OK Worcester & Wicomico County BOE, Let's Get Real!

Obviously the Obama Inauguration topic is a hot one, especially when it comes to strong arming children and telling them to dress up in red, white and blue and or wear your Sunday's Best. Some of the wet pants liberals think, awe, isn't that sweet, we should respect the President of the United States. IMHO, no, it's more like, brain wash these kids when they're young and very impressionable.

Nevertheless, we ALL have our views on this issue. However, here's what I want EVERYONE to look at that day. Will we see EVERY adult standing there in their Sunday's Best? Will we instead see everyone wearing red, white and blue?

The minute I see ONE adult not dressed properly, according to the new BOE Presidential Bi Racial Standards I'm not going to be a happy camper and neither should you. Like other commenters have stated, when you become an adult in the real world you must wear what your Boss tells you to wear. Sounds like Teachers are the Boss of Children, eh? I can pictures the kid on South Park standing there saying, RESPECT MY AUTHORITY! Nevertheless, let's see who's for real and who's full of it the moment you turn that television on because I say this is loaded with a majority of DEMOCRATIC Teachers taking advantage of their environment with very impressionable minds.

I think I will keep my daughter home that day, because who knows what else will be talked about.I would have no problem with this had they done it before. But they are turning Obama into a God.Some are even calling him the Messiah!I just don't have a good feeling about it. If I was a black woman, yes, i too would feel very good about him being elected.Sure, we have come a long way in electing a bi-racial president. But let's not turn him into a God.

the problem you have joe is that you are always are going to considered an outsider, first is that you live in DE but come here to complain, second you stick your nose into things that are none of your business. Instead of being part of the solution, your always part of the problem. You could make such a difference if you would channel all your efforts in helping, instead you rather stir up the problem with half-truths.

So what is more important, forcing our children to watch this domestic terrorist muslim inaugarated or educating our children.

Todays Daily Rag has a story on how bad the County school system has become in educating our children. What are the priorities. They are wrong and the Wicomico County Board of education needs to be held responsible.

"Graduation test retake slated after most failed"
"83 percent of Class of '09 still need to meet requirement"

"Currently, Wicomico County has the largest number of seniors, between 100-140 students, that still need to fulfill the HSA obligation to receive their diploma. Through options including remediation, after-school tutoring and Bridge Plan projects, Worcester County's 45 students and Somerset County's 23 students are also working toward meeting the requirement."

Remediation and after school tutoring? It is way to late for that. What are they going to do teach the students the test?

In my professional opinion it is very obvious that our school system has failed our children. Tom Fields is worried about a lawsuit, WTF? Fields should be the first one from the BOE FIRED!!

I think I'm going to be a classroom visitor on this day. The minute I see anything that I deem inappropriate I will be taking my child from that classroom and that school. From there, hell will ensue. This sounds more like an indoctrination in the hitler youth camps than a civics lesson.

Don't blame all the teachers, there are many that are upset with the promotion of this inaguration, when other inagurations received no mention. This came down from the Director of Elementary Education to the Vice Principals at a meeting in Wicomico. Lessons are to be taught and everyone will watch the inaguration, with people from the BOE coming into the schools to see what is being taught that day (this rarely happens otherwise). It is being pushed down from above onto the teachers below.

Is anyone teaching a great American hero by the name of Robert E. Lee?

My child does very well in school. I think I will let her miss this day.It won't affect her grades. I just dont have a good feeling about all of this. They are going overboard for Obama. Its kind of creepy.... :O and P.S. just because you live in Pittsville doesn't make you a "redneck" i know living 10 miles down the road in Salisbury "big city" must make you so different....please

Why was this not pushed down from the top for the last inaguaration. Is it that we have a black president being elected and a black Director of the elementary schools. I really think this is a race thing, not a Patriotic deed.

You are right, but you are an advocate for my child who doesn't know any better and you just sit back and post anonymously on a blog with out speaking up for the children.

I have the right to keep my child home. Maybe we'll even watch snippets of the inauguration at home. Civics isn't taught in elementary school. Current events has a place -- in high schools. I see the "historic" value, but I don't see the value as a black or white thing (by the way, people, he's both. not black. not white.) We're a very patriotic, military family and while we'll honor Obama as our president (because we have to, not because we voted for him - we didn't), he'll not be any different than the presidents before him to us. I hate that the schools point race out to my kids. I don't teach them to look at color. Everyone needs to stop putting him on a pedistal because he's (partially) "African-American". I can only imagine the "lessons" the teachers will be teaching on this.

I am a teacher and have been one for 21 years.

I am a registered Republican.

I would have a SERIOUS problem with an administration that told me to dress a certain way for this inauguration, when nothing has ever been done to commemorate one in the years I have been teaching!

Please do not lump all teachers in one group - some of us are capable of independent thoughts! :)

Remember when Obama told voters to take off work on election day and just go vote, for him of course?

Well if the 'messiah' can do that why don't we just follow his lead and promote a stay at home day for the kids in Wicomico & Worcester on the 20th?

Want to bet they hand out flags for the kids in school? That's going to be hilarios when he won't even put his hand on his chest for the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

EVERYONE please remember, it's great to see everyone's opinions here but take the next step and call your child's principal & the BOE as I have done. Trust me, you won't get any definitive answers but we must show solidarity in this. You're upset so make sure they know it!!

Anonymous said...

I think we should send notes to school with our children next week asking to excuse their absence for Monday 20th. Can anyone think of anything to put in the note to get our point across?

You go Sondra, I would never have guessed you were a Republican. I am a Republican and I attended your fathers funeral. Although we were different parties and different views I had a lot of respect for him. RIP

I am a high school senior and I find this rediculous. We waste taxpayers money for kids like me to go to school, and for what, watch the inauguration during precious and valuable time to do class work? What the heck? I'm ashamed to see this happen.

Anonymous said...

Wow. You all are pretty lame! There is no administration telling people how to dress!

You got a school that is asking to wear something (even the colors of the the american flag) for the historical day... because IT IS historical!!!

Joe just keeps picking at the subject, in typical Joe fashion.

Also, the parents that keep their children at home are doing an even worse job! Those kids (because I am sure the parents can't keep their mouths closed while the children are around) will learn more negative things than positive on election day. Bet on that!

Anonymous said...

"no, it's more like, brain wash these kids when they're young and very impressionable"

hmmmmmmmmm. No, I would take my chances that people like Joe and the other rasict parents will be MUCH more impressionable on the young kids. Bet on that!

All I can say is, high school teachers in Wicomico have NOT been given this as a requirement.

anonymous 3:12,

Don't go picking at me simply because this is one of the hottest topics on the Internet right now and you're a Democrat who can't wait to throw on tights and dance in the streets. Not all of us agree with Obama and if my child was in school and came home with a letter, I'd be in their case so fast they wouldn't know what hit them.

By the way, you Idiot. Go back to the original Post showing the letter from the BOE TELLING parents to send their children to School in the Sunday Best or red, white and blue colors.

By the way, the Joe fashion seems to be working and that's what's killing you inside. Oh, you might want to look around the Blog some more and see there are many additional articles on here, not just this one.

Hey Joe, can you put up a poll to see what parents are going to do. It would be interesting to see. I can teach my 2nd grader about this process with her not having to watch the "messiah" come take his throne.lol

I will teach my child at home of the real King and explain elections and inaugurations to them minus the "worship service" :)

First of all BOZO, he wasn't elected by the majority. It was only a small percentage of citizens that voted was the problem. The election was rigged by special interest criminal groups sanctioned by the Democrat Party like ACORN. People with criminal backgrounds and illiterate mentalities came out of the woodwork so this messiah could pay their rent and put gas in their stolen cars for them.

You have no clue and I hope you are one of the first ones to be bit in the a$$ by this mistake.

Someone please explain to me how this is an historical event.

If an American Indian were elected as president THAT would be historical.

Almost all of my teacher's that had any influence on any political views I might adopt were either independents or very Republican. As I look back on it, in all of my government/history classes, none were Democrats. One was more Republican than Reagan himself. The other was an independent who was social liberal/fiscal conservative and the final one said he voted opposite every election, switching when he felt one party gained too much power.

Patriotic colors is OK but formal dress?Thats torture for elementary age kids.
While I agree with the majority of you on this issue,I think its a bit irresponsibile to let your kid be truant from school because you disagree with the curriculum. As adults we cannot skip work everytime we have a beef with someone or something on the job...same principle.Go to the school board and protest, but dont keep your kids home.
And forgive me,but some of the comments on the other BOE posts actually frighten me because it is scary to think some of these wackos, white and black both ,are able to reproduce and raise kids.

I am a BOE teacher and I did NOT get a directive about the inauguration day activities/speech of Pres. elect Obama. Those teachers in our school that teach Social Studies can watch it or tape it to use in conjunction with developed lessons, but there has been no directive of dressing a certain way or school-wide broadcast. I'd like to know what "letter" was sent home to parents and if this was a particular school that sent it. As for county wide, I think not. I am for freedom of speech, but doesn't the responsibility of reporting the facts mean anything? We all need to verify information before buying into the notion of the witch hunt.

Well, well, well isn't it so nice that you're appointed to come on here and brown nose for your bosses at the BOE by telling outright lies! If you had done some research you would have seen the letter sent to a Worcester County student stating just the things you are saying aren't true as well as posts from other parents who have been told the same thing! I have called the principal at my child's school in Wicomico and the BOE and know for a fact it's true!

To the teachers who have commented honestly on here about your feelings on the BOE directives either positively or negatively, thank you. To you, 7:57, please give your name so I never have to worry about you teaching my child the lies you spread.

Anonymous said...

For the last stinkin' time...

The letter says, "We ASK" and "We ENCOURAGE." The kids are not being ORDERED to dress this way. They are not being threatened with having their recess taken away or their grade reduced.

You people need to get a grip, especially those touting the already debunked rumors of "Muslim" and "terrorist."

My children enjoy all the special "dress up" days at school, from Hawaiian Day to Goofy Hat Day. They were excited by this election. Their classmates were excited, on BOTH sides!

If it hasn't been done before, BIG DEAL! What's wrong with something new? They didn't have Goofy Hat Day when I went to school. Oh, no! They are trying to FORCE my kid to wear GOOFY HATS! (All the teachers I saw did, btw.)

Create controversy and turmoil where there is no story. Reminds me of the Daily Times. Sorry to see this blog turning into this. And sorry to see people turning into this.

This has less to do with how I feel about the election and the president-elect than it does with the totally ridiculous overreaction and venom being spewed at others for the schools simply trying to find fun ways to get the kids interested in the world around them.

I seriously feel sorry for you people. Why are you so hateful and bitter?

joe albero said...

anonymous 8:36,

I don't think people are being bitter and hateful. Some people simply disagree.

If a superior ASKS or ENCOURAGES you to do something, especially a child, wouldn't you follow those suggestions?

Like a TEACHER said in a comment today, IF his students don't do it, it WILL reflect on their grade. So PLEASE look at ALL of the comments on ALL of the Posts we reference on this matter and see it for what it really is. I will have an additional Post up tomorrow referencing some of these comments from a variety of Posts showing you there's more here than many want to admit.

My answer to your statement, "If it hasn't been done before, BIG DEAL! What's wrong with something new?" I'll tell you how "I" feel about that. Why didn't they do so on Veterans Day then? IF it wasn't for our Veterans we wouldn't have a President of the United States. Quit making up lame excuses for your introduction to what many are calling the Messiah. The BOE needs to retract their suggestion, encouragement or whatever else they want to call it as I feel a possible Class Acxtion Lawsuit could follow by a multitude of Parents and they'll win by intimidation alone.

On the Willards calendar it says "Inauguration Day Activities Dress in Red,White, and Blue!" I think just dressing in the colors would be okay, but Im not comfortable with these "activities" He is a man.He will be or president and I respect that, however, that is all he is. People are making over him like he is a GOD! They didn't do this before, but oh no....we must bow to the King...e-q-u-a-l

To 7:57 & 8:36 cause you're obviously the same person.

Seems as though you have alot of hatefulness and bitterness in you! So funny, in your first comment you question if a 'letter' even existed and in the second you're telling us what the letter said. Hard to keep your lies straight, isn't it?

The thing is WE represent our children and the fact they're being coerced into doing things that the BOE has deemed as the proper thing to do based on their agenda. YOU however only represent your employer and your misguided efforts to do as you think they want you to do.

This subject has been on here for several days now but you just happened to notice? Personally I think you just want something to talk to the bosses about tomorrow morning. Lastly, comparing this blog to the Daily Times...what a joke!! Fortunately Joe allows comments by people with differing opinions while the DT only allows comments which follow their liberal agenda. You would think a teacher(?) would notice that.

The promotion of this strongly encouraged viewing of the inauguration and the dress issue came down from the Director of Elementary Education, Mrs. Margo Handy, who is black at a meeting with the Vice Principals in Wicomico County.Lesson plans had to be turned into the principals as to what each teacher would be teaching .The teachers are to have all students view the inauguration ceremony as a directive for the day's history lesson.People from the BOE will be coming into the schools to see what is being taught that day (this rarely happens otherwise). This whole issue is being very strongly encouraged from the Board Central Office by the black supervisors, specialists and Mrs. Handy.Concerned and interested parents need to form an association with an aggressive attorney to protect the children's rights. I find it interesting that the neighbors of the Salisbury Mall took legal action to direct the development of the mall and how it would impact the neighborhood yet the children's welfare is not as important.Parents are often intimidated by school authorities and afraid any action they take will be taken out on their child. I believe the courts and society now will be more favorable to stand behind the parents for the children's welfare.Times have changed. It is also recognized that the schools do not have the best interest of the individual child at heart. Mass scheduling and profiling prevails. A parent with enough exerted pressure and clout can have their child's class schedule changed after they sign a set of documents that relieves the school of responsibility for the student's academic success. This meeting with the principal is also surrounded with an air of intimidation. That crap did not influence our family visit to Bennett Middle. We stood our ground and have the money to have our attorney entertain any unsettled issue.Fight for what is best for your child. As the late superintendent, Royd A Mahaffey, stated,"Your child is your most precious possession."

This is why I homeschool my children. You all have to remember this, the NEW president of the US will now and always will be a topic in your public schools. They brain wash the child, they want them to believe he is GOD and that he is awesome. NO WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK HE WILL DO IN OFFICE. He screwed up his words doing the OATH, HELLO His wife doesn't know what to do, his children thing they are special, Let's SEE IF THIS BLACK MAN CAN RUN THIS COUNTRY. Black or White, we have a HUGH problems in this world and it WILL NOT GET BETTER with a BLACK MAN in office.
