would come to them when they are yelling and chasing me with some type of gun?

I’m not here to hurt or bother anyone, I just want to live free and enjoy my days doing what I love. Some people must care about me because they bring me food and treats and try talking nice to me, but still I’m afraid so I run away. I wonder if there is any chance that someone that would care for me and love me could rescue me? I don’t want to go with the people in the white truck because I know they will kill me. Please people of Somerset County please don’t allow this to happen to me.

Sincerely,

Lucky? A.K.A

The stray three legged dog living on Rt.667

I first noticed this dog on Christmas Eve lying on the side of the ditch. After I went by it on the way to Pocomoke and then back, I turned around to check it out. After all it was Christmas Eve and I figured if something were wrong, I would take it home to try to see what the problem was. The dog got up and moved away, despite a lot of coaching on my part. It was then that I noticed that it was missing a back leg. I went over to where it was lying to see if there was any blood or signs that it was a fresh injury, I saw none. Since, I could not get the dog to let me take him home, I left some dog food and left feeling very sad, that the dog was out in the cold on Christmas. Because of the history my family has with James Henderson at Animal Control (because of his abuse of my son at the Detention Center), I decided not to call 911 for fear that the animal would be killed. I could not get this dog off of my mind. The day after Christmas, he was out again, and I again left some food. One day, I came thru as both Animal Control trucks were at the scene, and I felt very sad. The next day, my sadness turned to joy as I saw the dog was still there. He will chase along side the road, but I have never seen him chase out onto the road. I quite frequently, stop and throw out Arby's roast beef sandwiches or other food for him. On days that I go by and he is not out by the road, I wonder if he is okay. Some days, he is tired and will just raise his head to look at the cars as they go by. I have told several people about the dog and now several people are watching out for him. Deborah Cullen

I can't help but smile when I ride by and see Ole Lucky out there. I have seen animal control out there a few times attempting to catch him, but for a critter that only has three legs he sure is a fast one. I wish the best for him, makes you wonder though how did he end up on RT 667? Where did he come from? Was he dumped? Come on someone would remember if thier neighbor had a three legged dog? Makes me just wonder the history?

This dog will be considered unadoptable and put to death upon capture by the dog control of Somerset County, they have no heart, just like there leader.

There used to be a 3 legged dog that lived on Rt 50 near Hebron. Don't know if this is the same dog but it could be. People would leave food on Rt 50 for years and this dog survived just fine. It was smart and didn't hurt anything or anybody. This dog should be left alone. If there are enough good people that leave it food, the dog should be OK. Nothing would be as bad as animal control killing it. If they can't catch it, they will probably shoot it.

Hmmm. this post begs of a fishing expedition to bash Henderson again. I guess there were no other posts bashing Somerset County so the OP (pobably Mrs. Cullen) tried to get something started.

Anonymous said...

What the heck is an OP. If I'm correct, Joe posted this article. As far as Henderson, one does not need a fishing expedition to bash him. He deserves whatever bashing he gets. He should be in jail, he would get the bashing he deserves there. That could still come to pass.

Anonymous said...

One can only HOPE!! And remember when you get there, Henderson. . .don't drop the soap.

Anonymous said...

Nope, it wasn't me. I just read the post and responded to it. At least I have the courage to sign my name. By the way, the others weren't from me either, so there must be other "Henderson bashers" out there. As a side note, Lucky? had double cheeseburgers from McDonalds today. Debby Cullen

mrs. cullen you have got some nerve to talk bad about mr henderson and animal control. Did you forget what your son did to his grandmothers dog? hold it hostage with a sharp object saying he was going to kill it if he did not get money for drugs. You should really mind your own bussiness and get a life.

Just for everyones information! the plan for the dog on 667 is to place him in a safe enviorment. This dog is going to cause an accident, I am a mother of two who travels this road every day an he is contantly chasing my car. Someone is going to run there car off the road and get hurt. these people at animal control are just doing their job so please let them do it. If it takes a tranqulizer gun to do it then so be it! This is about keeping the community safe!

Mr. Henderson, YOU really need to get your facts straight. My son's last grandmother died in 1999 and was in the nursing home 4 years before that, and by the way didn't even have a dog. It was MY dog, he didn't have a sharp object, just threatened the dog to get a rise out of me. If you researched a little further you would also find that I pressed charges on him for this incident. I am truthful about what he did and I am also truthful in any remark that I have made about YOU. It is not a question of talking bad about you and I certainly don't feel that I have talked bad about Animal Control. I am not in the habit of maligning people, especially without due cause. Unless I have missed the boat somewhere, my son is my business, so any criminal activity that has been levied against him, is my business. I don't condone his actions and certainly don't condone yours. I believe in equality and also in the old saying, "what goes around, comes around." My son has answered to his misdeeds, and paid his dues, the time needs to come when others answer to theirs. By the way, I do have a life. DC

8:11 pm obviously you do not have a life or you wouldn't waste your time trying to bash someone on this blog. If you want to know the truth about the dog on 667 known as TRIPOD to many why don't you call animal control yourself and get th real story on how this dog ended up there (i did). From my undrstanding they did an investigation on this dog to find its origin and i agree that eventually this animal is going to cause an accident and injure someone and itself. So wouldn't it make sense for animal control to bring this dog in? Isn't that what their job is? Unless you want to get your big butt out there and do something mind your own business and keep your personal vendettas outta here. THe big picture here is animal control needs to get that dog outta there and its because of people like you feeding him that makes their job more difficult. So my advice to you and everyone else who feels the need to feed tripod, DON'T!!!! If you want to feed a needy animal make a donation to your local shelter, take a dog there for a walk and have a talk with the staff I'm sure you'll find they are not the heartless people MS. CULLEN makes them out to be. SHELLY

Anonymous said...

"Shelley"??? Henderson .In no way have I ever implied that the individuals at Animal Control are heartless, in fact have never implied anything in regards to Animal Control other than issues with Henderson. I have adopted from there in the past, in fact took three puppies that were about to be put to sleep about 7-8 years ago. I will leave the walking of those animals to the "experts" there who get paid to do that. An agency is only as good as the person who is in charge, my experience with Henderson leaves me to fear for these animals. His past will always come out and haunt him. This has nothing to do with personal vendettas, this is about doing the right thing and expressing my God given right of freedom of speech. What is the almighty rush to take this dog down, now. He has been there since before Christmas and probably won't cause as many accidents as those who are driving around in county vehicles while reeking of alcohol. How many more aliases do you have? Maybe (you)Henderson can use a lasso. He must think that he is good with a rope. He threatened to hang my son, after he beat him. Maybe this is why I don't think that he should hold any county job. DC for your information my name is Shelly and I have been a crisfield resident for 20 years. For your information Animal COntrol does welcome volunteers to aid in the placing of their animals whether in forever homes or foster care. I do go to animal control and walk dogs and i do help them with foster care for animals who have special needs. I find that the staff there has been more gracious and appreciative of any type of help that they get from the community. Including Mr. Henderson!!! As for you impling i am not who i say i am come on down neck and lets have a talk!!!! Shelly W.

Anonymous said...

Shelley, I have no beef with you. Would the Shelly be short for the Michelle that works at animal control. It shouldn't be hard to find down the neck for me since I grew up down there. As I said, I also have no beef with Animal Control, just one individual who works there. If you don't think that I have cause not to be a Henderson supporter, maybe you would like to read 100's of pages of reports from the MSP and WBI on Henderson. Then maybe you would be watching your back also. You are the one who is attacking me telling me to get a life and referencing my big butt, and I have not attacked you back. You will be better served to continue your work at the Animal Control and not to champion Henderson, he only looks out for Number 1. You have totally missed the point on my posts. DC

It has been stated before that James L. Henderson will always be a lightning rod for Somerset County because of his past actions and despicable reputation. This is why he should not be employed in any capacity by Somerset County. Even when he is right, his judgement will always be called into question and challenged. I pray that the county does not let him carry a weapon, not even a tranquilizer gun.

Anonymous said...

Is Jim Henderson really doing a good job. It seems from these posts that he has not been able to catch a three legged dog for six months. How long does it take him to catch a four legged one? At least he can't post any more trash on this site during the day since the county had to block the site to all employees just to keep him off.

Anonymous said...

6:48 PM - Somehow I don't feel threatened by a 3 legged dog. If I'm traveling that road I'd probably more likely get hit by a drunk sheriff or cop then I would getting hurt by any wild animal.

Anonymous said...

lets see you try to catch the three legged dog. If you are so concerned why dont you try. knowitall. If mr henderson does tranquilze tis dog just maybe he will miss and hit you in the rump.

Anonymous said...

lets leave the sheriff out of this story.

Anonymous said...

This three legged dog was born on a local farm he was ran over by a tractor and his leg was cut off by a disc, that is what happened to his leg. he has always been wild and never anyones pet. I know for a fact that animal control will rescue this dog because I am the person who will be fostering him and I have done this for them before. So leave this people alone and let them do their job so i can get this dog treated for his infected leg before the infection kills him. Rescuer for Life

anonymous 5:30, I don't buy what you're saying for one single second. IF you were for real you would have put up your name.

DC @ 1237 For your information my god given name is not Michelle it IS SHELLY and i am a stay at home mom of two beautiful children. So YOU need to get YOUR facts staraight. Since your son seems to have so many problems with addictions why dont you worry about your own family and leave everyone elses alone including TRIPOD. Your son may decide to hold him hostage for something!!! SHELLY W.

I am leaving my name out of this because I don't want to be harrased by any of this crazey people on this site. But anyone who knows who knows me knows I AM TRUE to what I do. Sorry Joe. I am a local from Somerset County.

joe albero said...

I can respect that.

Anonymous said...

Thank you. What I said is true i have done this before go talk to the man on river road, his wild dog is know tame, spayed and walks on a leash.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe 5:30. How on earth would they know if the dog had an infected leg if they can't even get close enough to it to catch. It's obviously an older dog and it's leg was obvoiosly cut off long ago, so why an infection now. I just don't believe this person.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't sound like anyone has a problem with animal control catching and caring for this dog. The real problem seems to me to be that many distrust James Henderson because of his past problems. If someone other than Henderson were in charge of animal control, I don't believe we would even have an issue here. Henderson would have probably been better placed as landfill caretaker.

Anonymous said...

cullen, if you dont think you have said anything bad about animal control then why be sad knowing they are trying to catch the dog, you dont make sense. They just want to help the dog.

Anonymous said...

not everyone that works there has the henderson name.

Anonymous said...

As an outsider I would like to know exactly what the policy is at the animal control. Why not post it on the county web site, certainly should be public information. Does Somerset even have a policy? In most areas where I have lived animal control only keeps a dog for a few days and if it's owner doesn't claim it, then it is put down. I suspect the same is true here. The tax payers cannot keep all these stray dogs forever and certainly there are not enough homes for them. Be realistic. This particular dog will most likely be put down within a short time if caught. It would appear that the person in charge of animal control is not the right person to hold this position. Where is the leadership in this county?

Anonymous said...

6:56 What makes me sad is that the dog now has freedom to do what he likes and is not subject to man. When captured, he will no longer be the free spirit that he is today. If that doesn't make sense to you, then have someone lock you up and see how you like it. Just look throughout history for all of the examples of this from the Indians to the slaves. The posting about an infected leg is garbage. I have been as close to that dog as anyone. I am a nurse. There is no sign of infection with that dog, so stick with the truth. Again Shelly W get your facts straight. Hopefully, you won't have to worry about your two children with drugs, but I would be careful about throwing it up in someone's face, least it comes back to bite you when you least expect it. It's also funny that I have talked with several down-neckers today and no-one seems to know of a Shelly W. dc

Anonymous said...

You might be a nurse but your not a vet tech! I am!

Anonymous said...

7:55 What does that prove. One thing for sure is that you sure haven't examined this dog, so I will stick by my assessment skills. Anyone noticing that there are no comments during the day today. I'm sure that there will be more attacks tonight, but since I do have a life, I will be at the Maryland/Duke basketball game in College Park, so I won't be a part of it like I wasn't last night, either. Joe, I agree with your earlier post. dc

Anonymous said...

342 pm instead of spendin your money on basketball tickets and gas why not make a donation towards tripods veterinary bill once he is captured by animal control. as you know even though you see him as a "free spirit" others see him as a nuisance. A friend of mine almost had an accident today because of your "free spirit". All you people seem to want to do is run your lip why not join forces and try to help this poor animal get the care and the home he deserves. I do ageree with 628 pm that if dc didn't have a problem with henderson this would not even be an issue. As for this man deserving his job,,apparently someone thought so, or he wouldnt be there.

Anonymous said...

Someone thought Henderson should be there, and someone made a gigantic mistake 7PM. That someone would be our incompetant commissioners. They hired the man while he was under investigation for abusing inmates at the detention center in case you did not know. You may trust him with your dogs, but frankly I would not. I stick by my original statement in that, if he is on the payroll at all, he should be at the landfill.

Anonymous said...

FYI, the four tickets were given to me as well as a parking pass. Since the four of us went it cost next to nothing. I posted that because you told me to get a life and I just wanted to show you that I have good friends and I do have a life. I don't believe that someone had a near accident today because of Lucky. Ever since you started using personal vehicles and try to shoot him out the car window, he is now staying back off of the road. Seems like one smart dog to me. As I have said before, why don't you stick with the truth and put your multiple personalities aside.

Anonymous said...

4:41 You question Henderson's lenght of time to capture 3 and 4 legged dogs. From what I hear it doesn't take him near as long to go after 2 legged does.....oops I mean dogs.

Anonymous said...

apparently he is not staying out of the road i was coming from pocomoke last night and he was in the road almost to the yellow line

Anonymous said...

well 251 am first off i do not shoot anything from my vehicle second belive what you want moron that dog is not stayin off the road and somebody is gonna run him over eventually then his name is gonna be road kill so if you think you can do a better job capturing him lets see you try, that means get up off the computer and go out there and get him. if your not going to do anythig but try to discredit and discourage other poeple then maybe you need to take a look at your life and figure out why you are so miserable. i was always told misery loves company.

Anonymous said...

8:10 YOU are pathetic.

Anonymous said...

11:41, I'd like to know more about the 2 legged doe! And 3:47, you say he was in the road almost to the yellow line. Who you talking about, Henderson? 8:10, you might as well call the dog road kill as pound kill, dead is dead no matter who kills it.

Anonymous said...

To 8:51 You made a point to say that you didn't shoot from your vehicle, but there are others there with vehicles. After all you have a "white truck" so of course the dog wouldn't get close to you. Apparently, it was the joke with most of the county workers, that this endeavor also failed.

Anonymous said...

I find this post most interesting. It's more evidence that the commissioners made the wrong choice in hiring Henderson for this job. I would say that not another animal control unit in america would take 6 months to catch a three legged dog. This is really a joke and I find it hard not to laugh.

Anonymous said...

7:00 Just because you have a county job, certainly doesn't mean that you should. I am sure that the Commisioners have developed more than one grey hair because of this after the "Henderson story" came out. What other county would rehire any individual after they have had to plea out of 2 jobs to avoid prosecution? If they feel threatened in the next election, then maybe you won't have your county job, after all. I hope that they have wised up by now.

Anonymous said...

8:10 leads one to believe that they are dog control. If misery likes company, maybe that is why Henderson has had only two jobs in his life, one in jails and the other in dog pounds. Plenty of misery in both places.
